Mistakes

Trying to save Faramir, Pippin shouts, "Gandalf!" and in the first shot from behind Pip, he runs towards Gandalf, the Gondorian soldiers run towards the camera and he is perfectly Hobbit sized. However, in the next shot, facing Pippin, he is not only further away than in the previous shot, when he runs towards the camera as the Gondorians run past him, Pippin is now much taller, about as tall as the soldiers he passes. Trivia

Dominic Monaghan (Merry) said in an interview that he and Billy Boyd (Pippin) were teamed up right from the start and did most of the training (fencing, canoeing, etc) together as well as the acting. Then they were separated for "Return of the King," to make the sadness Merry and Pippin feel when separated more genuine. According to Monaghan, neither he nor Boyd appreciated being separated for the third film, so the trick worked. See more...

Revealing: Legolas sends an arrow directly to Grima atop Orthanc, and as Grima starts to fall back the arrow is quite visibly well below the coat's fur. However, when Grima actually hits the ground, the arrow is now higher up, protruding from the fur. Even Legolas' arrows can't do that!! (Extended Edition.)
