During the scenes where Santos is working on the main engines, he is actually working on a generator. A tug of that size would have a set of much larger engines with reduction gears (transmission), or be hooked up to large electical power plant to provide propulsion. See more...
When Munder goes through the floor we get a shot from beneath seeing him being pulled up. When it cuts he is pulled up again.
