Mistakes

When Frodo and Sam are down below, near the Black Gate, wanting to run in, but Gollum is convincing Frodo not to, Frodo's pants have a couple of holes at the left knee. Later, when Gollum dives for the fish in the rocky stream, Frodo's pants don't have the holes at the left knee, as seen when he's walking with Sam. Frodo did not change his pants, and this is before they have spent the night, which is the scene right after this one. See more...

Trivia

While they were waiting between takes on set, the extras who portrayed the Uruk-hai at Helm's Deep started chanting, singing and tapping their spears on the ground, to the beat of their singing (probably due to the fact that many of the extras were Maori, the native people of New Zealand, and the chanting was a Maori haka). This is how the idea evolved for Peter Jackson to use it in the movie. It developed into the dramatic piece of the chanting and pounding of spears, by the Uruk-hai, at the stand off in Helm's Deep. When the Uruk-hai stop to rest by Fangorn Forest, they drop Merry and Pippin right next to each other, yet Pippin then has to crawl some distance towards Merry so that he can speak to him. [On the Extended DVD, Peter Jackson says that parts of this scene were shot two years apart, and that in fact it was made up of shots for two distinct scenes. Either of these might explain this discontinuity in positioning.]
