Quotes
Gandalf: Confound it all, Samwise Gamgee, have you been eavesdropping?
Sam Gamgee: I ain't been dropping no eaves, sir, honest! I was just cutting the grass under the window there, if you follow me.
Gandalf: A little late for trimming the verge, don't you think?
Sam Gamgee: I heard raised voices.
Gandalf: What did you hear? Speak!
Sam Gamgee: Oh, nothing important. That is, I heard a good deal about a Ring, and a Dark Lord, and something about the end of the world, but please Mr. Gandalf, sir, don't hurt me. Don't turn me into anything... un-natural.
Mistakes
When Gandalf and Elrond are talking about Frodo and his ability to withstand the power of the Ring, when the camera is in wide view you can see Gandalf holding his pipe in his hand with the stem near his chin, when the camera angle changes to a close up view of Gandalf the stem is nowhere to been seen. It happens about 4 times during the entire scene as the camera angle changes. See more...
Trivia
Not a mistake, but a wonderful in-joke. When Boromir is teaching Merry and Pippin to use their swords, you can hear him counting numbers as he delivers the blows to be parried. These numbers - "2, 1, 5" - are in fact the correct numbers for the system of parries used by the Society of American Fight Directors, and many stunt coordinators and fight masters worldwide. Boromir even matches the numbers to the correct locations. The numbering system is supposed to have been based on historic European fencing manuals, but if the folk of Middle-Earth knew it, it must have be a good deal older! See more...
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
Continuity: Just after Gandalf enters Bag End for the first time he looks the map of Middle Earth on the table. In first shot when he is grabbing the map, you can see that there are two scrolls and a flat empty paper stacked on the map. In next shot, there is only one scroll and a paper with some kind of pattern on it.
