Just before the film's completion, Mark Hamill was cast as David Bradford on the TV series "Eight is Enough." Hamill believed the film was going to be a hit, and wanted to focus on his film career. Hamill played David in the series' pilot, and was replaced by Grant Goodeve for the rest of the show's run. See more...
When the heros reach Yavin (the Rebel Base) there is a shot of them getting off a cart. Han's holster is on the wrong leg, and Artoo's small lens is on the wrong side. The film was obviously flipped to keep the visual flow of the scenes.
