Question Question Shocked Question Question

Erm... Somehow Jesus and Gandalf on the same bill together just... well... doesn't work for me.

And if memory serves, James Caviezel is an American. So is the new Prisoner/Number 6 going to be an American spy?

Won't be the same without Portmerion.

I'll second that sentiment.

The Prisoner was darn near perfect the first time around, and you just can't improve on that with any kind of remake. Exclamation

Rover had better still look like a weather balloon. I don't mind if they CGI him and have him doing lots of interesting things, but I want the basic form to look like a weather balloon.

Ah yes, good old Rover... Er, bad old Rover. Anyhow, yes and yes again. Mess with Rover, and you doom your remake to fan purgatory forever. Evil or Very Mad

Not familiar with the Prisoner but can't think of anything Ian McKellan has done that has not left me wanting more. He is one of those actors I would tune in to check out him reading the ingredients from laundry soap

Just caught wind of this and found it sad

Thomas M. Disch, wrote 1967 TV Adaptation of The Prisoner, commits suicide

^I have that book. Disch was a good writer, and it was a shame to lose him that way.

Just saw a bit of AMC's preview of the new PRISONER. Haven't gone back to watch the whole thing off the DVR, but response to the 10 minutes I just caught?

Wow.

This actually looks good! Even with an American #6. And Tail - Rover still looks like Rover. (Yay!) Only he's bigger (much bigger) and considerably meaner. This is a 3-part mini-series, starts Nov. 15th here in the US, and from this preview, I can see that it's considerably darker in tone than the original. They are messing with 6's head big time. The prisoners in this Village are conditioned to believe that there *is* no other world out there. 6, of course, won't buy that, and 2 (Ian McKellan is wonderfully creepy in this part!) is, as always, determined to break him of his "aberrant" beliefs.

Too true that it's not the same without Portmerion. None of the charm of that Village. This one is smack in the middle of an endless desert. Lots of cookie-cutter-cute California-style beach cottages instead. But that just adds to the creepiness of it all, in my book.

Okay... definitely looking forward to seeing what they do with this!

I think JJ Abrams could do it. The Prisoner had a sort of Lost vibe to it. Of course if he's working on The Prisoner, he won't be able to finish destroying continue the Trek franchise.

That actually sounds kinda promising. When does it air?

Not sure when it's airing in the UK. It starts here (on the AMC cable network) Sunday Nov. 15th and runs for 3 nights. Looks like they're remaking several of the original episodes, including "Living in Harmony," which was originally banned in the US because network execs thought, at the height of the Vietnam war, that its pacifist message was too controversial. OK, have now seen the first two episodes. (Two more air tonight and the last two tomorrow.) It's, well, watchable. I like Rover, the endless desert, the homages to the old show and Ian McKellan's creepy #2. But this "Lost"-meets-"The Matrix" re-imagining is dark, grim and lacking all of the quirky charm of Patrick McGoohan's original creation. Worth a look, but doesn't begin to measure up to the first one in my book. As they say, you just can't go home again. Guess you can't go back to the Village again, either.

Hmm, doesn't sound too promising, but might give it a look.
