Poltergeist (1982)

Stupidity: The family ask 3 so-called ghost experts into the house. After seeing flying objects in the kids' room, they are suitably impressed. But later on, the female expert is sleeping, one of the men is in the kitchen wanting to cook a steak, and the second man has his back to the monitors, his head buried in a crossword puzzle and he has headphones on with music on, so he can't see, hear or see what is going on.

Suggested correction: The only one acting stupid in this scene is the guy at the monitors. They have to eat and sleep sometime; if anything, having two people awake and one asleep at a time is the cautious route. The one guy goes into the kitchen to cook a steak, but the guy at the monitors, despite being told he'll be the only one watching them, doesn't put down his drawing or take off his headphones, depriving him of sight and sound.

Salt (2010)

Stupidity: When Salt is handcuffed, there is a long chain between the handcuffs. Why would they let a trained killer wear those handcuffs?

Stupidity: Lecter fires the first bullet to alert the police that something is up, and the lift goes up, then comes down. Now in all this, only 6 or 7 go up the floor where Lecter was. Why aren't police sent in groups to investigate every floor? Lecter could have been anywhere, instead there are about 30 police huddled on the lobby floor.

Blithe Spirit (1945)

Stupidity: After the first session with Madame Arcati, she says good bye, then heads off to the front door, which is all wrong: She left her bike around the back, near the living-room door, the door with which she entered.

Drowning Mona (2000)

Stupidity: Phil and Rona are in their usual cabin for their usual get-together when Phil tries to tell Rona that Mona is dead, but Rona says, "You'll find me floating at the bottom of the Hudson." If you are floating in a body of water, you are on the top, not the bottom.

Blithe Spirit (1945)

Stupidity: When Ruth goes to see Madame Arcati, after Elvira has arrived, the kettle on a gas two-burner hotplate is whistling, so Madame Arcati takes the whistle off the kettle and then the kettle off the hotplate and pours most of the water into a teapot, but, what is stupid is, she puts the kettle back onto the same burner without turning the gas off and in less than a minute the water is boiling its head off but they don't notice because the whistle is on the table and not where it is supposed to be, on the kettle.

House of Wax (1953)

Stupidity: When one of Vincent Price's protege's leaves a wax work-in-progress, he doesn't cover it with a lightly damp cloth, which is very important: wax uncovered will go hard and useless.
