Trivia: A perennial Star Trek extra, the tall blond Eddie Paskey played a red-shirted crewman standing in the background in virtually every Trek episode for all 3 seasons. He rarely had any lines, and was even killed off in "Obsession," but was back on duty anyhow in the following episodes and for the rest of the series.

Continuity mistake: In the briefing room, Hengist and the Prefect are sitting in chairs against the wall at least a foot apart, with bright overhead lighting that casts no shadows on the wall behind them. When we cut to a two-shot of them, however, they're suddenly shoulder-to-shoulder with almost no space between them, and the lighting changes to cast very dark shadows behind them. (00:28:20)

Continuity mistake: Kirk's arrow strikes the Klingon in the knee. But a few shots later, the shaft is protruding from his thigh, several inches above its original position. Still later, he's holding one hand to his calf just below the knee, which isn't where the arrow was either time. (00:43:40)

Continuity mistake: In the opening sequence, the uniformed cop who finds toddler Tommy holding the severed finger bends down and says, "What've you got there, big guy?" In full shot, the cop is bare-handed. But when we cut to a close-up in the middle of his line, he's suddenly wearing a latex glove.

Plot hole: Near the end, a cop comes to tell Schanke that an explosion has been reported at Nick's place. But neither of the two intruders uses any explosives. One shoots his way in through a door and the other breaks in through a skylight. Neither makes enough noise for the disturbance to be called an explosion. (00:41:15)

Plot hole: When the two henchmen who break into Nick's loft to kill Lisa are captured, the case is closed. But the two thugs were reporting back to a boss who wasn't caught, and who surely would have sent more hitmen after Lisa. So the case shouldn't have been closed.

Plot hole: The insertion of a musical sequence used to fill extra time in this episode creates a plot problem. It's spliced in between Nick's urgent plea for Nat to stall the autopsy and his rescuing the bound and gagged Rebecca, and unfortunately makes it appear that in that interval, Nick simply went home, played music and sat in his loft window brooding, ignoring the case altogether. Revealing mistake: The VW Beetle that slides out of the dump truck and rolls over is noticeably not the same car the victim was driving earlier. It's a lighter color, and is already badly dented, even before it's wrecked.

Mr. Monk Gets Stuck in Traffic - S3-E13

Factual error: Monk inspects the wrecked VW Beetle and notes that "the air conditioning is off." But it's a standard 1973 VW: they didn't come with A/C, and though you could add it, it tended to overstress the little air-cooled engine. Look closely and you can see that this VW does not have the bulky under-dash compressor needed to run an add-on A/C.
