Continuity mistake: Mitch picks up a perfectly polished oval stone from Annie's garden. In the next shot as he gets ready to throw it at the crows on the roof, it changes into a jagged rock half the size. (01:31:10)

Continuity mistake: After Melanie saves the little girl in the blue dress from the gull they run past the table with the birthday cake and punch on and almost get to the door. In the next shot they run past the table again. (00:52:55)

Continuity mistake: After finding Annie's dead body on her porch, Mitch finds a stone to throw at the crows up on the roof. As he reaches for the stone there's nothing on his left, but in the next shot a bush with stones around it appears. It disappears again in the next shot. (01:31:10)

Continuity mistake: As Mitch and Melanie walk past the Bodega Bay School we get a good look at the mud caked all over both his shoes. It's there for the whole scene except in the close-up when he picks up the rock, where his shoes are immaculate. (01:29:40)

Continuity mistake: When we first see Annie's dead body we also see the well groomed and raked gravel of her front walkway with not a pebble out of place. One shot later as Mitch runs up to her we see the impressions of his feet appearing in the gravel from a previous take. (01:30:20)

Visible crew/equipment: After a soldier hands Colonel Kilgore the Air-Cav shorts that he gives to Lance, the reflection of several crew members can be seen moving in the middle of the megaphone to the right of the screen. (00:48:40)

Continuity mistake: When he first opens the package from his mom Clean is holding a brown envelope with a cassette tape in it. Three shots later as he reads the letter from his mom and listens to the tape, the package has changed to a white carton. (01:51:05)

Continuity mistake: During dinner Hubert de Marais starts to rattle off all of the places in the world the French have lost wars. In the next shot the wine glass in front of Captain Willard goes from one quarter full to three quarters full between shots. (02:05:30)

Other mistake: Captain Willard reads to himself from Colonel Kurtz' paper titled, "Commitment and Counterinsurgency". We see a close-up of the page that he's reading from which is fine until he reads, "our conduct of the war will gain only impotence". Everything else he reads is not on the page. (01:15:35)

Audio problem: As they approach the Do Lung Bridge Lance tells Chef that he dropped a tub of acid and Chef says, "far out " but if you look at his lips he's not saying anything at all. (01:40:50)

Continuity mistake: As they stand on the French plantation dock we see the front of the boat a lot and the chipped paint from the rocket attack in the previous scene has been repaired. There's also a camouflage shirt under the radar dome that sometimes has a T-shirt next to it and sometimes doesn't. (01:57:25)

Continuity mistake: Dennis Hopper holds his cigarette between the first and second finger of his left hand before he gives the water to Captain Willard in the bamboo cage. In the next shot as he gives him the water the cigarette is between his thumb and first finger. Then in the shot after that it's between his first and second finger again. (02:42:50)

Continuity mistake: When Clean sits down in the back of the boat and opens up the tape from his mom, notice the order of the bullets in the machine gun to the right of the screen. When we first see them they're all packed in order, three shots later as he reads the letter they're uneven though no one has touched them. (01:51:00)

Continuity mistake: Lieutenant Carlsen says, "Get that light off me" as the PBR approaches the shore. Lance, sitting at the front machine gun, starts to move the spotlight before the lieutenant says anything then in the next shot the spotlight is already facing him. (01:41:40)

Continuity mistake: When they approached the French plantation both doors of the demolished building are open. Later as Captain Willard walks through them, the door on the right is closed. (01:55:35)

Other mistake: After we see Chief Phillips break up the fight between Clean, Lance and Chef they show a close-up of the Playboy Bunny's helicopter. It's pouring down but there's no water running off the helicopter or its windows. (01:25:40)

Continuity mistake: During Clean's story about a Vietnamese lieutenant Chef puts up his picture of Miss December behind Chief Phillips and its raining and his hat is wet. In the previous and next shot it's not raining. (01:12:15)

Continuity mistake: Hubert de Marais says to the Captain, "because life, sometimes is very cruel, as you can see" as he hands him a plaque. At first he's holding it with his left hand then when he gives it to him, he's using both hands. (02:03:15)

Visible crew/equipment: After Clean is killed in the rocket attack there are several shots where the camera crew films the front of the PBR as it approaches them. The spray and turbulence from their boat in front of the PBR can be seen in all of these shots. (01:52:20)

Continuity mistake: The Frenchmen with the accordion asks Captain Willard, "Do you know anything about Dien Bien Phu?". If you look closely at the doors in the other room, most of the lower shutters are closed. The next time we see them all as the Frenchman playing the accordion stands behind the captain and says, "Dien Bien Phu, okay" all the shutters are open even though no one goes near them.
