Jumanji (1995)

Question: When Judy was stung by that plant and she collapsed, I never really understood what happened. She collapsed but was she poisoned and killed or just paralyzed? Anybody have the faintest idea? That's the only bit I never understood. I thought she was shot by poisonous darts...

Hamster

Answer: Since the barb was poisonous, she was dying. This is seen when she begins looking pale and a few seconds later she isn't moving. Finishing the game was the only way to save her life.

Chosen answer: She was just temporarily immobilized by the venom - it wears off after a few minutes.

The Doctor

No, it doesn't. Alan said the purple plants shoot poisonous barbs. After being hit, by them, Judy was slowly being poisoned to death.

Jumanji (1995)

Jumanji mistake picture

Continuity mistake: Carl's cop car has the licence plate "G2298" which is printed thinly on the licence plate. Then, when the vine wraps around his car, and bends it in two, the licence plate is now "CFJB95", printed very boldly on the plate. The words "POLICE 004" also differ, as does the bumper and the lights. Totally new car, methinks... (01:14:55)

Firestarter (1984)

Continuity mistake: When Charlie and Andy are both shot on the wooden walkway, the "Raisin Chex" box that Andy drops changes the angle it sits between shots, and between many consecutive shots the cardboard flaps of the box alternate from being up/down. (00:52:35 - 00:53:30)

Jumanji (1995)

Jumanji mistake picture

Continuity mistake: When Sarah, Judy and Peter are in the store, where the riot is going on, they spot the Jumanji Board Game sitting on the till counter. To the right of the till is a very large "Sand and Water Activity Table" box. In one shot the box it facing so you can see the upper part/top of the box. It then cuts, and the box has mysteriously rotated 180°, so that you can now see the lower part/bottom of the box! In the same shots, there is a trolley by the till, with some items and a box in it. Cut back to the trolley and there's now two boxes in it! It then cuts, and the box is back to it's original position, and the box in the trolley disappears! If you look more closely, the entire shelf unit behind the counter is completely different!!! (01:05:55)

Continuity mistake: When Carmen and Juni realise they've gone around in a circle, they run through the room of treasure again. There are some gold pots near the sword which Juni grabs later. In one shot they run past the gold pots, and one pot rolls across the coins. When it cuts to Juni grabbing the sword, the pot is back to it's original place, and the pots and coins as well as the sword differ their position between these shots too. (01:10:15)

Hamster

Yet later, when Madeline takes the two pieces of the card from her bag, they are torn much differently, and aren't torn straight and neatly. (00:19:45 - 00:28:20)

Carrie (1976)

Question: Why does Carrie stand in front of her mirror and use her powers to break it? I just don't understand why she does this. Does she intentionally break the mirror?

Hamster

Chosen answer: She believes that she is ugly and unwanted. So her power subconsciously acts accordingly so she won't have to look at herself.

Spy Kids (2001)

Continuity mistake: In the first shot of Floop's castle, when the camera pans towards Floop, he holds a ball of clay in his right hand. When it cuts, it's in his left hand. (00:12:40)

Question: What year or period is the film (and the books for that matter), set in? Eg. a certain year, or a period, eg. 80's 90's?

Hamster

Chosen answer: Like the books, it's really up to your imagination. Mr. Poe mentions a fax machine, yet all the cars are pre-1970's models. There are car phones, but they are ridiculously old fashioned. Did anyone really ever have reel-to-reel tape players in their cars? The books give the same aura of occurring at no specific time (a blacksmith shop and a computer repair shop on the same street, telegraph machines and advanced computers both existing). It's up to you as a viewer and reader to decide.

Valentine (2001)

Continuity mistake: In the scene when Kate is in the shower, in the opening shot, in her lounge the camera pans past a bookcase and into the bathroom. Kate then hears a noise, gets out the shower, and finds the water is cut off. When she uses the phone, halfway through her call, her iron overheats. The iron and ironing board are right beside the bookcase that the camera panned past in the opening shot. Trouble is, the iron and ironing board weren't by the bookcase in the opening shot.
