The Lovely Bones

Plot hole: So he needed the help of a big strong burly guy to flip the safe with the body, end over end to the pit, but he somehow was able to easily get it out of his basement and into the back of his car by himself?

Continuity mistake: At Susie's locker, when Ray first approaches her, she is startled and closes her locker door almost completely, but not quite. In the next shot, the door is completely shut without her having touched it.

Continuity mistake: In the scene where George and the other man are moving the large safe towards the sinkhole by flipping it repeatedly, it keeps switching between shots of them flipping it and Ruth watching them from the window in the house. The distance of the safe from the hole remains the same in several shots, despite them having gained some ground since the previous shots. In fact in one shot the safe even appears to be *farther* from the hole than in previous shots.

Trivia: When Susie is in the mall bookstore watching Ray, there is an advertisement on the window for "The Lord of the Rings." Director Peter Jackson is best known for directing the film adaptation of this book series.

Trivia: Peter Jackson had originally cast Saoirse Ronan as Susie because he wanted an unknown actress in the role. But in the middle of principal photography, Ronan earned Golden Globe, BAFTA, and Academy Award nominations for her role in Atonement.

Trivia: Peter Jackson, the director, makes a cameo appearance in the film. Just after Susie's death, when her father, Jack, comes out of the photo store with the roll of Susie's film he had developed, Jackson is the customer in the background who is looking at a video camera.

Susie Salmon: My name is Salmon, like the fish. First name, Susie. I was fourteen years old when I was murdered on December 6th,1973. I wasn't gone. I was alive in my own perfect world. But in my heart, I knew it wasn't perfect. My murderer still haunted me. My father had the pieces but he couldn't make them fit. I waited for justice but justice did not come.

Question: If Susie's body had been in a bag in the safe, how did people who went into his house (Lindsey when she broke into his house through the basement window) not smell her dead body?

Answer: The only person who went into the basement while the safe was there was Lindsey. The safe was airtight, so the odor at that point would have been contained inside it.

Answer: The dog could smell her body even from outside, and he barked and hesitated as he passed near the killer's house. Dogs can smell people from a long distance.

Question: In the scene where the detective tells Susie's parents 'they found blood, lots of blood', how can they find blood if Susie's body was placed inside a locker?

Loesjuh1985

Chosen answer: Because he likely killed her in such a way that caused severe bleeding, and was before he moved the body and hid it in the safe.
