The Peacemaker (1997) - 45 mistakes

Continuity: As Nicole walks across a plaza with Clooney to meet the Russian spy, she is wearing sheer stockings and low pumps. As she walks off the plaza she is wearing knee high boots with fur tops.

Factual error: When they download the requested file from the computer you can read i.e. "600 Dantensatze in Databank". Correct is: "600 Datensaetze in der Datenbank". At the same time when the bad guys try to identify Clooney you can read on the screen the German "Gerwicht" for weight. Correct is: Gewicht.

Continuity: When Tom and Julia get out the Mercedes before it explodes, Tom shuts the drivers door after getting out, yet in the following shot it is open.

Continuity: Just before the two trains crash, there are 4 poles along the track and not far apart, then when the camera cuts to a wider shot, there are fewer poles and at a much greater distance from one another.

Continuity: Just after George Clooney's friend has been killed, he roars off in his car, banging the BMWs. A bit of plastic each side of the bumper falls open, nearly coming off. A few shots later the car's driving towards the camera and they're both back in place.

Other: When they have recovered the nukes, after the nukes are set on the bridge George Clooney is rolling on the ground. His gun holster is unfastened and the gun is missing. A few moments later when he is talking to Dr. Kelly on the phone, the gun has reappeared.

Other: In the subtitles, when the Russians are locking onto the US Army helicopters, "Attack" is incorrectly spelt "Atack".

Factual error: Colonel Devoe wheel spins the Mercedes to create sparks to ignite the spilt fuel. This wouldn't be possible as the wheels were Alloys and not steel.

Continuity: When Julia is giving a brief to the people in the room about terrorists and such, Tom interrupts and walks over to the screen. In this shot Julia is raising her hand/hands and pointing at him, yet in the following shot her hands have not moved from her side only her head has moved to the mic.

Continuity: When one of the snipers accidentally shoots a woman in the leg, she falls backwards onto her back, yet on the closeup shot of her she falls to the side of her not on her back.

Continuity: In the fight scene between Tom and Alec in the truck that is hanging over the edge, when Tom is pulled up by the helicopter he cuts the rope and lands on his back. He actually loses his knife which is in his right hand, yet in all following shots its reappeared back in his hand.

Continuity: When Clooney is fighting in the truck on the bridge, he is pulled up by the helicopter. As the camera follows him, you can see him pulled up at least 10 meters. When cutting himself from the cable he falls back into the car. but only about 3 meters.

Continuity: In the first scene that introduces us to George Clooney's character, we see him in front of some sort of Judicial committee. The first scene he wearing gold leaves which indicate the rank of Major, although in the movie he is a Lt. Colonel. Then very next scene when we see Clooney he is wearing the correct rank.

Plot hole: Where are the police? The chase takes about 8 minutes in the centre of the biggest city and capital of Austria, not to forget the using of the guns.

Continuity: Just after the explosion in the square, we see a shot of the Mercedes' door, and it's still bright silver. In the shot immediately afterwards of George Clooney and Nicole Kidman getting to their feet, it's charred black.

Continuity: When Tom jumps from the helicopter, into the truck that is hanging over the bridge's edge, the rope that is attached to him remains attached until Tom and Alec start fighting. Then it disappears, and suddenly reappears when Alec wraps the rope around Tom's neck.

Continuity: In the subtitles for foreign speaking characters, they can't make up their mind for the spelling of the main bomber: it appears as 'Ducsan' and 'Dusan'.

Continuity: When the helicopters return to base after capturing the warheads, it does a shot showing both of the helicopters coming from either side of the shot and landing. The next shot from the hangar however, shows one of the helicopters landing again.

Continuity: Just after they get the information from the guy's computer, Tom's friend picks them up. His window is up as he pulls up to pick Tom and Julia up, yet the next time we see it a second later it is down then it is back up in all other shots.

Continuity: When the bomber walks on to the streets of New York, he passes a violinist standing next to a tree. There is a man with a red coat sitting on the trees ledge and a black man standing next to him, yet in the following shot (perhaps 1 second later) the man sitting on the ledge and the black man are both standing up about 4 feet away from the tree.

Continuity: When the Major and General are on top of the train just before they jump from one train to the other, the Major and General walk across the top and they pass one, maybe both, of the hijackers. When it cuts to another view, the hijackers are passing the Major and General again.

Continuity: When the hijackers are setting the nuclear bomb, they drill a device to the face of the bomb, and on the right of the screen there are wires sticking out of the little silver box. In the following shot one of the hijackers opens the little silver box and pulls the wires out again.

Continuity: During the Vienna chase, the guys in the black cars are behind a red van, and the red van passes the side street where Tom pulled into, yet from Tom's POV it's passing again.

Revealing: At the end of the movie when Dusan sets the bomb for a time to blow up, he also sets his wristwatch, but if you look closely at the watch, he hasn't set it to a timer/stopwatch.

Factual error: The German text on the screen in Vienna has many small spelling errors. 1.) Under the sign of printing you read the English "Quantity" and the German "Betrag" (Amount) in the same invoice 2.) Under the search bar you first read the wrong word "Schen", one minute later the right "Suchen" (Searching)

Plot hole: When the two remaining American helicopters return from their incursion into Russian airspace, both land outside the operational HQ hangar. This is fine, except for the question of where the eight warheads that they recovered have gone to. Surely they would have brought them back to the base rather than just leave them on the bridge, but if they had, then shouldn't they either have them underneath one chopper when they both land? Or if the chopper carrying the warheads had offloaded somewhere else on the home airbase, why did both helicopters land at the same time outside the HQ hangar?

Continuity: At one point during the big car chase the boot of George Clooney's car is opened by a collision. A couple of shots later it is closed.

Factual error: In the end when our two heroes try to deactivate the atomic bomb, they manage to take away a little piece of explosive, so that the bomb will not do a nuclear explosion, only a conventional one. The problem with plutonium-bombs is that plutonium itself is extremely toxic when pulverised and dissolved into air. And an explosion would surely pulverise the bomb and all people (especially our two heroes being only some metres away) in the city would eventually die because of intoxication...

Continuity: When Tom's friend gets shot and the other guy starts to shoot at the windshield, the bullet holes change between shots.

Continuity: When George Clooney jumps over the bridge after the van, he has a big cut on one side of his face, yet in another shot it is on the other side. Then it goes back to its original position.

Factual error: The IFOR forces looking through the Bosnian's house have Polish badges on them, suggesting that they are indeed Polish, but they do not speek Polish but some other Slavic language, possibly Russian.

Plot hole: When she checks the mails on the AOL account: Why are all mails in English? They should be in German or Russian (Problem: they use an different alphabet, Cyrillic).

Continuity: When the Colonel, who is carrying the nukes in the truck, has to stop at a checkpoint, he shoots two guys out at the front of the truck beyond two round small containers, but they suddenly disappear in all the following shots.

Continuity: When Julia gets email on her laptop in a Vienna hotel room, Tom walks up and looks at it. In this shot Julia taps quite hard on the keyboard then take her hands away from it, yet in the following shot her hands are still on the keyboard.

Continuity: When Tom and Julia are on the way to Vienna Tom changes seats to sit opposite Julia, and he puts his mug down with the mug's handle facing towards the plane's window. In the following shot the mug has turned around its handle is now facing Julia.

Continuity: When George Clooney is waiting for permission to enter Russian airspace in the helicopter, you can see all three choppers hover about 2 meters above the ground, but in following scenes, they are at much greater heights.

Factual error: When the truck carrying the nukes is being tracked by a spy satellite we see a view of the vehicle that is meant to be from high up in the atmosphere. After the truck has left the convoy and is moving along a road in a valley, the perspective of the passing countryside would suggest that the shot is taken from a low flying helicopter, certainly not a satellite.

Continuity: In the beginning of the film the Russian officer presses a code on the back of the train carriage to close the door - the red and green buttons are at the bottom of the panel. Slightly later on when the warheads are being stolen, he has to press the code again, this time the red and green buttons are on the top of the panel.

Continuity: When Julia is first seen she is explaining the satellite images to a guy, and in one particular shot she holds the photograph near the bottom of it. Then in the following shot of the photo, her hand has moved up to the top of the photo.

Continuity: When Tom and Julia are in Julia's office, Tom sits down while Julia is on the phone and begins to read the small card from the flowers. In one shot Tom's three/four fingers are on the back of the card, then in the following shot he is holding the card at the edge with just his fingertips on the card.

Continuity: In one scene the right upper cheek and temple area of George Clooney's face is seen with a large reddish purple scrape. That area is miraculously healed in the next scene, which takes place only a few hours later.

Continuity: When George Clooney is fighting in the truck, there is blood on his left temple. Henceforth, when he is standing on the bridge, the injury is on his right temple.

Other: The Digital logo on the laptop has been turned upside down especially for the film, since the logo would otherwise show upside down to the camera when the laptop is in use (most laptops are the same - the logo is the right way up to the user when the lid is shut).

Continuity: When Tom points the gun at the bomber who is at the top of the stairs, his brother comes round the corner, and in the distance he is walking and creeping up to Tom and Julia, yet in the closeup he is running and waiving a gun not creeping up. Also when the bomber starts to shoot at Tom, Tom and Julia get under a grid of some kind, and when Julia drops her walkie talkie on the floor, its position changes between shots.

Continuity: When the Russian Major is talking to the other lower ranking soldier just outside the train, in one particular shot the soldier is looking directly at the Major. Then in the following shot he is looking down at his feet, and lifts his head up twice to look at the Major again.
