A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) - 64 mistakes

Visible crew/equipment: When Freddy falls over the banister onto the stairs near the end, notice the crash mat he lands on.

Revealing: When Nancy is running up the stairs in her house to escape Freddy for the first time her foot hits the steps and go through the steps into some goop. Look at the steps above that step and you can see the pre-cut holes where the next sets of goop will be.

Visible crew/equipment: When Rod is being strangled by the sheet in the jail cell, watch as it goes around his neck and you can see the wire in the sheet that pulls it.

Visible crew/equipment: This is during the part where the girl dies in the bedroom with her boyfriend (where she gets dragged up along the roof). Just before, when you see the marks made by Freddy's glove, and her hands come up to show her pain, she clearly grabs a chunk of the thin latex pad (best viewed in slo-mo).

Visible crew/equipment: When Nancy's mother is pulled through the door window, a tape marker can be seen on the blue door, above the door handle.

Continuity: When Krueger smashes his arms out the front door window, large pieces of glass are still hanging in the window, but in the next shot, as he pulls Nancy's mother through, all the glass has disappeared.

Revealing: Near the beginning, during Tina's first dream, Tina gets cornered in front of one of the furnaces. She steps forward and Freddy jumps out from behind her and scares her. When she steps forward, Freddy (who is trying to lean down out of the shot) is seen stepping sideways to position himself to scare Tina.

Visible crew/equipment: Right at the end of the film, when Nancy's mother is pulled through the front door window by Freddy, you can easily tell it's a dummy!

Continuity: When Nancy is at her bedroom window, she says "OK Krueger, we play in your court" and she is holding her alarm clock. She then pulls down the blind, then when it cuts to inside, Nancy is walking over to her bed but isn't holding her alarm clock. If you look, the clock is on her bedside table, but she doesn't put it there.

Continuity: In the boiler room Nancy finds Glenn's bloody headphones. As she raises them up from the ground, between shots, the way she holds them changes.

Revealing: When Nancy sees Tina wriggling around in her body band and a centipede comes out of her mouth - you can see this is a doll that the centipede crawls out of.

Continuity: When Freddy jumps out from behind the tree in Tina's dream, his glove is on his left hand then it cuts away and back it's now back on his right hand.

Continuity: Keep watching when Glen sneaks through Nancy's bedroom window for the lighting in the bedroom. When the exterior shots are shown the light is always on but it is sometimes off inside!

Continuity: In the bath scene, Nancy is falling asleep and is awoken by her mother then starts falling back to sleep and her inflatable pillow is roughly 8 inches above her head. When the shot changes to face her, the pillow is now below her head.

Continuity: After Nancy gets out the bath, the big mirror goes from having slight condensation on it, to being covered in condensation between shots.

Continuity: When Nancy is in the boiler room towards the end of the movie, Freddy suddenly jumps out at her and scares her. In this shot Freddy is wearing his hat. Earlier in the movie Nancy takes the hat from in the movie. After the shot where Freddy jumps out at her with his hat on, the next scene is showed chasing her down a stair case without his hat.

Continuity: The next day, after Nancy comes out of her dream with Freddy's hat, she goes into the kitchen and drinks a big cup of coffee. Firstly She chugs a full cup of hot coffee. Ouch...how did she do that? Secondly She does it without swallowing once. Watch her throat.

Continuity: When Nancy gets out the bath, and after her mother leaves, she locks the door then leans back on the sink. Between a wideshot and following closeup, as she leans back, the way her towel and bathrobe are positioned (around her neck) changes. Also, into the wideshot she crosses her arms yet it the closeup her left hand is up by her shoulder.

Continuity: After Nancy wakes up from her nightmare in the dream clinic, her mother discovers her arm is scratched. The tape that was on Nancy's chin has gone, but returns in the next shot, only to disappear in the next.

Deliberate "mistake": As Nancy and her Mum are leaving Rod's funeral, you can see the shot of them leaving the funeral has been sped up. Watch the Volvo "jerk" as it pulls away as the speed is rapidly increased.

Visible crew/equipment: When Nancy "jumps" from the boiler room to her front garden you can see her land in a pile of bushes. You don't even have to look closely to see the big black air mattress she lands on. It actually bounces above the fake bushes and becomes almost completely visible.

Continuity: When Glenn is in Nancy's room to wake her up, she awakes from the nightmare, her mother comes to the door and Glenn goes out the window. Nancy shuts the window behind him. After her mother leaves, the window is open.

Continuity: After Nancy pulls her phone out in frustration, she wraps the phone cord around it, and places it on her bed nice and neatly. But in the next shot of the phone mysteriously ringing, the phone is in a different position and the phone cord is wrapped around the phone differently.

Continuity: When Nancy is by the door, listening to the racket going on whilst Tina's being killed, her boyfriend sneaks up on her, and she says "Oh my God. You scared me." and she grabs her cheek with her hand, and starts to brush her forehead. But in the consecutive shot her hand's down by the wall.

Continuity: Glen is tackled by Rod in the back yard of Tina's house. When he gets up, a grass stain is on the back of his vest, but it's gone when he kisses Nancy.

Continuity: When Johnny Depp is talking on the phone with Heather, he lifts his bedroom's curtain in order to see her (since they live right across the street), pushing it up to his right. But when they hang up, he pulls the curtain back from his left.

Factual error: When Glen and Nancy are talking on the bridge, you can see a huge palm tree in the background. Springwood is supposed to be in Ohio - they show a map in 'Freddy's Dead, the Final Nightmare' - there are no palm trees in Ohio.

Continuity: When the cross falls off of the wall, Nancy rolls over in her bed and stretches her left arm to get it, with her right arm under the covers. Then as the shot changes, Nancy's right arm is resting on the pillow, by her head.

Visible crew/equipment: When Glen walks through Tina's backyard to investigate the noise, right after the bushes rustle when he says "Kitty kitty," the camera progresses forward, and the leg of a crew member is visible for a second at the bottom right hand corner of the screen.

Revealing: In Nancy's final showdown dream, she goes down to the cellar, then goes to open the door which leads to the boiler room. When she opens the door it's hinged on her right hand side, yet when the shot changes the door is now hinged on her left hand side.

Continuity: When Nancy is in class, the teacher walks around the room and we get a good look of everyone in their seats. Then she asks one student to read in front of the class. But the student who gets up and reads wasn't who was sitting there in the previous shot. He is a different person, and is also wearing different clothes.

Continuity: In the prison cell, just before Rod falls to the floor because notices the sheet wrapping around his neck, between shots the way the sheet is wrapped around his neck changes.

Plot hole: Following Glen's death, Nancy tells her father to come across the street in 20 minutes to catch Freddy. She then goes to her house, checks and sets her alarm clock, and proceeds to rig the ENTIRE house with booby traps, including filling a light bulb with the contents of several shotgun shells, and has a heart-to-heart talk with her inebriated mom. When she gets back to her room to go to sleep, she checks her clock again. The time on the clock has advanced only TEN minutes. She did ALL that in only TEN minutes?

Revealing: Nancy is watching 'The Evil Dead' in order to stay awake, but the audio of the film heard doesn't match with what scene is playing on the TV.

Continuity: In her dream Nancy burns herself on a boiler pipe, by her wrist. Yet when outside, examining her burn mark, it is up near her elbow.

Audio problem: When Nancy wakes up from her dream at the Dream Clinic, the doctor tries to give her a shot and you hear the nurse say "This will help you sleep", but the nurse's mouth is closed.

Continuity: Just before Nancy goes into her final confrontational dream she sets the countdown on her wristwatch. The closeups are of a chunky watch with a thick strap, but in the long shots she is wearing a dainty pink ladies watch.

Continuity: When Nancy tackles Freddy on her bed, the alarm clock on her bedside table is away from the edge of the desk. Yet in the shot when Freddy and Nancy roll off the side of the bed, the alarm clock on the bedside table has noticeably moved right to the edge so that Nancy can grab it as she falls.

Revealing: When Nancy is running upstairs, and struggling in the goop holes, we see a shot of Freddy smash his arm through the small door window. If you play in slow-motion, you can see a large pre-made crack in the window to make it easier for him to smash, which WASN'T there when Nancy ran through...

Continuity: When Nancy throws her mother's bottle to the floor she throws it bottom first. When it cuts the bottle lands on its side. With the velocity the bottle was thrown it would have landed bottom first.

Visible crew/equipment: When Nancy and her mother take off with the car after talking to Nancy's father, you can see the camera man, the boom microphone, and the whole film crew reflected in the back of the car.

Continuity: When Freddy falls down the stairs there is an umbrella lying down by the door. The umbrella moves between the shots.

Continuity: At the end of the film the two girls holding the skipping rope chanting the Freddy rhyme swap sides between shots.

Continuity: When Freddy is set alight, he runs up the cellar staircase which has steps with no backs to them. Then when he is hit by the door and rolls down the stairs, the staircase has changed, and the backs of the steps are there.

Continuity: In one scene Nancy's mother is pouring herself a drink, then Nancy enters the room and she switches off the TV. Then Nancy and her mother start talking about going to school, and behind Nancy's mother on the worktop, a white alcohol bottle can be seen. But after their conversation when Nancy leaves, the bottle of alcohol is gone.

Continuity: When Glenn dies, the blood pours up from his bed. It's seen splashing directly onto the lamp above, though in the next shot after his mother walks in, the lamp has shifted and is completely clean.

Audio problem: When Tina is being attacked by Freddy Krueger just as she is trying to open the door to her house, she yells, "Nancy. Open the door. Nancy.", but her lips do not match with what she is saying.

Continuity: After her mother leaves, Nancy rests in the bathtub, putting a cloth on her face and leaving her left hand by her left ear. In the following shot her left hand is in the middle of the tub.

Continuity: Eventually Nancy goes to sleep in her short-sleeved gown. But when she sets the alarm to her wristwatch, she's wearing a long-sleeve sweater.

Continuity: After Nancy wakes up from her final dream that draws Freddy out, the coffee pot behind her is full of coffee. When Freddy jumps from behind the bed, Nancy runs to a now empty coffee pot and smashes it on Freddy's head.

Continuity: When the police arrest Rod you see the policeman on the left holding his gun with both hands. When it cuts he holds it with his right hand only.

Continuity: When Nancy goes to the police station in her dream, she looks down at Rod through a window as he sleeps in his cell. The first shot shows him sleeping completely on top of the covers but when Freddy enters the cell, Rod is partially covered with a sheet.

Revealing: When Nancy runs downstairs and cracks the small door window open with the umbrella, you can see the window is precracked to make it easier to smash.

Audio problem: When the police pull up and run over to arrest Rod, he says "I'm cool, I'm cool!" His mouth doesn't move when this is said.

Continuity: Nancy and Glen are talking on a bridge and Nancy is holding a book. Glen then takes it from her and reads it's title aloud, and in a closeup he is holding the book closed. But as the shot changes Glen is holding the book so that it is open.

Revealing: Towards the end, when Nancy sets Freddy on fire, you can see the asbestos suit Freddy is wearing to prevent himself from getting burned. It makes his body blatantly fatter, and his mask has obviously been stretched to fit over the suit's head.

Visible crew/equipment: In the final scene in Nancy's bedroom, she swings the door open very fast and you can see the camera in the reflection.

Continuity: When Glen sneaks into Nancy's room, she has him turn off the lights and it is pretty dark in her room. When she wakes up to her alarm, it is still night outside but now it is a lot brighter in the room.

Continuity: When Nancy is in the bath, Freddy's hand comes out from under the water. Between shots Freddy's hand goes from having no foam on it, to being covered in foam, to having no foam on it once again.

Continuity: When Nancy is walking to school, Tina's boyfriend grabs her and he is not wearing a T-Shirt, only his black leather jacket. When she visits him in jail he is wearing a white T-shirt and the leather jacket. When you get arrested they don't let you have a jacket.

Factual error: The amount of blood which pours out of Johnny Depp's bed near the end is a ridiculous amount for just one human being.

Continuity: When Nancy lays in bed, she looks up at the wall, just after it has been streched by Freddy. In the wideshot her left arm falls off the pillow, yet in the next closeup it's back on the pillow resting by her head.

Audio problem: When Rod Lane runs away from Lt. Thompson, who is trying to arrest him, Lt. Thompson yells "Hold it," but his lips did not move.

Other: When Nancy has a nightmare in class and wakes up screaming, she almost laughs.
