Continuity mistake: When Olive is at the ice cream store near the end of the film, she picks up a chocolate-coated cone off the counter and crushes it in her hand. However, in the next shot (as Olive walks away), the cone reappears intact.

Continuity mistake: In the restaurant scene when Olive is on a date with Anson, after the waitress sets their food down on the table, Olives bib begins changing positions between shots. In one shot it is tied around her neck. In the next, it appears tucked into her shirt down on her chest. The bib goes back and forth several times before she finally takes it off. (01:10:30)

Continuity mistake: After Olive has been to the principal's office, when she and Rhiannon are walking to their car, in the front-on shot they are leaning on each other. But in the immediately following shot from behind, they are standing about a foot apart.

Continuity mistake: During the musical number in the gym, Olive puts her feather boa around Rhiannon's neck. A couple of shots later, it disappears only to reappear again in close-up.

Continuity mistake: When Olive is talking with her mom on the hood of the car, she starts shoving her scarf in her mouth, but in the next shot her scarf is not in her mouth and her hands are by her sides, with no time to change in between.

virtual-toast

Continuity mistake: When Olive goes into the classroom to talk to Mr. Griffith. The red A changed from being on the right side of her shirt when she stood at the door, to the left side while she is walking in, and back to the right side when she sits down. (00:48:10)

Continuity mistake: When Olive is seeing the guidance counsellor and she gives Olive a handful of condoms, the condoms change positions in the guidance counsellor's hand between shots.

virtual-toast

Continuity mistake: During dinner at the Lobster Shack, the table is bare when the first plate is set down. The second plate and condiments suddenly appear on the table without any servers present or even enough time to have done so.

Other mistake: In the beginning of the movie, when she is speaking to the viewers on her web cam, Olive says something about whatever book you're reading in class always relates to whatever teen drama you have going on, except Huckleberry Finn. As most of the movie is in flashback, this scene takes place chronologically near the end of the story. However, in one scene shown later (ie. before the webcam comment), a girl runs up to Olive and say something along the lines of, "Did you hear about Brandon? He left his parents a note that says, 'I'm gay, bitches!' and ran away with some hulking black guy!" and Olive says, "My apologies to Mark Twain." In the film continuity Olive's comment makes no sense, as she hasn't referenced Huckleberry Finn yet. And/or her webcam comment is out of place, as at the time she makes that comparison she now knows that even Huckleberry Finn is relevant to teen drama.

Continuity mistake: In the scene where Olive and Anson are sitting in the cafeteria talking about going to the Lobster Shack, once Anson stands up, watch the girls in the background. You see a grey sweatshirt and shorts go by, followed by a blond and curly dark haired girl. Then, once the camera shifts and comes back, you see the same curly dark haired girl, followed by the blond and the grey sweatshirt girl.

Visible crew/equipment: When Olive and Brandon are mopping the tennis courts outside for their detention, in the medium shots of Olive bending over to mop, the shape of her microphone pack is obvious under her waistcoat.

Brandon: Do you wanna go out with me?
Olive Penderghast: Brandon, just a couple of hours ago you told me you were gay.
Brandon: You said I should pretend to be straight.
Olive Penderghast: I didn't mean with me!
Brandon: I am tormented every day at school. Just one good, imaginary fling.

Question: Why was Rhiannon angry with Olive? Why would she care who she has sex with?

MikeH

Answer: It wasn't just that Rhiannon believed that Olive had slept with someone. She was angry and upset over the new trampy behavior that Olive was taking on to become more "popular."
