In the beginning of the movie, Joe bit the poacher. "That little demon bit off my thumb and trigger finger" were the exact words said by the poacher, but when the poacher finds out about Joe (on TV) he puts his glove on, and he still has his trigger finger - only his thumb is missing. [The index finger seen is actually part of the black glove that he wears. In the seen where he is shown without the glove, he is missing both the index finger and thumb.]
