After the first loss to Iceland, Bombay makes team USA do Sprints right after the game. This is a reference to the 1980 USA Olympic Team that lost to their biggest rivals by a big amount and had to do Sprints right after as well.
In the first scrimmage game between the Ducks and the new players, Dwayne says "It's a great day for hockey". That is a tribute to former USA Hockey player and coach "Badger" Bob Johnson, who died of brain cancer in 1991. Johnson used to say this to his players every day.
In reference to the 1980 USA Olympic team, Bombay asks everyone in the locker room who they are and where they are from. Couch Herb did the same thing to his players in 1980.
The actress playing Connie has the same surname as her character - Moreau.
Notice that in the first and second movies, both "villain" teams (Hawks and Iceland) are wearing the same style uniforms; Only the teams's crests are different.
