Meet the Parents (2000) - 46 mistakes

Audio problem: When Focker is going back to Chicago the woman who is typing stops moving her hands for a little while the clicking noise is still going.

Visible crew/equipment: When Jack (De Niro) enters the airport door to keep Greg (Stiller) from leaving for home, you can see the reflection of the camera in the glass door and then it backs up as DeNiro walks in.

Continuity: When Greg is eating dinner with Pam's parents, his amount of sweet potatoes on his plate varies, sometimes there's many on his plate, other times there are less.

Revealing: At the part where the two are racing back to the house. At the very last light when the father turns left, you can see that the driver of the Mercedes is a stunt double.

Revealing: At the airport when Jack says 'tow it', there is an extra waiting for his mark to walk outside seen in the reflection of the doors.

Continuity: When Greg goes into Denny's room to get clothes, Denny sneaks back home and the chair is by the window facing backwards, one shot later the chair is facing the other direction.

Continuity: When Ben Stiller is waiting to get on the plane late at night there is no one behind him waiting to get on the plane. Yet when he's on the plane trying to stuff his bag into the overhead compartment there's plenty of people behind him.

Continuity: When Greg is on the plane at the end fighting with the stewardess, her collar goes from being tucked in, to untucked several times.

Continuity: In the race scene on the way home when Greg is driving the car you can see in the background that the seat belt keeps switching positions. Sometimes it is around Bob then it is around Bob and Debbie.

Continuity: When Greg and Pam are dancing in the restaurant, just before De Niro picks up the message from the neighbour about the cat, when the shot is on Greg's face their heads are together, but when the shot is on Pam's face, their heads are separated. This is shown like 8 times, 4 times each side.

Continuity: When Jack is giving Focker the lie detector test, the glow on the table from the light keeps changing shape, from round to square.

Continuity: When Jack and Greg are racing home after the rehearsal dinner, they screech at the same intersection, (by Dunkin Donuts) numerous times. You can see several sets of skid marks already on the road.

Continuity: In a few scenes of Pam's bedroom, if you were standing at the foot of her bed and look to the right you would notice that there isn't a night stand nor a lamp sitting on it. So how is it that Greg happens to turn on a lamp that is sitting on a night stand when he proposes to her?

Continuity: When Greg and Pam's Dad are on their way to the store and they're in the car, Pam's dad is moving the wheel every way when you can see that the car is going straight and finnaly when they make a turn the wheel is straight.

Other: When Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro went to the store there are head rests on the back seats, but on the way back from Owen Wilson's house they've gone.

Continuity: In the den, when Pam is telling Greg how much she loves him, she has her arms around his neck. From over her shoulder, it appears that her arms are under the hood of Greg's shirt, but from over Greg's shoulder, her arms are on top of the hood.

Continuity: When they sit down at the dinner table on the first night, Jack reads the poem he wrote about his mother. He is not wearing reading glasses, but when the shot moves away and returns, Jack is now wearing reading glasses.

Plot hole: The fake Jinx wouldn't be able to get into the den, the door was closed.

Continuity: When Pam is ringing Greg near the end, Jack is watching from the side, and it is obvious how much longer his hair is compared to the rest of the movie. His hair is quite short in the rest of the movie. So it is obvious (since he looks younger in that scene) that that scene had been shot near the start of the filming.

Other: Near the end of the movie, Greg says he's in row 8 on the plane. But when he's on the plane, we see there are only about 7 or 8 rows behind him. If the plane had only 15, 16 rows, the plane wouldn't have that middle section of seats.

Continuity: In the 'race scene' near the end of the film, just before Greg and Jack go their separate ways, you see Larry (who is sitting next to Greg) say, 'Oh, look, there's Jack. Hey, Jackie,' and he waves. Then it cuts to Jack, who is looking at Greg, and then it goes back to Greg, and in the background you see Larry and he is unfolding a newspaper and starts reading it. Then it goes back to Jack, and then back to Greg, where you see Larry with his hands on the dashboard, looking at Jack. So what was with the newspaper? Where did it come from? How did it disappear so quickly?

Continuity: At the dinner table (the urn scene) after Robert De Niro reads his poem he puts it in his wallet and closes his wallet, then in the next scene in the bottom left you see him close his wallet again.

Audio problem: When Jack is talking to Greg inside the changing room, Jack is saying, "I'll be watching you", but his mouth is still moving saying something else.

Continuity: When Jack says, "You spray painted his tail to make him look like Jinxy didn't you?" Look closely at Bob behind him, his mouth is closed but in the next shot of Jack holding Jinxy, Bob's mouth is open.

Audio problem: When Jack talks about Kevin's ring, Pam stops drinking and coughs slightly but her mouth doesn't move.

Continuity: When Greg is trying to open the suitcase, the top pouch is empty, when the delivery man drops it off, and when Jack tries to open it, the top pouch is full.

Continuity: When the characters are standing in the den after the cat has ruined everything, there are plates all over the floor. There is a "T-shaped" pile of plates around De Niro's right foot that almost rotates between cuts.

Continuity: When Pam goes into the den to console Greg after firing the 'shot heard round the world,' she puts her arms around his neck. In alternating shots, her hands go from under the hood of his sweatshirt to on top of the hood.

Continuity: During the scene when everyone is gathered around discussing the whereabouts of Mr. Jinx, Jack announces "We'll just have to reschedule..." Debbie jumps up from the couch and when she does she hits the coffee table causing one of the edges of the table to fall and hit Denny's knee. The next shot the edge is back in place off Denny's knee and Denny has slightly changed positions.

Continuity: Before the fire scene, the rain gutter is on fire in several places. But when the rain gutter gets disconnected, the fire in the rest of the rain gutter mysteriously disappears.

Continuity: Near the end of the film Greg is talking to Pam. She is laying on the bed and he is sitting on the bed . The scene moves back and forth from him to her and every time the pendant on her necklace moves from side to side.

Continuity: At the dinner table when Greg is trying to open the champagne, Pam look straight ahead startled for a second, then in the next frame she is talking to her dad again.  It looks like she is seeing the urn hit before it is in the film.

Continuity: In the beginning of the film, when De Niro is holding the cat explaining to Pam and Greg how he taught the cat to use the bathroom, the cat changes from shot to shot. In some shots it's a very fluffy Himalayan with a lot of black on its head, then the next shot it's a much less fluffy cat with more gray on its head. The positioning of the cat in De Niro's arms also changes from shot to shot in this scene.

Continuity: During the race scene, when Greg gets going again after stopping for the first red light, Jacks car shoots past him. They then race towards the next red light, but when Greg stops, Jack pulls up from behind, as if he had never driven past them.

Continuity: When Robert De Niro's character is showing off the surveillance equipment inside the bear and in the room, he turns the TV on and it stays on. Later when the scene is about completed, the TV is on in one frame, and then with no-one motioning to turn it off, or having their hands near it, the TV turns off by itself. One shot it's on, the next it's not.

Continuity: When Greg borrows Jack's P.J.'s, sometimes there are initials on them others there aren't.

Continuity: When Greg is on the roof listening to Jack talk on the phone in Thai, Jack is wearing a plaid shirt and tan jacket. When the phone call is over, the scene shows the back of Jack entering the house, and he is wearing just a plaid shirt, no jacket.

Factual error: The opening scene outside the pre-school is supposed to take place in Chicago, but actually is somewhere in New York State you can tell by the postcard-like registration sticker in the lower driver side windshield of the cars.

Continuity: When Greg is at the airport's lost luggage department you see the baby chuck up on him but you can see it actually comes from too low down.

Continuity: In the first scene where Ben Stiller is holding the (substitute) cat the camera turns away from him for a second and it's in a completely different position.

Continuity: Pam's hair constantly looks different from shot to shot in different scenes. For example, when they first get to the parents' house it goes from limp/wavy to ringlet-type curls from shot to shot. Also, she is wearing a lot of eye make-up in the car on the way from the airport, but once she gets to the parents' house it seems like she hardly has any make-up on.

Continuity: For the first half of the movie, the cat's tail changes colour from black to light brown, to black again.

Continuity: Before and throughout the scene where Jack demonstrates his hidden cameras, the lemon and cherry in Greg's glass keep moving around.

Continuity: Ben Stiller buys Champagne in a drug store, yet in NY the only legal place to buy wine/champagne is a liquor store.

Continuity: After the urn scene Greg and Pam are kissing and depending on where the camera is her hands are either on his cheek or more near his ears.

Continuity: Robert De Niro's hairstyle changes throughout the film. At some points it's thin on top, at others it's rather thick.
