Mistake Factual error: Captain Sawyer confronts Wellard, saying that his authority was by grace of King George II. The film is set in the early 19th century, and George II had been dead for over 40 years. Had Sawyer received his step from George II, it is unlikely that such a noted sea captain would not have received his flag years before. Promotion to flag rank was by way seniority and the latter half of the 18th century was a time of almost constant warfare.
