Mistake Continuity: When we see Maverick for the first time in the hanging scene he is sitting on a horse with a rope around his neck, which is completely covered by his collar. When the camera angle changes the knot is much higher and the rope is fully visible, although the horse hasn't moved yet.

Mistake Continuity: During the first scene when Maverick is being hung - the Spaniard drops the bag of snakes - in the next long shot there is a hat on the ground at the hoofs of the Spaniard's horse which mysteriously disappears in the next camera shot.

Mistake Continuity: In the opening 'flashforward' scene, when Maverick is hung, the rope is thrown over a big branch and tied to the trunk. When the plot arrives at this point again the rope has been thrown over a small branch, which breaks off when the horse walks off and Maverick falls down. Furthermore, since his foot is stuck in the stirrup the horse drags him across the ground with the branch in tow, which should not be possible since the rope should still be tied to the trunk.

Mistake Continuity: When Maverick rides into the village on donkeyback he overtakes a wagon pulled by two oxen. A bit further down the road the same wagon is coming from the right (it is the same as the oxen show the same patterns).

Mistake Continuity: In the second round of the first poker game the guy with the very pronounced chin is holding his cards close to his face. In close-up a cigarette appears between his fingers, which is gone again in the next shot.

Mistake Continuity: When Maverick beats up the four guys whom he had paid for this you see a horse tied in front of the saloon. The horse's head points either to the left or to the right, and this changes several times in alternating shots.

Mistake Continuity: The smudge that Maverick gets on his collar in the subsequent fight changes shape from when he's outside to when he's inside.

Mistake Continuity: When Maverick walks into his room at the beginning of the movie after playing poker, he doesn't shut his door, but it is mysteriously shut when Anabell knocks on it a couple of seconds later.

Mistake Continuity: Maverick's hotel room undergoes a strange change after Annabelle enters. Originally there is an open window in the wall to the right of the bed. Later there is a plain wall with a shadow cast by a window across the room.

Mistake Continuity: When Eugene hands over his wallet to Danny Glover, Danny is pointing his gun with his arm stretched out. When it cuts, Danny has his arm pulled back and his thumb on the gun's hammer.

Mistake Continuity: When Danny Glover and Maverick are looking at each other as if they knew each other, Danny's mask moves further down his face between shots.

Mistake Continuity: After Maverick hands over the $100 bill to the thugs, he's back in his room where he discovers a deck of cards. At first all the cards lie directly on top of each other. When it cuts, the cards are a bit scrambled on top of each other.

Mistake Continuity: In the scene where the Spaniard is beating up all the guys that Maverick paid off he ties one guy's neck to a post with his whip. As the shot changes you see the whip go only around his neck, but in the last shot of the scene it's around neck and post again.

Mistake Continuity: In the stagecoach when Maverick feels the driver's right hand and says he's dead. He climbs out the window of the coach and the driver's right hand is back in his lap holding the reins.

Mistake Continuity: Maverick brings the runaway carriage to a screeching halt at a rather straight, even edge of a canyon. In a wide shot from above the carriage is standing on rocky ledge.

Mistake Other: When the carriage stops, Maverick, who was holding on tightly to the reins, is propelled over the edge of the canyon. It remains a mystery how the dead driver stays on his seat.

Mistake Revealing: When Maverick is pulling the dead stage coach driver up to the roof of the coach, watch the driver's right hand - he grabs the railing to help push himself up to the roof.

Mistake Visible crew/equipment: In the scene where Mel Gibson tumbles over the cliff, right along his boot, which is in the air, a safety harness is visible on Mel Gibson, which is best viewed in slow motion. (As per MM's rules, slow motion is permitted in order to view significant things such as crew/equipment and revealing mistakes.)

Mistake Other: During the scene when the trio is attempting to rescue the mission women's money, Maverick goes on a rant on how he is outmatched in bullets when set up against the thieves. He complains that he only has six, so he takes Ms. Bransford's gun as well, yet when the shooting finally begins, he fires about fourteen shots from his six-shooter before pulling out his second gun.

Mistake Revealing: When Maverick is tied up following his horse truck tracks are visible on the ground.
