When the mother is leaving a bottle of wine at Max's house and is being chased by the dog, the dog lunges through the fence. The fence slightly breaks apart by the dog's mouth. The shot changes, and the fence is intact. Another shot and the fences has an even bigger gash in the side, and again, intact. See more...

Mary Lambert was originally set to direct, but was fired due to creative differences between her and producer Richard Donner.
The plot of the movie was intended to involve middle-school aged kids as the vampires, just as the lost boys in Peter Pan. The director loved the title, but hated the idea of this, so he changed it.
After twenty years of attempting to make a sequel, the direct-to-video film Lost Boys: The Tribe was released in 2008. Coincidentally, the film features Kiefer Sutherland's half-brother, Angus, as the head vampire.
Kiefer Sutherland was originally only intended to wear his black biker gloves during scenes in which he rode on his motorbike. However, while messing around off-camera, he fell off one of the bikes and broke his arm. He then had to wear the gloves to cover his cast.
In the end when David is impaled on the antlers, he doesn't die like the other vampires. Even though Max later says so, David doesn't die. This was intended to give way to a sequel, but it never happened.
According to the writers, the character name of Lucy was chosen to reflect with Lucy Westernra, from Bram Stoker's Dracula.
