High School Musical 3: Senior Year (2008) - 57 mistakes

Continuity: At Riley's Garage, when Troy and Chad are about to rummage through the junk looking for the radiator cap, Troy raises his arms and his boxers are light grey, but next shot when he lifts the truck's hood his boxers are black. It's also noteworthy to mention that during "Boys Are Back," young Troy is wearing patterned boxers, though all other clothing is identical.

Other: At graduation, after Troy is handed the diploma, in the overhead shot the graduates on the left and right stand-up from their seats, then turn and walk towards each other. All their seats simply disappear between shots. Obviously done deliberately for the dance sequence, but a mistake nonetheless.

Continuity: When Tiara is at Sharpay's locker, she holds out the pink shopping bag with her left hand, but next close-up it's in Tiara's right hand.

Continuity: When Coach Bolton confronts Troy about Juliard, and then when Troy is at East High at his locker changing into his Wildcat jersey, he is wearing dark boxers. When Troy is on the stairs singing "Scream", before reaching the cafeteria, his boxers are light blue.

Continuity: When Gabriella joins Troy on the roof, she places her bag on the step before she picks Troy's tux. The bag's position changes throughout this scene.

Revealing: After Gabriella and Troy convince everyone to stick with the musical, when Ms. Darbus asks everyone to line up she walks to stage left (viewer's right) and steps behind her white mark, on the otherwise clean stage floor.

Continuity: When Taylor reads Gabriella's letter from Stanford University, the envelope in her hand is vertical, then horizontal and back to vertical.

Visible crew/equipment: The reflector screen is reflected in Kelsi's eyeglasses, in many shots throughout the film.

Continuity: On the treehouse, when Troy helps Gabriella up during their song, "Chad's" red cape, which is draped to the floor, and Robo Rob are visible behind them on the windowsill. In the next shot as Troy removes his sweatshirt, only a bit of the cape is draped over and the toy has moved farther away from the window's frame. When they turn the corner, we can see that more of the cape is draped on the inside of the treehouse again.

Deliberate "mistake": Troy and Chad drive into Riley's Auto Salvage and park the truck beside the trailer office (which Riley steps out of), near a tow truck. During "Boys Are Back", just after the shot with the female silhouette and the line "Save the girl," in the next shot Chad and Troy run past the trailer office, but Troy's truck has vanished. No worries, because the truck is back beside the tow truck after the song.

Continuity: Just as Gabriella and Troy walk into Gabriella's backyard, they put their belongings down on the table, with an Adirondack chair beside it and the second Adirondack farther away from the table, mostly out of frame. Next shot, when they sit on the hammock, that second Adirondack which was out of frame has moved forward, so the end of its arm rest is level with the table's corner. When Mrs. Montez comes out it's back to the way it was in the first shot.

Continuity: Chad and Troy bring Zeke's dessert to Gabriella and Taylor, with orders to polish off the evidence, when the girls are working on the yearbook. The photos and papers on their desks change between shots.

Continuity: When Troy is focused on the game at the beginning, his hair is soaking wet due to sweat perhaps, but when he is in the locker room during half time, his hair is dry.

Other: When Tiara hands Sharpay the bag with the latte you can see that there is nothing in the bag, especially at the end of the scene when Sharpay tosses the bag behind her back. It would have spilled if there really was a latte in there.

Continuity: When Troy surprises Gabriella from behind he pulls her into the treehouse, and as they stand at the center holding hands, behind Gabriella is the brass bell (which is at the doorway they sat in front of earlier) and behind Troy are two model airplanes. In the next two shots as the ceiling opens, though the couple have not moved, now the airplanes are behind Gabriella and the brass bell is behind Troy, but they revert back to their original positions in the final shot inside the treehouse.

Continuity: At Riley's Garage, after Troy finds the radiator cap he lifts the truck's hood and tosses the red t-shirt onto the engine. Once he removes the duct tape and places the cap on, back to the side shot the t-shirt has changed position.

Continuity: After their musical number during the show, when Troy hands Gabrielle the bouquet of roses, the white ribbon is either higher up in the close-ups or lower down in the wideshots.

Continuity: After Kelsi signs everyone up, and they stand around the piano complaining, in the shots facing Gabriella her hands are on the piano to the left and right of the notepad. In the shots facing Kelsi, Gabriella stands to the side of the notepad.

Continuity: When Gabriella and Troy are up in the treehouse, the three flower hair barrettes on Gabriella's right side form a triangle. Depending on the angle of the shot, the 'triangle' of flowers are formed with one flower at the top and two lower, or two flowers at the top with one lower flower.

Continuity: When Gabriella holds up the toy Robot Rob to Troy, the robot's left arm sticks out in one shot, but is down to its side in the next.

Continuity: At the graduation, during the song High School Musical the staff members are standing on the stage while clapping along, but in the next shot the staff members are no longer on the stage, then they are back on stage.

Continuity: During the musical number "Just Wanna Be With You," Troy jumps onto the railing and hangs off of it with one hand when he sings the line "no matter where life takes us." The paint on the railing is obviously still wet, because Jimmie can be seen painting it. However, in all subsequent shots, there is no white paint on Troy's hand until he climbs over the railing later in the song.

Other: In the scene where Ryan joins Kelsi for early-morning rehearsal, Ryan sits at the piano and starts playing "Just Wanna Be With You." However, the sheet music only shows the melody, not the actual music, and this is the first time Ryan has seen the song, so he has no possible way of knowing how to play it.

Continuity: In the musical number at graduation, Ryan's shirt un-tucks and re-tucks several times during the dancing.

Continuity: When Sharpay steps to the front of the line-up, in the close-up she walks to stage right (viewer's left) passing Taylor, whose right hand is up beside her face as she holds a pen. Next wideshot Taylor's hand is down, penless.

Visible crew/equipment: When they are singing "A Night To Remember", with Ryan in the prop house with Sharpay in the bathroom (with the blue and pink background), there is a crew member reflected in the background colour.

Continuity: During "Now or Never", Troy passes the ball to Chad who is standing on the left side (looking to the cheerleaders) of the white line drawn on the floor, but when he catches the ball he is on the other side.

Continuity: After Troy has the chat with Chad on the basketball court, when they're joined by Coach Bolton there is a close-up of Chad and Troy, whose graduation gowns/sashes are neat and tidy. Then after a shot of the coach as he tells them to get back to the stage, in the teenagers' next close-up their graduation gowns/sashes are all mussed up and disheveled.

Continuity: During rehearsal, just after Ryan cracks up at the sight of Chad in the clown suit, as Taylor pulls Chad away Gabrielle walks to the center of the 'balcony', with her back to Troy. Next shot, however, Gabrielle is back near the corner or the railing facing Troy, but next shot she's farther away again.

Continuity: When Troy and Gabriella are rehearsing "Just Wanna Be With you," Jimmie is seen painting in the background. In the first shot, Jimmie is crouching and gradually stands up. In the next shot, Jimmie is crouching again.

Other: When Troy and Chad are in the junkyard, Troy gets his hands dirty. In the next shot his hands are now clean.

Factual error: When Troy calls to Gabriela from the rooftop, the clock on the school's facade reads about 7:46, but the sun is almost directly overhead. There's no way it's quarter to eight in the morning.

Continuity: The balcony railings are being painted during rehearsals with white paint and the cast get paint on their hands. However, in the final show the railings are wooden, stained with a colour.

Continuity: At East High at night, when Troy is sitting on stage talking with Ms. Darbus his hands/fingers are clasped together in side shots, but when the shots face him he is fidgeting with his ring.

Continuity: After they all agree to do the show, when Ms. Darbus shows up and Chad tosses her the basketball, it keeps changing from two drawstrings, to one, back to two that hang down Chad's hooded sweatshirt.

Continuity: Throughout the film, the multiple bracelets that Gabriella wears change positions on her wrist, between shots, depending on the camera angles.

Continuity: When Sharpay appears at Troy's locker to let it slip about Gabriella's 'Freshman Honors Program', Troy's notebook changes position. Such as, the front of Troy's notebook (with the Wildcat sticker) faces out, but in a close-up the back (cardboard color) faces out.

Continuity: In the cafeteria, when Taylor agrees to be Chad's date the blonde wavy haired girl is sitting behind Chad, but next shot she's excitedly standing, then back to sitting when it cuts away.

Continuity: When Gabriella and Troy walk into her backyard, Troy drops his book down on the table, with its spine facing the gate, but next shot the book has rotated about 90°.

Continuity: As Jimmy and Donny stand on stage wearing only towels, the way Troy and Chad are holding the boys' clothing differs, depending on the camera angles.

Continuity: When Troy and Gabriella are sitting in the treehouse, depending on the angle of the shot, Gabriella's upper body is turned more towards Troy, or is parallel to him.

Continuity: After Kelsi signs everyone up for the Spring musical, when they all stand at the piano complaining, the notepad on the piano changes position depending on the angle of the shot.

Continuity: In the scene where Troy and Gabriella are sitting on the edge of the treehouse, Troy's hands on his leg continue to move up and down suddenly, between shots.

Visible crew/equipment: When Jimmie and Donny are talking backstage of the senior year show, you can see a crewmember reflected on the pink picture.

Continuity: In the scene at the end when the curtain falls, Ryan raises his hands too early.

Continuity: During the rehearsal of "Just Wanna Be With You", Jimmie leaves the cup of paint and paintbrush beside the railing. Not only does the cup of paint move (note rail post and pickets) in following shots, but after Gabriella dabs paint on Troy, the paint cup just vanishes, as well as the paintbrush Gabriella dropped.

Continuity: At graduation, while they are dancing, when Chad drops the basketball from under his arm Troy picks it up, but in the next shot Troy is not holding the basketball he is dancing with Gabriella.

Continuity: In the scene where Chad asks Taylor to the prom, at the very beginning of the scene, a shot is shown that shows the whole cafeteria. Neither Chad nor Troy can be seen at the top of the railing. In the next shot, however, they are suddenly there.

Continuity: When the students are complaining around the piano, depending on the shot Zeke either has his arms folded or suddenly has his hands in his pockets.

Continuity: In the cafeteria, just before "I Want It All", when Tiara places the 'reserved' sign on Gabriella's tray, its items change position between shots.

Continuity: When Kelsi and Ryan sing "Last Chance" in the shots facing Ryan the music sheets overlap, but in the shots facing Kelsi there are spaces between the three sheets.

Continuity: Just before "I Want It All" in the cafeteria, Sharpay pushes Ryan's lunch tray away, then pushes it again some more off to her left. When the shot faces Ryan, the tray is back near Sharpay, but when the next shot faces Sharpay the tray has moved even farther off to her left again. She does not touch the tray between these shots.

Continuity: When Troy surprises Gabriella at Stanford you can see that she has some dirt on her arm. As they continue to dance, you can see that her arm is clean.

Continuity: During the outdoor graduation, the shadows on the lawn very noticeably change between shots.

Continuity: Troy tells Gabriella he's never been to a dance, much less a prom, but the picture on his bedside table and the picture in Gabriella's locker in High School Musical 2 were supposed to have been taken at Junior Prom.

Continuity: When Troy and Gabriella are dancing on the rooftop, the potted trees and hanging potted plants are swaying in the wind in some shots but are motionless in other shots.

Continuity: When Gabriella speaks out to everyone in front of the piano, to get them to agree to do the musical, in the first shot her hair is over both of her shoulders, then it is pulled back behind her right shoulder. In the next shot it is hanging in front of both her shoulders again.
