Factual error: The car sequence in the beginning is impossible to perform in Italy. 007 drives from Garda Lake to Marbles Caves near Carrara (about 250 km/130 miles if you take the highway or 300 km/150 miles if you take the state route) chased by another car at maximum speed. Not only the trip is too long, but in Italy you have to stop at least at 2 payment tolls (on highways) for such a travel. And at least once at the gas station for refueling (an Aston drinks a lot). If you take the state route it's worst: you must cross several small towns. There are plenty of street cameras and speed controls, no one noticed 2 cars even firing with guns at that speed and dangerous way of driving for such a long time? How many bullets did they have for shooting longer than an hour? And then, more 200 km with a completely destroyed car from Carrara to Siena (what a strange choice for MI6 to place a secret hideout, so distant from where Bond took the quantum man and even on the day of the Palio horse race!) without being noticed or stopped by any police control? They stop you even if you have a broken rear stop light or wrong type of tyres. (00:00:05)
Continuity mistake: At the beginning the roadway openings have curved arches, a very short straight section with rectangular openings, then more arches. When the driving begins, the arches have disappeared and the entire sequence is on a very long curved section with rectangles, before they get to the open road. (00:00:50)
Continuity mistake: After Camille shoots General Medrano, she sits up on the floor looking at him; the very next shot has an overturned table beside her that wasn't in that first shot. (00:01:45)
Continuity mistake: When Bond is talking to M, his shirt collar is out of the blazer, then back in, then out again; all in a space of 30 seconds. (00:08:40)
Continuity mistake: At the beginning of the movie, Bond and M are interrogating Mr White, who Bond brought in. As Mr White tells Bond that he was always interested in meeting him, look at his face - there is no blood line going down the right side of his face. But the next shot shows one as he continues talking. (00:09:15)
Continuity mistake: When M meets Bond near the beginning of the film, as she walks down the stairs she is wearing flat shoes, but as she gets to the bottom she is wearing high heels. (00:16:45)
Continuity mistake: During the fight scene at the Hotel Dessalines with Slate, Bond and Slate go through glass pane doors and land on the terrace, and Bond kills Slate. Notice that at first there is a broken piece of wood pane laying next to Slate's head; the next shot shows no wood pane, and there is a door knob that wasn't laying close to Slate's head in the first shot. Continuity mistake: In the scene on Haiti, before Camille gets on the boat, she talks with Dominic Green and has her hands on his shoulders. However, the positions change between shots - from shoulders to upper arm and back again. (00:25:05)
Revealing mistake: When 007 jumps his bike onto the boat you can see a ramp and flat landing in the scene. (00:29:23)
Continuity mistake: When Bond is talking to Mathis at a table at the cottage in Italy, pay attention to the watch on Mathis' wrist. First, it faces the side of his wrist because that way it is best shown on screen, but in the next shot, still at the table, it suddenly faces the outside of his wrist, like watches are usually worn. Continuity mistake: As Bond is cradling Mathis after Mathis gets shot by the policemen, the blood on Bond's right hand changes between the long shots and the close ups. (01:03:10)
Continuity mistake: After Bond throws Mathis into the dustbin, the position of Mathis's arm changes. In one shot, it lies in the dustbin; in the next shot, it lies on the edge of the dustbin. (01:04:05)
Continuity mistake: At the very end, when Bond throws the can of motor oil at Greene, it first lands next to his left foot. The next shot from Greene's POV, looking down on the ground, shows that the can is now in front of his feet. (01:36:20)
Factual error: During the boat chase scene, Bond throws a grappling hook/anchor from the old boat he is driving onto the deck of the rubber boat "riding" his. The rubber boat is then violently yanked off of Bond's boat and crashes. This makes no sense. For the rubber boat to be yanked off that way, the other end of the anchor line would have to be tied to something stationary. However, the other end of the line is just lying in Bond's boat. There's even a shot of it sitting there.
Continuity mistake: At the end of "Casino Royale," Bond is wearing a three-piece suit. Although "Quantum of Solace" begins just minutes later, Bond is wearing a completely different two-piece suit.
Continuity mistake: At the beginning, during the car chase, the lorry has its tyre shot out and smashes into the wall, breaking its wing mirror. When it steers back across the road, the wing mirror is in its original, unbroken state.
Factual error: Cars in Bolivia are required to carry both front and rear registration plates. In the movie, hardly any of the cars shown have one.
Revealing mistake: In the rooftop chase between Bond and Mitchell, it is obvious that both characters are wearing black running shoes, when in the previous scene, both wore smart black suit shoes.
Continuity mistake: When Bond is on the plane with Mathis and asks the waiter for his usual drink, between shots, Mathis' hair changes. In some shots, there's a lock of hair on his left, down by his eye. In some shots, he's got two bits of hair loose on his right. And in others, his hair's all in place. All this without him ever touching it.
Factual error: Bolivia has no desert. It has a large highland called Altiplano and the world's second largest salt desert. Both look totally different than the landscapes shown in the movie.
Answer: He's an operative of the Quantum organisation that Bond is up against who specialises in seducing women who can then be manipulated into helping their cause - in Vesper's case by pretending to be kidnapped to force her to cooperate. When Bond catches up with him, he's in the process of seducing another woman, no doubt to involve her in some scheme or other. Bond tells her the truth and she leaves, leaving Bond to deal with the Quantum agent.
