Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009) - 70 mistakes

Continuity: When Harry is kneeling beside Dumbledore's body, at the foot of the Astronomy Tower, Ginny joins Harry and holds him at his left side (viewer's right). In the last close-up of Professor Dumbledore's face, Harry is visible in the background with a space to his left and Ginny is now gone. That same angle was shown before Ginny joined Harry.

Visible crew/equipment: At the end of the Quidditch match, when Ron shouts, "Woo hoo!" with his arms raised, just as his cape flaps around the black seat on the actor's broom becomes visible. There are a couple of other quick glimpses of a seat during the Quidditch match.

Other: In quite a few shots during the film, it is much too obvious that there are no lenses in Harry's glasses, whereas in previous and following shots the glasses have lenses. A couple of instances are: when Harry drinks the Felix Felicis and when Harry kneels beside Dumbledore, at the foot of the Astronomy Tower.

Revealing: It is not what is seen here that is the problem, but what we don't see on the Hogwarts Express; first on the way to Hogwarts when Harry, Ron, and Hermione are in their compartment talking about Draco, and second, during holiday break, when Harry and Ron are talking about Unbreakable Vows. As the camera faces the large compartment window, we see the scenery out the window, but as the train speeds along, the scenic reflection of the windows opposite it, in the corridor, should be seen but isn't. What is reflected is the light colored wall of the compartment beneath the blacked-out window. The camera filming the shots from this angle is positioned at that window, and to hide the camera/crews' outline, the window was covered.

Continuity: When Hagrid and Slughorn are drinking after Aragog's funeral, Slughorn's cup is considerably larger than Hagrid's cup, but after Hagrid passes out Slughorn's cup is now the same size as Hagrid's cup.

Continuity: In the dormitory, when lovestruck Ron is going gaga over Romilda, he is wearing a brown sleeveless tee shirt and its tan trim has many holes. When Harry brings Ron to Slughorn, Ron is still wearing that tee shirt, but now some of the holes are gone and the rest of the holes have changed position.

Continuity: In Potions class, when Hermione stands before the cauldron explaining what she is smelling in her closeup, we see Neville behind her with the broad space to his right (viewer's left), just as she says, "Spearmint toothpaste". In the instant cut to the wideshot, Harry is now shoulder to shoulder with Neville, too fast for him to suddenly be standing that close to Neville.

Continuity: At the Three Broomsticks, after Slughorn spills the drink the foam on his fingers disappears, reappears, disappears, and so on.

Continuity: In the dormitory, when Harry walks in to see lovestruck Ron at the window, Romilda's card and empty chocolate wrappers are on Harry's bed. When Harry places the Marauders map and Potions book on the dresser, the card and wrappers have changed position.

Continuity: When Harry and Dumbledore return from the Horcrux cave, Dumbledore sits down with his arm around Harry's neck. When Dumbledore asks Harry to go fetch Snape, his arm suddenly disappears, and there was no time for him to have moved it.

Continuity: When Harry, Ron and Hermione are at the Three Broomsticks talking with Slughorn, Slughorn spills his butterbeer on Hermione and the table. Still in the conversation, the table is shown, but it's dry. Then a little later, there is foam on the table but only near Harry's glass. The rest of the table is still dry.

Continuity: In the scene with Weasley's Wizarding Wheezes, as the camera pans up the front of the store, one sees the store name (in gold lettering). However, when Harry, Ron, and Hermione leave the store to follow Draco Malfoy the store name is no longer present.

Continuity: In the living room at the Weasleys' house, while Harry, Arthur, Nymphadora and Lupin are talking, in the shot facing Lupin, Harry's shoelace is untied. After a brief cut to a shot facing Nymphadora and Arthur (where we can see Harry's hands), it cuts back to the original angle and now the shoelace is tied. (This has nothing to do with Ginny tying Harry's shoelace much later on.)

Revealing: When Slughorn stands before Tom Riddle speaking of seven Horcruxes, as the professor faces the fireplace and says, "This is all hypothetical," and when Tom replies, "It'll be our little secret," in these close-ups particularly the square lighting/reflector screen becomes clearly reflected in the eyes.

Visible crew/equipment: After Luna and Harry meet and walk off to Slughorn's party, it pans to Draco on the stairs. It then cuts to Draco walking forward to the wall of the Room of Requirement, and at the start of the shot the actor's mark is visible on the ground behind him.

Continuity: In the Room of Requirement, when Draco first uncovers the Vanishing Cabinet, the items on the floor behind him change position between the overhead shot and next close-up.

Visible crew/equipment: When Harry joins Luna in the corridor, they set off to Slughorn's party, and, just as they begin walking, the actor's white T-mark is visible on the stone floor where Luna was just standing.

Continuity: When Slughorn and Harry are talking at The Three Broomsticks, Slughorn's grip on the silver mug repeatedly changes. His fingers are either at the top of the mug or at its center, depending on the camera angle.

Continuity: Near the start, when Slughorn shows Harry the framed photographs the frames change position between the wideshot and close-ups.

Continuity: After Hagrid passes out in his hut, when Harry tells Slughorn of Lily's sacrifice the vegetables behind Harry change position on the shelves.

Continuity: After Harry arrives at the Burrow, when he, Hermione and Ron are sitting and chatting, Hermione changes position - notably her knee is up, down, up, etc.

Continuity: During dessert at Slughorn's supper party, the napkins that hang from some (Belby, Neville, etc) of their collars change positions in consecutive shots.

Continuity: As Harry and Luna come through Hogwart's gates, an Auror standing outside begins to walk backwards in through the gate. He makes it half-way through, but in the next shot, he is still at the end of the gate.

Continuity: In the Great Hall before the Quidditch match, in the shots facing Hermione she is sitting opposite the empty place setting beside Ron, but in the shots facing Ron she is directly opposite him. Take note of the goblets, plate of eggs, etc.

Continuity: At the Three Broomsticks, when Slughorn and Harry speak, Slughorn holds a silver mug with a high foam head, but in the shot facing Harry, before Slughorn actually spills the drink the mug's foam head is gone (visible at the bottom of the screen), only to reappear when he spills it on Hermione ,whereupon the same previous angle is shown again without the foam.

Continuity: When Harry finds Hermione crying at the bottom of the stairs, with the conjured canaries flying overhead, there are numerous leaves/debris on the lowest steps and near her feet, but in the shots looking down from the top of the stairs the area is clear. (This has nothing to do with the few leaves that blow about.)

Continuity: After drinking the poison in Slughorn's office, Ron falls and in the overhead shots the top of his head is near the rug's edge, but in side shots his head is well below the large diamond pattern, more than a foot away from the edge.

Visible crew/equipment: Before the Quidditch match, when Ron walks into the Great Hall, Seamus runs up to him from the right side. As Ron and Seamus walk forward the camera moves backwards, and the white mark is visible on the floor where Seamus was just standing.

Continuity: In the Great Hall, when Ron sits down with Harry and Hermione before Quidditch, the newspaper Hermione is reading goes from her hand to under her arms, then back again, etc, between shots.

Continuity: At the Burrow, when Harry is speaking with Lupin, Tonks, and Arthur, and then when Ginny joins him on the sofa, the orange blanket lying on the sofa's arm to Harry's right moves forward, back, forward, etc.

Continuity: The very first shot of Malfoy pulling the tapestry off the Vanishing Cabinet (after tossing a green apple in his hand) is used once again later (after Harry and Luna head off to Slughorn's party), when he is pulling the tapestry off again before placing a green apple in the Vanishing Cabinet. Note the same poof of dust, angle in which tapestry falls, and Draco's body position.

Audio problem: When Ron and Harry are walking down the corridor towards Potions class, Ron says, "...Quidditch trials coming up, I need to practice," but his mouth is not moving and/or not in sync with that dialogue.

Continuity: When Dumbledore and Harry enter the muggle house to find Slughorn the lights are all out; the only illumination comes from their wands. They enter the hallway, then both turn towards the living room with their wands in front of them. Despite this, the wall behind them is illuminated without either of them casting a shadow. The lighting in the hallway is obviously coming from a different source, not the wands. Can't be moonlight - it is a bright white light shining directly on the wall that was not visible when Harry and Dumbledore first entered the flat.

Continuity: At the Three Broomsticks, when they notice Dean and Ginny snogging, Hermione's left arm is leaning across the table in front of her, then both her arms are down at her sides in the shot facing her, but next shot, her arm is on the table once again.

Continuity: Aboard the Hogwarts Express, when Luna finds Harry lying petrified on the floor and then speaks with him, the way she holds her wand and the Quibbler newspapers differs between shots.

Visible crew/equipment: When harry and Hermione are at the top of astronomy tower, actor's mark is visible in between their feet.

Continuity: During the first potion class scene during the movie, Hermione and Lavender are seen standing next to each other while being taught potions by Professor Slughorn. However, within the first minute or so of the lesson, Hermione and Lavender are standing far apart, then in the next shot, they are standing close together, with what looks like barely any space to move. They remain like this for the rest of the scene, but you can see the gap between the two within the first few minutes of the class.

Continuity: When Dumbledore and Harry approach the Slughorn armchair, on the left there is a white lampshade lying on the shelf hanging over the edge. When Slughorn stands up and walks to the door to lock it, the lampshade is farther back on the shelf.

Continuity: When the Death Eaters attack Ollivander's, the debris/fire and the bodies lying on the ground differ between the overhead and next close-up.

Continuity: In Potions class, when the students prepare the Draught of Living Death, as Harry tells Hermione, "Crush it, don't cut it," the way he holds/squeezes the Sopophorous Bean has instantly changed from the previous shot.

Continuity: Aboard the Hogwarts Express, when Draco petrifies Harry he falls immobilized. Just as Draco kicks him, Harry's head is positioned farther out in the aisle, than previous and following shots.

Continuity: When Luna and Harry pass through Hogwarts gate, the parchment and wand in Flitwick's hands differs between shots.

Continuity: When Harry is in the diner and places the newspaper down on the table as he speaks with the waitress, it lies over the table edge (front and side edges), then doesn't, then does so again...

Continuity: At the Three Broomsticks, Slughorn is holding a mug with his left hand when he speaks to Harry, but when he says, "Good to see you, Wallenby," the mug is suddenly in Slughorn's right hand, with his left arm down by his side.

Continuity: In Potions class, when Slughorn removes the vial of Felix Felicis, he turns to face the class and holds the vial up for the class to see, but in the next shot facing him he holds only the very bottom point of the vial.

Continuity: When Hermione opens the locket to read the note, the locket and chain's position changes in her hand between consecutive shots.

Continuity: When Dumbledore brings Harry to meet Slughorn, the Daily Prophet is lying on the floor amongst debris, including a hammer-type object, which differs between shots.

Continuity: When Dumbledore and Harry are talking about Horcruxes, Harry's hair is nice and combed in one shot. The camera cuts to a side view and his hair is now messy.

Continuity: At the end when Harry moves the hair from Dumbledore's face in the closeup, several strands of hair are left. When they pan back to Dumbledore, different strands of hair are across his face.

Continuity: In the Great Hall, when Lavender's eyes are shooting daggers at Ron and Hermione, Harry's arms/hands keep changing position on the table as the three of them speak.

Continuity: In Hagrid's hut, when Slughorn and Hagrid are drinking, the cups/bottle on the table change position between shots.

Continuity: In Potions class, just before the students go to their cauldrons to prepare their Draught of Living Death, Hermione stands in front of Harry, but in the long shot she is instantly beside him, then she's suddenly back in front of Harry again.

Continuity: At Slughorn's party, Harry and Slughorn have their picture taken. Before and after the flash the background changes completely without enough time to change.

Continuity: When Ron is foaming at the mouth, the foam is either there or it's not, depending on the shot.

Continuity: At Aragog's funeral, there is a long shot of Slughorn, Hagrid and Harry standing by Aragog. However from this angle Aragog is not here. Given the angle you should be able to see Aragog's body.

Continuity: In the Great Hall, when Ron (wearing his Quidditch uniform) asks Hermione about the Slug Club, Ron's right arm lies on the table in front of him in shots from behind, but in shots facing him his right arm is down beside him.

Continuity: When Ron sits down with Harry and Hermione in the Great Hall before Quidditch, the bowl/spoon is either right beside Hermione's left hand or farther away, depending on camera angle.

Continuity: In the Great Hall, from the time Hermione hits Ron with the book to when Harry (with bloody nose) joins them, the spoon in Hermione's bowl repeatedly faces the opposite way depending on the angle of the shot.

Visible crew/equipment: When Harry is lying outside the hut at the end of the film, Snape kicks his wand away. A block of neon tape can be seen briefly beneath the wand when Snape kicks it.

Continuity: At the Muggle orphanage, in the corridor when Mrs. Cole says, "Tom, you have a visitor," Dumbledore's scarf hangs askew, but next shot facing him the scarf hangs properly.

Continuity: At the Burrow, when Ron takes a seat between Ginny and Harry he is holding a pedestal plate full of pies, which change in the next shot facing the other way.

Continuity: At the end of the movie, there is a long shot of Hermione, Ron and Harry atop the Astronomy tower. In this long shot Hermione's hands are in different places compared to the previous close up.

Continuity: During the Slug Club's dessert, as Slughorn speaks to the students, their ice cream, syrup, thin wafers, spoons, etc, change depending on the camera angle.

Continuity: The glass that is smashed in the Great Hall's window behind the staff tables changes somewhat from when Bellatrix smashes it, and when we are shown the Great Hall empty.

Continuity: Tied round Dumbledore's beard is a thin silver strand, with dangling silver balls, that changes position and the height of the silver balls differ in consecutive shots, depending on the camera angle throughout the film. For example, when Dumbledore and Harry first pay a visit to Slughorn.

Continuity: When Dumbledore is talking to Harry about Horcruxes, Dumbledore's hair is blowing and messy in one shot, but fine in the next shot.

Other: When Harry and his friends visit the Weasley's house the second time - when the Death Eaters attack - the constellation Scorpio is visible in the sky. Scorpio is a summer constellation. It shouldn't be visible in the winter. Furthermore, it probably can't be seen as far north as England (although I don't live there, so I'm not sure).

Continuity: On the Hogwarts Express, when Lavender draws the heart with her and Ron's initials, etc, on the glass door, it differs in the following shot from the corridor (when it is seen backwards).

Continuity: At the Burrow, when Tonks and Lupin are at the front door with Mr. and Mrs. Weasley, it cuts to an exterior shot of Harry looking out the window with his arm leaning across his knee in front of him, but in the next interior shot his arm is down at his side.

Continuity: Whenever Draco is standing in front of the wall for the Room of Requirement, there is a large tapestry there. At other times, the wall is bare.
