Mamma Mia! (2008) - 57 mistakes

Continuity: In the shot in the bathroom, Tanya has a small diamond necklace but in the next shot in the bedroom the diamond appears larger.

Continuity: When Sophie is finally dressed for her wedding, the gauzey material is predominately over her right shoulder/breast. Next shot it is over her left. When she gets on the donkey, it is completely off her right side and her bra shows.

Visible crew/equipment: When Donna is telling Tanya about Sophie's dad arriving, stage lights can be seen in Donna's glass.

Continuity: During the wedding scene, all three of Sophie's possible fathers stand up and gather behind her on the aisle. In one closeup shot Sophie turns around to say something to Sam - in this shot the right part of her hair is behind her right shoulder. In the next shot as she is turning around back to face the priest, her hair is suddenly neatly in front of her right shoulder.

Continuity: During 'Winner Takes it All', at the start of the song, Donna has her hands up near her chest, in the next shot they are down by her side.

Continuity: During Dancing Queen Donna is jumping on the bed. Between the camera angles, her position keeps changing.

Continuity: In the Souper Trouper scene, when we see Dona, Tanya and Rosie raising their left hands, we see that Rosie is just behind Dona's sleeve. However, in the next shot, in which we only see Dona, we can't see Rosie or her shadow at all.

Visible crew/equipment: When singing Dancing Queen an extra is seen falling off a ladder. If you look at the front of his shirt, a safety cable can be seen.

Continuity: At the end of Voulez Vous, the people pick up Sophie. In one shot her hair falls down to her shoulders, camera cuts and it falls back down again.

Continuity: Just before the song "Does Your Mother Know" on the beach, the items on the bar change their position during the scene, from shot to shot. For instance, the bucket of ice, Tanya's bag and drink, etc.

Continuity: Soon after arriving, Tanya and Rosie are at a bar and suddenly Donna comes out in tears. Tanya is just receiving a cocktail from Pepper, the bartender. Rosie and Tanya then hurry after Donna - and during the rest of this scene, the amount of drink in Tanya's cocktail keeps lowering then rising.

Continuity: When singing Mama Mia the first time, the position of the mum's arms are constantly changing between shots.

Continuity: During "Money, Money, Money" Donna walks into the kitchen and all the staff are sitting at the table. They hurriedly get up and start working, and a newspaper is left right beside the large fish on the table. When the shot goes back with the table visible, the newspaper has gone.

Continuity: When Tanya first arrives, at the end of the song, her arms constantly change place between shots.

Continuity: When they are singing Does Your Mother Know You're Out, a man is seen getting out of water and then lying in the sand. When he stands up no sand sticks to him, which it should.

Continuity: When Tanya and Rosie arrive at the island, they get off the boat and walk up the pier. They break into song with Donna (who is walking towards them) but as the shot keeps changing, the two old men standing on the pier disappear and re-appear every time the camera changes.

Continuity: During the last half of the movie Donna wears a red sweeping shawl over her shoulders, with her outfit for Sophie's wedding. Many times the position of the shawl is not consistent during shots - most noticeable after she walks Sophie down the aisle, then sits down.

Continuity: When Donna is dancing to "Dancing Queen," her hair is all messed up. But in the next shot, her hair is not messed up.

Continuity: When Rosie and Donna are trying to get Tanya's boots off, Tanya is lying flat on her back. The camera does an instant cut and she is now propped up.

Continuity: During the wedding of Donna and Sam, the rings on Donna's fingers are disappearing and reappearing.

Continuity: When Sam and Harry get out of their separate taxis near the start, there is a huge amount of rope on the harbour. Camera cuts and it's now disappeared and is not trailing from the boat.

Continuity: When Sam tells Sophie that they could do a test to see who her father is, Sophie raises her hands to her face twice.

Continuity: During the song "Lay All Your Love on Me" on the beach when Sky is on top of Sophie, you can see that Sophie has a pair of black trousers on.

Other: At the end of them singing "Money, Money, Money", when Donna is screwing the falling window shutter back, there is no drill bit on the drill, making it not possible for her to put the shutter back up.

Continuity: During "The Winner Takes It All," you first see the cliff with the church and the sun very low on the horizon. Later during the scene, the sun is much further to the right and higher in the sky (the sun glare on the water is bright white). The scene was apparently filmed in the morning (and not in the evening) and we see a sunrise and not a sunset.

Continuity: During "Dancing Queen", Donna hides her face in the pillow while looking at Rosie and Tanya singing. On the right side of the bed where Donna is lying is a red table lamp, a glass cup and some stuff on the table. During the chorus, Donna jumps on the bed, and in the jumping shot, the table lamp and everything else on the table is covered with a white cloth with a red pattern.

Revealing: During the wedding at sunset, the sun stays in that exact same position for over 15 minutes, it never sets nor moves an inch, thus revealing it's a green screen still image.

Visible crew/equipment: When Donna and her friends are singing "Super Trooper" at the bachelor party, you can see a crew member reflected on the colorful door.

Other: When Harry Bright and Sam Carmichael are standing on the dock in Greece after missing the boat, Harry pulls out his invitation and references the wedding in the invitation, but the envelope is sealed.

Other: In the scene where Sophie meets her friends at the beginning Ali is wearing a backpack. When Sophie shows her mother's diary, Ali's backpack is gone for a few minutes and then reappears as they are shown running up the hill to the hotel.

Visible crew/equipment: When Donna's friends singing to Dancing Queen you can see a crew member reflected on the hairdryer.

Continuity: When Sky hands Tanya and Rosie a drink when they first arrive on the island and meet him on the courtyard, Tanya raises her glass and begins to drink. Then when the shot changes her hand is back down by her waist.

Continuity: Donna, Tanya and Rosie are singing Super Trouper for Sophie's Hen Party - when they get to the end of the song and all 3 ladies put their hands one of top of each other (whilst they are singing 'Like I always do') and then lift them above their heads. Rosie's hand has changed, in the first shot it is her right and in the second her left hand.

Continuity: When Meryl Streep closes the bedroom door in the scene right before "Dancing Queen", you see Julie Walthers' reflection in the mirror next to her, hands on her hips. In the next shot Streep turns to face Walthers, who now suddenly hasn't got her hands on her hips anymore.

Visible crew/equipment: When Sam is proposing to Donna, you can see a screen reflected in Rosie's glasses.

Continuity: When they are singing Does Your Mother Know You're Out, a man is seen getting out of water and is soaking wet. However, a few shots later he is completely dry.

Visible crew/equipment: Near the end, when the woman is asking Bill to Take A Chance On Me, she falls and is hanging from the roof. In one shot when she has her glasses, a light screen can be seen reflected in them.

Continuity: In the scene where Donna is crying and having her nose wiped her nose is very red. As soon as she leaves the building and crawls on the roof her nose is just fine.

Revealing: Towards the end of the Money Money Money song there is a scene where Donna, Rosie and Tanya are sitting in the Captain's deck. If you look at Rosie you will see she is looking through binoculars. Look closely and you'll see that the lens caps are still on.

Continuity: When Sophie is in her bedroom with Ali and Lisa after they have just arrived, Ali has a scarf and she places it on her shoulders. In the very next shot it it now suddenly wrapped around her shoulder, even though she didn't have time to wrap it around.

Continuity: When Sky is getting his hat and cigar as "props" for his stag party, as he leaves the room wearing the hat and holding the cigar. In the second shot as he walks past Sophie, there is a long loose cord hanging down from the brim of the hat - which wasn't there in the first shot.

Continuity: At the chapel, Sam has just proposed to Donna. She says she's not a bigamist. Sam says neither is he and that he has loved Donna for the past 21 years. To his right stands Sophie, who after hearing Sam say this, is all choked up and looks like she's about to burst into tears of joy. Immediately after you see this expression we see Donna very briefly (one or two seconds). When the shot goes back onto Sam and Sophie, Sophie has a huge grin on her face. Nothing is said by Donna or Sam in this extremely brief period of time that would justify her instantaneous change of expression.

Continuity: When Sky is on the beach with Sophie, his arms are constantly changing place depending on the shot. This is not due to dancing.

Continuity: When Tanya and Rosie sit down on the boat on the way to the island, as they sit down Tanya has her hands in her lap. In the next shot they're up by her neck.

Audio problem: Sophie and his boyfriend sing at the beach, he says he likes to smoke and pronounces the word "true" with the camera facing him. Right afterwards there's a side shot and music is heard with no lyrics, yet he is mouthing as if singing. Then back to a front shot and now he sings and mouths.

Continuity: When Tanya is singing "Does Your Mother Know", she walks away from the bar and goes out to the beach to join the crowd of men who are dancing. As she's walking, there's a side shot of her, and in the background you see an extra with a towel around her waist wearing red wayfarer sunglasses. But then there's a face-on shot of Tanya, and the extra's sunglasses have disappeared.

Continuity: By the end of the song "Chiquitita", Donna has a red rose in the side of her head (positioned in her hair) after Rosie put it in there. As the shots differ, in some shots the red rose, which should be visible (judged by the amount of the side of Donna's head we can see), is not there. It appears and then disappears a few times and is not due to the angle.

Continuity: When Donna climbs on top of the goathouse after seeing Sam, Bill and Harry, and begins to sing "Mamma Mia", as she rolls around all over the roof her dunagrees (especially the knees) become dirty. However the amount, prominence and position of the dust and dirt on her clothing changes a few times during the whole scene.

Continuity: When Sophie is hurrying all three potential fathers into the goathouse, Sam is the last one in. As he walks in we see his bag strap slide down from his shoulder to his elbow. As the shot changes, the strap is now instantly back up on his shoulder.

Other: Donna sings The Winner Takes It All and it is nowhere near sunset. During the song she makes her way up to the church. But when she arrives, there is a good sunset.

Continuity: When Donna is fixing the crack in the tiles, the tip of the filler-gun breaks off. She stands up, and a bit later waves the filler gun, with the tip back on. The pistol has been out of sight (her hands down) during the scene, but she didn't look down once, and we see that she is carrying a bowl in the other hand, so she would not have had a chance to put the tip back on again.

Visible crew/equipment: At the end of a song near the end, (can't remember which one) the stage lights and a light screen can be seen in the champagne glasses of the guests.

Continuity: On the boat when they are singing Our Last Summer, Sophie is seen sitting next to Bill. In this shot she is holding a picture of Bill in her hands. The camera cuts and now Bill is holding the photo.

Revealing: During the "Lay Your Love" song, when Sophie and her boyfriend are in one of the corners of the beach, sneaker footprints are seen. Given that the tide is constantly wiping off their bare footprints, the tracks most surely belong to a crew member.

Continuity: When Donna, Tanya and Rosie are on the couch talking, Tanya asks Donna "if she's getting any." As she asks her this, the shot switches angles. And as it does, the towel that Tanya is wearing on her head changes from dangling behind her shoulder to suddenly hanging in front of it.

Continuity: When Donna breaks the shutter, her reaction is different from the angle looking into the room than it is from the inside shot.

Continuity: When Tanya and Rosie are talking to Donna in the bedroom just before the "Dancing Queen" number, they are talking about how bad Donna used to be. Rosie then puts a hat on Donna and Tanya puts a green feather boa on Donna's shoulders - twice - between shots.
