Continuity: Three soldiers carry Captain Willard into a room by a window where a woman gives him some water from a ladle. As first the sunlight falls across his waist then in the next shot as she gives him the water the sunlight is now on his face and chest.

Continuity: During the arrow attack Lance shouts out, "Cut it out, quiet". The boat is traveling straight ahead but 10 seconds later Lance shouts out again, "Quiet" and the shoreline behind him is the exact same spot.

Continuity: Lance comes down from the roof of the boat and we get a good close-up look at his makeup. Fifteen seconds later as the arrows start flying his facial makeup is entirely different (neck, nose, ears, bandanna).

Continuity: In a shot from behind his head Captain Willard sits and looks at Roxanne as the man in the tan jacket to the left of her says, "Look, Captain". In the next shot the captain's right hand is raised shielding his eyes from the sunlight.

Continuity: When the soldiers carry Clean's flag draped body to its final resting place there's no sunlight from behind falling on the flag. The next time we see it it's bathed in sunlight coming from the opposite direction.

Continuity: The entire French plantation dinner scene is beautifully lit. It looks as though it's sunset until Hubert walks over to the window in middle of the scene. As he stands by the window we can see outside and it's not sunset but midafternoon. Then as he walks to his seat he passes back into the yellow stage lighting again which makes it look as if it's sunset.

Continuity: At the end of this scene the shots of Chef and Miss May in the helicopter at the Medevac were done in an entirely different place. All the outside shots of the helicopter have different backgrounds (trees, mountains, tower) from what we saw when Captain Willard first walked around the Bunnies' camp.

Other: Clean gets some tapes from his mom back home but if you look closely at the back of his tape recorder as he grabs it there's no way for him to play the tapes without batteries in it.

Continuity: After Lance and Captain Willard return to the boat Chief Phillips says, "which way captain". As the captain sits on the front of the boat look closely at his tee shirt, he has something underneath resembling a large newspaper or package. When he takes his tee shirt off there's nothing under there except his dog tags.

Continuity: As they approach the USO show at Hau Phat, Clean has a very large zit on the left of his chin. Later in this scene as he's speaking to the sergeant about getting some fuel it's gone.

Continuity: Before they swing the boat around and head to shore to meet up with Lieutenant Kilgore it's the middle of the afternoon with the sun above them. When they reach the shore in the next shot and get off the boat it's sunset.

Deliberate "mistake": Martin Sheen has a cut on his cheek that starts as a scar and becomes an open wound.

Continuity: The day after the USO Playboy Bunny show, the patrol boat canopy is set afire by some pranksters from a passing boat. Yet, that night in the scene at the Do Lung Bridge, the canopy is intact. It goes through some amazing transformations during the remainder of the picture.

Continuity: Dennis Hopper holds his cigarette between the first and second finger of his left hand before he gives the water to Captain Willard in the bamboo cage. In the next shot as he gives him the water the cigarette is between his thumb and first finger. Then in the shot after that it's between his first and second finger again.

Continuity: As Lance prepares Chief Phillips' body for burial at sea they are both surrounded by orange smoke. In the previous shot the PBR was surrounded by purple smoke.

Continuity: As the shot shows Chef and his playmate Miss May through the helicopter window it's pouring rain and totally overcast outside. In the next shot from inside the copter, water is cascading down the windows but the sun is now shining.

Continuity: There's a perfect backlit shot of Captain Willard as he swings at Colonel Kurtz and he's now wielding a third machete as he kills him. This one has a square hatchet like blade attached to a long handle.

Continuity: As the boat approaches Kurtz' compound the natives in the canoes are looking forward. In the next shot they're facing sideways looking at the PBR.

Continuity: As Hubert says, "They put the French army in an impossible situation where they couldn't win." Notice Roxanne and the people next to her, whom are bathed in sunlight, in the next shot the woman has no sunlight on her at all.

Visible crew/equipment: The boom mike, camera and lights can be seen in Lieutenant Kilgore's sunglasses as he gets out of his helicopter.
