National Treasure: Book of Secrets (2007) - 26 mistakes

Audio problem: While investigating the Statue of Liberty, Ben says, "Laboulaye had to leave a clue somewhere". However, when he says this, his mouth doesn't move.

Revealing: In the scenes where Riley is using his computer to look up information on the "SearchInfo" site, the screenshot used is of Wikipedia. (You can even see the "About Wikipedia" link on the left).

Continuity: In the Easter Roll scene at the White House, the bunny tucked into Nic Cage's jacket pocket is different to the bunny we see tucked into his pocket later on in the scene just after he has found the seal in the Resolute desk in the Oval Office.

Continuity: Mitch Wilkinson jumps to a hanging ladder in the hidden chamber at Mount Rushmore, the first shot shows him hanging off the ladder with a pistol holster through his belt loops. The shot cuts away and when it returns there is no pistol holster where there was seconds earlier.

Revealing: In the scene where the barrels of beer are rolling off the truck, you can notice small squibs going off to make the barrels look like they have been shot.

Character mistake: When Benjamin Gates' parents first reach the City of Gold and see the other characters, they yell to each other. They yell "Ben" and Nicholas Cage yells "Jon" (presumably Jon Voight) instead of "Dad".

Factual error: Although there are two resolute desks, one being in the Oval Office of the White House, the other is not in Buckingham Palace. It is in the Royal Naval Museum in Portsmouth, England. It is also smaller than the White House desk, and does not contain any drawers.

Audio problem: In the final scene of the movie, when Riley is walking toward his car, he walks approx 30 feet from behind the car up to the car, notice that there are no other cars behind him. As soon as he starts the car he accidentally goes in reverse and we hear him crash into another car, yet there was no one behind him for at least 30 feet. We did not see or hear another car pull in behind him in that few seconds. There is no car parked behind him.

Factual error: At the beginning of the film, John Wilkes Booth is seen departing the tavern and arriving at Ford's Theater by horse. The tavern is actually right next to the theater.

Continuity: When Ben Gates and company first examine the Booth diary page, they notice a few of the digraphs relevant to the cipher. After he says to flip the page, pause it and notice the digraphs that are visible. They are: ME IK QO CQ TE ZX. Later, when Ben discovers that the key to decoding the cipher is DEATH, Riley inputs the keyword into his computer. Pause it when it shows his computer screen. The various digraphs that they have input are nowhere close to the ones they discovered on the page. They are: QF JU WJ AK EH. Not even the same amount of digraphs, no less.

Plot hole: When the characters are trying to escape Cibola through the central drain, the drain is actually, as Ben and Patrick imply, really just a room which dead ends, and they have to open the door to keep it from filling up. If this were the case, the entire city of Cibola and the room above (where Ben first says that all the water goes out somewhere) would have been completely filled up with water over the centuries. But in the movie the water had apparently been draining through that central "drain."

Continuity: When Ben and Abigail are examining the Resolute desk at Buckingham Palace, Ben starts opening the drawers and discovers the code option numbers on the underside of the drawers for the first time. When he does this, in the shots of the underside of the drawer, Ben is pulling the drawers out almost all the way, but in the shots from above, he is barely pulling the drawers out at all.

Continuity: Just after Ben mentions Montesquieu to the French policeman, the other policeman's head changes position between shots.

Revealing: When Nicolas Cage meets the president in the hangar and the president hands him a newspaper containing an article clearing Cage's great-great-grandfather's name, the text of the article in the center top of the newspaper in that scene contains the same body text as the article to the right that's titled "Family Saved."

Visible crew/equipment: When water is breaking through the wall you can see that at times the water is going through preformed squares.

Factual error: In the scene where Ben and Abigail are using the service lift to get to a different floor in Buckingham Palace, Ben presses the button on the exterior, then shuts the door. This is inaccurate as, with that type of lift, pressing the buttons when the doors are open does nothing. The lift can only move if the doors are closed when the buttons are pressed.

Factual error: In the movie, the bad guy steals one of the good guy's cell phones and "clones" it so he can listen in on their conversations. Although cell phone "cloning" is possible in real life, it does not work this way. What would happen would be that whichever cell phone the tower finds first would be the one that would ring, so the bad guy could pick up the phone and make the connection (although his voice would most likely give him away). It would not, however, let him eavesdrop on a connection already made between the other cell phones.

Visible crew/equipment: In the last scene when Riley Poole is walking to his home and spots his Ferrari that was repossessed, when the camera tracking shop stops, in the reflection on the side of the car you can see the camera and the camera track reflected in the door of the Ferrari.

Continuity: During the car chase in London, when you see from inside the car, you can't see any of the glass at the bottom on the rear window, but when you see the car from the outside there is a significant portion of the glass left.

Visible crew/equipment: At the last scene when Riley Poole gets in his Ferrari, you can see the camera man in the reflection by the head rest of the seat. You can see a black dot moving. That's the camera man's head.

Continuity: During the car chase in London, the Range Rover with Mitch Wilkinson crashes into the rear end of the Fuller beer truck, damaging the left front bumper parts and headlights. Later in the chase, no damage is seen.

Continuity: During the scene where they encounter the beer truck in the alley, they are driving towards it, but in the next shot the car is the other way and are driving away from it.

Factual error: When inside the Oval Office, we look out through the windows to the left of the desk (towards the East) and see bushes and trees right outside the windows. But on that side of the oval office there is a covered patio with columns, and it is quite dark.

Factual error: The reenactment of Lincoln's murder is not historically correct. Booth shot the president in the back of the head. Lincoln slumped over in his rocking chair, unconscious. One of Lincoln's guests - Major Rathbone - jumped from his seat and tried to prevent Booth from escaping, but Booth stabbed the Major violently in the arm with a knife. Rathbone quickly recovered and tried to grab Booth as he was preparing to jump from the sill of the box. Booth again stabbed at Rathbone, and then attempted to vault over the rail and down to the stage. His foot was caught on the Treasury flag, and Booth came down full-face to the audience thus, breaking his leg.

Continuity: Many beer kegs fall from the truck, yet the number remaining on the truck barely goes down from shot to shot.

Factual error: In April, any lake in South Dakota is freezing cold. And it goes without saying that you don't have to be in cold water very long for hypothermia to take effect; even a few minutes is enough. So why don't our heroes succumb to any kind of hypothermia when the gold chamber floods with icy lake water?
