The Simpsons Movie

Question: Why did Grandpa join the angry mob? It would make much more sense if he was either on his family's side or simply remained completely neutral.

Answer: The family doesn't treat him very well, particularly Homer. He may have wanted some revenge on them. Grampa is also a little senile.

Question: In the scene, where Lenny informs Homer that they're giving away free donuts at the shop and that they're going very fast, why didn't Homer ask Lenny to save him some? If he did and Lenny agreed, Homer wouldn't have to hurry up nor dump silo in the lake, thus the dome situation could have been avoided.

Answer: Homer has been known not to make the smartest decisions, and the decisions he does make, he makes without fully thinking them through. Clearly he wanted to get some donuts as quickly as possible without thinking of any other ways, so he decided to ditch the silo in the lake as it would be the fastest way of getting it off his back, even if it's not the smartest. Also, putting that aside, he likely wanted his own pick of the donuts rather than have Lenny guess what he wanted.

Casual Person

Question: Has there been much in the way of controversy about Bart's, ahem, exposure?

Answer: Not really - firstly, it's only a cartoon, and although Bart is only a child, his manhood is so crudely drawn it isn't exactly the most authentic (or anatomically correct) drawing of his 'winkle' - pretty much just a harmless joke.

Sam Johnson

Question: When Homer opens the curtains from the Red Rash Inn Motel room, there are several Advertising sign posters in foreign languages. The one in the middle-right is in Korean and it advertises classes to learn English with a Texan accent. Can someone explain what this joke is about?

Answer: I believe the joke is supposed to be that the way Texans speak is a language all its own.

Damian Torres

Question: In Grandpa's prediction in church, what was the meaning of the "thousand eyes" or something like that? We didn't see whether Marge figured it out.

Answer: It refers to the multi-eyed mutant squirrel that was created by all the pollution in Lake Springfield. Marge probably figured it out, but it was not shown on screen.

Question: First of all who is the EPA guy and what does he have against Springfield? Secondly, What happens to Spiderpig? Halfway through the movie they just cut him out.

Answer: Well, as the movie states, the EPA guy is the administrator of the "Environment Protection Agency." It has been declared that Springfield is the most polluted towns in the country. As such, obviously the town would be thorn in his side. As far as the pig goes, often times in shows like the simpsons there are random comical characters entered and then they disappear just as quickly without any reason as to why. In Spiderpig's case, he is more than likely left behind when they go throught the sandtrap to get out of the dome. Odds are, when the entire town is scratching at Homer's head and attempting to kill him, and the house is spirralled into the sand hold, the pig was either in the house or caught up in the debris and dies.

Ian Mugford

There was a deleted scene showing that this pig survived.

Question: It says in Guinness world records 2013 that one of the scenes parodies Star Wars. Which scene?

Answer: It's at the end of both The Simpsons Movie and Return of the Jedi, during the celebrations, and it's not actually a scene parody. At the end of The Simpsons Movie, when Homer and Bart show up and the crowd gathers around them, we see Carl happily shaking his fist, and after Bart's dog shows up, when it cuts to the wideshot we see Carl raising his arm way up (as if he were showing something zooming up to the sky). At the end of Return of the Jedi, after Lando hugs Chewie, we see Lando shaking his fist in the background, and then in closeup raising his arm way up as he's explaining to Chewie what happened.

Question: Dr. Marvin Monroe isn't dead because he appeared in season 15, so why wasn't he in the movie?

Joel Sheffield

Chosen answer: There's no rule saying that every character from a TV show has to appear in the movie. There are plenty of short-lived characters from the show that weren't featured. He just didn't fit into the plot.

Question: Is there any reason why the EPA couldn't just put the dome over the lake instead of the whole town? I mean, the only thing that actually is causing any pollution is from the lake.

Chosen answer: It's less about containing the pollution itself and more about destroying the kind of people who let it get that bad.

Greg Dwyer

Chosen answer: Matt Groening thought very highly of Phil Hartman, (Philip J. Fry on Futurama was named after him as well) and had retired all of Hartman's characters upon his death. He probably thought that bringing them back for the movie just so audience members could have an "A-ha!" moment would have tarnished the memorial.

Captain Defenestrator

Question: When Carl told Cargill that people would discover the dome, how does that help them? How is that a problem for Cargill even if they hadn't taken Springfield off the map?

THE GAMER NEXT DOOR

Answer: Carl presumably believes anyone noticing an entire town being trapped inside a dome would do something to help them out of their predicament.

Phaneron

Question: Why is Cargill so determined to keep the people of Springfield trapped in the dome?

Chosen answer: Because he's power hungry and doesn't like Homer wrecking things.

Greg Dwyer

Question: How could the citizens of Springfield breathe with a dome over their town?

Socks1000

Chosen answer: There were still trees in town to create oxygen, however, in all probability, the EPA meant for everyone to die off eventually.

Captain Defenestrator

Answer: 1PHL07.

Ssiscool

Question: Didn't anyone notice Maggie, Lisa, Bart and Marge jump from the treehouse to the sandbox portal without anyone from the very large mob noticing? It seemed like nobody noticed until Homer jumped in and got stuck initially. Everyone in the mob were around the sandbox, how come no one noticed the other four Simpsons jump?

Answer: The tree kept bending down over the sandpit, so maybe the mob didn't see them jump in. Also, they were pretty much just after Homer anyway, so maybe they didn't care if the rest of the family got away.

Sierra1

Question: Is there any meaning behind the license plate number on Homer's car?

Answer: There is no meaning behind Homers licence plate.

Ssiscool

Question: How come Lisa's presentation was changed from "An Inconvenient Proof" to "An Irritating Truth" for the DVD release?

Brad

Chosen answer: I saw the movie at the midnight showing on its first release in Michigan and it was "An Irritating Truth" for me there. It still says the same thing for my DVD.

Question: I saw a scene in the movie trailer that showed Mr. Burns in a bath filled with gems, this is obviously a deleted scene, why isn't this scene with the deleted scenes?

Joel Sheffield

Chosen answer: Not all deleted scenes make it into the extras on a movie's DVD, usually because of limitations on disc space.

GameBlade

Continuity mistake: When Maggie does her disappearing act through the sinkhole, and Marge rushes to get Homer, the wooden porch swing is directly in front of the window, with its top beam as high as the top of the window. When Homer says, "This dome can play tricks on you," note the door and window behind Marge, because the swing is now gone. (00:31:10)

Trivia: As inspiration for the crowd scene in the film, the production staff spent a long time looking at the Simpsons poster that features over 320 of the show's characters. Groening said that they did try to put every single character into the film, with 98 having speaking parts.
