There is a scene where Father Costigan is walking outdoors carrying a bunch of books. He is frightened by a shadow of a statue that seems to turn into a swarm of buzzing insects. He drops his books. When he bends to pick them up one of the book is open to what appears to be a painting. The painting resembles Albrecht Durer's "St Michael fighting the Dragon", but with some subtle differences (its in color and there is a child in the foreground.)
