Mistake Continuity: In the catacombs of the library, Indy and Elsa are waist deep in petroleum. Indy has a torch, and if you look carefully, you will see burning pieces of the torch fall and hit the petroleum. Wouldn't this start a fire?

Mistake Plot hole: When Indy is stepping on the letters at the end, trying to spell out God's name, he steps on J, incorrectly. When he falls through, however, he grabs onto another letter so as not to fall down. The letters he grabs onto and pulls himself up are an L and a Y, which are not in the word Iehovah, so should have collapsed too.

Mistake Revealing: When Indy has just climbed the stairs in the library and is leaning over the rail to look at the X below, directly behind him is one of the worst props I've ever seen - a flat fake book case.

Mistake Continuity: When Indy and gang are racing the Nazis to the canyon of the Crescent Moon, Indy looks at the Nazi convoy with binoculars. Close-ups of Indy show the sun is clearly behind him, and the binoculars are in his shadow. But then a glare from the lens alerts the Nazis to their presence.

Mistake Plot hole: At one point, Indy rolls off of the side of a tank, and somehow gets a strap around one of the guns pointing out from the sides. The end of the barrel has already been blown open by the rock he shoved in earlier. How did the strap get around that big cluster of metal, and then back again so he could climb back on the tank?

Mistake Continuity: When the tank goes over the cliff, the turret detaches upon impact. But in a subsequent shot, the tank is shown rolling over with the turret still attached.

Mistake Factual error: When Adolf Hitler autographs Indiana's grail diary, he does so with his right hand; in reality, Hitler was left-handed.

Mistake Factual error: In this film, and in Raiders of the Lost Ark, the German vehicles are clearly marked with the DAK (Deutsch Afrika Korp) symbol (a swastika over a palm tree.)  The DAK and its symbol were not created until 1942 when Hitler tried to rescue his Italian allies in North Africa.

Mistake Continuity: While Indy and Marcus are in the apartment in Venice, after Marcus says, "He knew everything, except the name of the city", he slams the diary shut. Then it's shown open, and he closes it a second time. When Indy takes it, it's once again open.

Mistake Revealing: During the "What happens at 11 o'clock?" joke, Jr. counts down ("12, 11, 10!" or something like that) with his hand, matte lines surround his hand to the point where it almost dissappears.

Mistake Audio problem: When Indy confronts the butler at the castle, we hear the butler say, "...I am Mickey Mouse." But his lips say something else. He actually said "I am Jesse Owens". It was changed because they thought a lot of the audience wouldn't know who Jesse Owens (the black athlete who won at the Berlin Olympics) was.

Mistake Factual error: The boat chase in Venice. Just after Indy says "don't go between them" a jet stream is visible above the two boats. Not very likely in 1938.

Mistake Continuity: At one point Indiana's father blows the tail of the plane in which they were flying to pieces in an attempt to shoot at the Germans. This is obviously in a close-up studio shot. The next moment the plane is shown flying in the distance with its tail still intact.

Mistake Revealing: A very obvious dummy replaces the Nazi when the tank hits the bottom of the cliff.

Mistake Other: When Indy is breaking through the wall in the catacombs, and he uses his shoulder as a battering ram. You can see his head actually bounce off a piece of the rock real hard as he is going through the wall. If the rock was real, I guess Indy would have a lot to cry about that night.

Mistake Other: When they go under the coffin you see the flame of the torch in the background. How could the flame go under the petroleum with them without either setting light to the petroleum or being extinguished itself?

Mistake Factual error: When Indy and his father are being chased by the German soldiers on motorbikes they can be easily identified as modern lightweight Japanese trailbikes, not the big heavy BMW's the German army used.

Mistake Factual error: When Indy and Henry are going around in the fireplace, the Germans are firing on them. They are firing tracer rounds, as we can see them spark on the fireplace. However, tracer rounds spark orange, not blue, as in the movie.

Mistake Revealing: Indy and Henry go through a tunnel to avoid the Nazi planes, but one flies into the tunnel anyway. When it goes into the tunnel, it's covered with matte lines, and it's the wrong color.

Mistake Continuity: Inside the zeppelin when Indy and his father are talking at the table, notice the white handkerchief that moves all around the table.

Mistake Continuity: After Indiana and the Protector of the Grail escape the boat being chewed up, and the Protector reveals who he is to Indiana, watch his chest area... When Indiana asks "Who are you?" he is looking down at his chest (looking at the tattoo), and when we cut to Kasm you can tell he is holding his shirt open showing Indy the tattoo.. then when we cut to Indy and back to Kasm, his shirt is closed and he THEN opens it to show Indy the tattoo...

Mistake Other: Just a small detail. Watch the tank roll over the hill with the German officer holding onto the top. When the tank hits the ground, the turret pops off. The German soldier (the prop dummy) maintains its grasp on the turret and is pulled off with it. The sheer force of the crash would have easily blown a human body off the tank.

Mistake Visible crew/equipment: After the Venice boat chase scene, in the shot which takes place on the boat while it is being chopped up by the propeller, look at the top of the boat (opposite where Indy is holding Kasim.) You can see a series of round-shaped set lights reflecting in the boat.

Mistake Revealing: When Indiana Jones first enters the castle and speaks with the Nazi officer he is mouthing the Nazi's dialogue as the Nazi is speaking.

Mistake Revealing: When Donovan takes a drink from the false grail, he turns toward the camera and you can see the screw holding the base to the stem of the cup.

Mistake Continuity: When Sean Connery drops his lighter while trying to burn the ropes, the lid is flipped to the right. When he blows on it the lid then changes position slightly relative to the pattern on the rug, then when the rug catches fire the lid's suddenly flipped completely to the left.

Mistake Continuity: In the speedboat scene where Dr Schneider rescues Indy and Kasim from the boat that is chopped up by the propeller of a ship, she driving the speedboat with the steering wheel on the right-hand side. Seconds later as she drives the speedboat away, the steering wheel is on the left-hand side, obviously a flipped shot. When the speedboat slows down to allow Kasim to alight at the jetty, Indy is at the wheel which is now back on the right-hand side.

Mistake Continuity: At the airport, someone is reading a newspaper. Instead of the year 1938, the date of the newspaper is 1918 (a guess: I think this mistake happened because the art director wrote the date in a rush, stretching the "3" in a way it seemed a "1" when the people of "atrezzo" saw it).

Mistake Visible crew/equipment: When Indiana and the Protector of the Grail are fighting in the boat that is about to be chewed up by the giant screw/propeller, when the angle changes to the top point of view, you can see the rope pulling the front of the boat around to position the rear for destruction...

Mistake Visible crew/equipment: Before Jones Sr. scares the seagulls, the zoom-in on his face reflects some square bulky thing on his glasses. Not Indy. Not rocks. Surely a camera.

Mistake Continuity: As Indy swings through the window to rescue his father, he gets hit on the head by a vase. His hat is all crumpled and tipped quite far back, then in the very next shot his hat is neat and level.

Mistake Revealing: On the zeppelin, Indy's dad says, "You left just when you were becoming interesting..." Harrison Ford is mouthing Sean Connery's lines.

Mistake Continuity: WHen Indy is hanging off the side of the tank, his face becomes completely caked with dirt. After he gets back up on to the tank, his face is relatively clean.

Mistake Continuity: In the motorcycle chase scene after the escape from Brunwald castle, Indy's hair is noticeably longer than it was in the castle scenes. It returns to the shorter length when they stop at the crossroads.

Mistake Continuity: When the white robed men ambush the Nazis just after they blow up Salah's car, there's a shot over a Nazi's shoulder as he fires at one of the white robed guys running up a hill. The Nazi's machine gun is held straight out and doesn't move but the dust that flies from the squibs suggest that he fired as he moved the gun right to left which he did not do. The odd thing is that AFTER the squibs go off, the Nazi turns his gun to the left.

Mistake Continuity: In the beginning, when Indy is fighting aboard the Coronado ship, the very first time we see Indy in this scene (before we see him get punched), he is bleeding from the right side of his mouth. Throughout the remainder of the scene, he is bleeding from the left side of his mouth.

Mistake Continuity: When Indiana is showing Marcus the Grail Diary in his fathers home, he closes the book 4 times in a row without opening it - first 3 times inside the room, and then once on exit.

Mistake Continuity: In the scene in the castle, the weather outside is changing dramatically. When Indy enters his father's room, it is very dark and pouring rain. When in Elsa's room, the sunrise is shining brightly through the windows. When in the large hall, we can hear thunder again and see reflections of water running down the windows.

Mistake Continuity: Jones Sr. falls on the tank's chain and passes by the turret and by a round rusty thing. When the angle changes, a second before Indy saves him with the whip, you see Sr. has moved half a meter back instead of forward, and is passing by the same elements as before.

Mistake Revealing: When fire sweeps through the catacombs under the church, you can see that the "rats" are completely fake. At the far left of the screen (widescreen) you can see several fake rats just hanging on the wall and not moving at all. In the "special features" section on the DVD, Steven Spielberg admitted that the rats were fake - he couldn't bring himself to roast live ones so he could not make this scene appear realistic.

Mistake Factual error: As Indiana Jones opens the door to Dr. Jones' house, note the light switches just inside the front door. They are the kind developed in the late 1970s and still in use today, not consistent with the film's setting of 1938.

Mistake Continuity: In the temple in the Canyon of the Crescent Moon: After Harrison Ford cures Sean Connery by pouring water from the grail over him, Sean stands up with the grail in his hand. In the next shot, however, Alison Doody picks the grail up off the floor.

Mistake Continuity: When Indy takes the mail out of his pocket in the beginning of the film, he keeps the "Grail Diary" in his hand, but puts the letters down twice. Once before he opens the package and once after with the wrapper.

Mistake Continuity: In the catacombs underneath the library, when he find the "X" on the wall, he is shown ramming the wall twice to break through. The first time he rams it, however, the wall looks as if he had already had a few goes already.

Mistake Continuity: When the tank falls over the cliff and is rolling to a stop, you can see that it leaves a trail of paint behind it (a cheaply-made model, I guess).

Mistake Factual error: German Fighters shown in the film are in fact Pilatus P-2 (Swiss-made aircraft built after World War II). The appropriate fighter of the period would be the Messerschmitt 109.

Mistake Continuity: While in the Germans tank, the right side of Marcus's jacket is bent and wrinkled. A Frame later it looks perfect.

Mistake Continuity: On the tank a soldier jumps from Indy's right to attack him. The following angle shows the soldier coming from the front.

Mistake Continuity: While the German tank travels to the temple, it passes a German soldier. Inmediately after, a very wide angle shows the soldier has dissapeared.

Mistake Continuity: Indy and a soldier fall down on the tank, right where some bags are. From the next angle they are half a meter before the place where the bags are.

Mistake Factual error: In the motorbike chase after the rescue of Indy's dad from the castle, you can see how they pass the border between Austria and Germany. The guardhouse is waving the Austrian flag. Austria however ceased to exist as a sovereign state after the annexation by Germany in March 1938. Looking at the weather it rather seems to be spring than winter. Therefore there would no longer be a guard at the border nor a guard house waving the Austrian flag.

Mistake Continuity: When the military caravan with Brody is driving through the canyon towards the Joneses and Sallah, the sun is behind Brody (discernable by the shade). But when Indy is looking down on them - from the front - the sun is also behind him.

Mistake Factual error: During the motor boat chase through the canals of Venice, Dr. Schneider pilots the vessel between two ships, one identified as the John W. Mackay of London. Although the Mackay was commissioned in 1922, it was stationed at Halifax, Nova Scotia for service in the North Atlantic. It was deployed for the first time to the Mediterranean in 1942 - four years after the purported time of the movie.

Mistake Audio problem: In the boat fight scene, Kasim says something like "If you don't let me go, we both die" and Indy shouts "Then we'll die." But if you look at his lips, he's saying something else.

Mistake Revealing: When Indy is looking out at the gorge in front of him after spelling out God's name, there's a shot where he looks at the lion's head above him. You can see him from down the corridor, and you can notice as he touches the wall, it moves, showing it is a fake wall.

Mistake Revealing: When Indy is being chased on the motorboard the guy behind tries to shoot him with a machine gun. If you watch the machine gun carefully it you will see it starts to disintegrate in the guy's hands and the barrel drops off.

Mistake Visible crew/equipment: After Elsa gives Donavan the false Grail, he turns and you can see the reflection of the camera lens in the cup.

Mistake Factual error: When Indy is wearing the uniform of a German Artillery Officer, he is wearing the ribbon of the 1939 Iron Cross 2nd class in his buttonhole. The movie takes place in 1938.

Mistake Factual error: All through the film, SS-Standartenführer Vogel (Michael Byrne) is seen wearing the Iron Cross in second place beside his SA Military Sports Badge. This is totally wrong. As the Iron Cross is a Military Award, it would be worn over or to the right of any other badge on the pocket. Also presuming this is a 1914-18 Iron Cross, he should then be wearing a ribbon bar over his left pocket displaying his WW1 Honor Cross Ribbon along with long service ribbons, etc. American Law specifically allows the accurate wear of uniforms in movies (see http://uscode.house.gov/uscode-cgi/fastweb.exe?getdoc+uscview+t09t12+443+8++%28%29%20%20AN (subsection f)) and there is no reason to believe (without evidence) that German Law forbids the accurate portrayal of uniforms.

Mistake Continuity: In the temple in the Canyon of the Crescent Moon, Indiana Jones rushes to his father's aid with the Holy Grail filled with water. He is shown pouring every last drop onto his father's wound by turning the Grail upside down, yet another camera angle shows his father clutching the grail to his chest, and there's still a bit of water in it.

Mistake Continuity: When Indy takes four horses before battling with the tank, three are black and one is bay (brown with black legs, mane and tail). Sallah is riding a chestnut. When they ride to the Grail Temple, there are two black horses and two chestnuts. Where did the second chestnut come from?

Mistake Factual error: Jehovah is spelled Iehovah in Latin. However medieval languages (Latin or vernacular) had neither official rules nor the letter 'J'. It was not until the sixteenth century that the French humanist Pierre de la Ramée proposed to use the 'J' as a separate letter distinct from the 'I'. The 'J' could therefore not have been a trap at the time the test was constructed.

Mistake Continuity: When young Indy (River Phoenix) is advised by the fedora-topped henchman at the end of the chase, the cut he received while using the bullwhip in a previous scene changes angles.

Mistake Continuity: Indy and co. leave their horses a way from the steps to the temple, but when we cut to a closer shot they're very close to the entrance.

Mistake Continuity: When Indy and Elsa escape underwater, and surface from the tunnel, Indy's suit should be drenched, but it only has water stains. Then during the speedboat chase, their clothes are completely dry.

Mistake Audio problem: When Indiana is fighting one of the bad guys on top of the rhino's car on the train, the rhino sticks his horn straight between Indy's legs. Indy says, "Holy smokes" but if you look, he actually says something else.

Mistake Continuity: When the Nazi is strangling Indy with the chain, Indy looks down into the porthole of the tank and yells, "Dad!" Before he throws the gun down into the tank Indy's hat comes loose, but when the next shot is back on Indy, and he yells, "Dad! Dad, get out!" now his hat is back to normal.

Mistake Continuity: In the beginning of the boat chase two bullets hit the windscreen of Indy's boat. In the next shot the location of the holes has changed.

Mistake Continuity: While Indy and his father are talking in the zeppelin, the amount of flowers in the vase keeps changing between shots.

Mistake Continuity: When Marcus is taken to the temple by the Germans, the knot on his tie differs between a far shot and a close one.

Mistake Continuity: When Indy is looking up at the front of the Grail temple it is bathed in direct sunlight. Indy dismounts his horse in the shadow. However, in the shot just before dismounting, the cliffs behind Indy are also bathed in direct sunlight. That is impossible.

Mistake Continuity: When Young Indy is hoisted from the lion's carriage on the train, one of the baddies is holding a gun at him, in the next shot, the gun is down by his waist.

Mistake Continuity: Indy falls off the side of the tank and gets his shoulder strap caught on the gun - this should not be possible because his shoulder strap is underneath his jacket, as can be seen when he gets back up onto the tank.

Mistake Continuity: When Indy and Elsa are wading in the petroleum looking for the knight's tomb, Elsa unbuttons and opens her jacket and starts to take it off. In the next shot she opens her jacket and takes it off again.

Mistake Continuity: When Indy and his father are being pursued by German soldiers on bikes, right after they break through the barrier, the barrier guard comes out of his post and waves the pursuing German soldiers to slow down in the background. In the next shot he's no longer there, and the barrier's quite far away, then in the following shot he's back, and Indy's not so far from the barrier again.

Mistake Factual error: In various scenes, Dr. Elsa Schneider (Alison Doody) is wearing the M43 (Mountain Cap). That cap was introduced in 1943.

Mistake Continuity: The sky colour/condition changes between the shots of Indy and his father in line to get on board the Zeppelin and the scene just before. In one, it is cloudy, and in the other it is a clear blue.

Mistake Continuity: At the very end of the movie, when they all ride off through a tunnel, you can see all sorts of tassels hanging off each of the horses. When they reach the end of the tunnel and are riding off into the sun, there are no tassels at all apparent.

Mistake Continuity: In the boat chase, when the bad guys are using machine guns, in one shot we see Indy's boat in the middle of the canal. In the next shot (close-up) they are very close to a large pile of dirt (or wood chips) and in the next (wide) shot they are in the middle of the canal again.

Mistake Continuity: Indy throws the German officer out of the zeppelin window and Senior stands up to watch it all better. Then he sits down. Angle changes to a wider view and Senior is back on his feet, head almost out of the window, repeating the previous movements.

Mistake Continuity: In the Grail temple, when Sala says "Drop your guns please," he is holding a rifle. When Indy instructs his father a few seconds later to get up, Sala is not holding a rifle but has his hands crossed.

Mistake Continuity: After Sr. says "Let it go" as Indy is trying to get the grail, Indy is swinging and not being supported by the wall. The next camera angle shows him grasping the wall near his head. Switched back to Sr.'s view, he is again not holding the wall.

Mistake Continuity: In the scene in the temple after the two soldiers attempt to get past the first task, the first soldier is seen on his back holding his head beside him. When Indy attempts the first task, both dead soldiers are on their stomachs with no heads in sight.

Mistake Continuity: The Joneses take off in the Zeppeliner from Berlin. Shortly after takeoff they are over tall snowy mountains but there are no tall snowy mountains that close to Berlin.

Mistake Continuity: When the Zeppeliner turns back towards Berlin, it is over snow covered mountains. But when the Joneses escape in the biplane there is no sign of snow anywhere.

Mistake Continuity: Indy pours water from the grail into his father's mouth. Between two consecutive shots, the position of Indy's hand changes and the direction he pours changes 90 degrees.

Mistake Continuity: As Sallah pulls Dr. Jones senior off the tread of the tank, Indy lets go of his whip and turns towards the German colonel and they continue fighting face-to-face. You can see that Indy punches the colonel so that he loses his balance and stumbles backwards. A split second later, the colonel is standing behind Jones with his arm around Indy's neck. They did not have nearly enough time to so radically change positions.

Mistake Revealing: At the book signing in Berlin, the camera pans from right to left and the guard at the very end of the line of soldiers (to the left) has his left hand raised in military salute to Hitler. All the other soldiers have their right hands extended.

Mistake Continuity: When Indy is trying to hold Elsa and keep her from falling and she's trying to reach the Grail, you can see her hand coming out of her glove. In the first shot of her hand coming out, it comes almost all the way out. In the next two shots, her hand is about halfway out, then it slips out and she falls.

Mistake Continuity: When Indy and the protector of the Grail are in the boat about to be destroyed by the rotors, there are panels on the top of the boat that pop up and are destroyed when the boat is moving backwards into the rotors. In the next shot, they are intact, then in the next shot, they are destroyed again.

Mistake Continuity: The 109s that are animated are shaped like the original German fuel injected ones. The shots where it's a real plane show the modified one with a RR Merlin engine that gives it a weird square nose.

Mistake Continuity: In the library scene Indy discovers the "X" high up on the balcony. The X is green with a grey background.but when he breaks the tile to find the tomb the X has disappeard and the ground is a solid green.

Mistake Factual error: When Hitler signs the Grail Diary, in the screen and VHS release he signs Adolph, not Adolf. This mistake was corrected in the DVD release.

Mistake Other: When the Joneses are flying in the biplane, there is no wind at all. Their hats are not blown about by the wind as they should be in an open cockpit.

Mistake Revealing: Ths stunt man who saves Senior from the tank has a perfectly trimmed beard and a thinner face than Sallah's.

Mistake Continuity: The shape of the exploded canon barrel on the tank changes a lot in the different shots. Especially between the scene right after the explosion and the scene where Indy is hanging under the barrel.

Mistake Plot hole: In the tank scene, a German fires a bullet which hits the tank driver and he falls on to the controls, turning the tank. As almost everyone in the tank is dead/unconscious nobody would move the body so the tank should go round in circles.

Mistake Factual error: The film is set in 1938, yet the Jones' fly to Europe from America on a commercial airliner and attempt to leave Germany in a Zeppelin. Pan America's first commercial transatlantic airliner didn't take off until May of 1939, and commercial Zeppelin flights were suspended after the Hindenberg's crash in May of 1937.

Mistake Continuity: When we first see the knight guarding the Grail, his cloak is tied off with a braided rope, which hangs down on his right side. It stays this way until he says "You have chosen wisely," where the rope has somehow shifted to his left side. The rope goes back to normal when the knight waves goodbye at the end of the movie.

Mistake Revealing: After the Nazi tank drives off of the cliff and hits the bottom, the upper turret breaks off. As the turret rolls over, you can see there is no hole in the bottom, just in the top.

Mistake Continuity: When Indy meets Hitler, there is a shot over Indy's shoulder that shows his lips are slightly parted (relaxed). Cut to Indy's face and he closes his mouth tightly. In the very next shot, with no elapsed time, we see from Indy's shoulder again that Indy's mouth is relaxed as before.

Mistake Factual error: When Indy and his Dad are in Berlin, there is a big book burning going on. But the only book burning that was held in Berlin was May 10th in 1933 - 5 years before the Joneses visit it in search for the Holy Grail.

Mistake Continuity: During the boat chase/fight in Venice, the rear of Indy's boat gets shot up and starts smoking and spouting flames and the engine starts chopping. He leaps onto the pursuing boat, fights until that boat is destroyed in the rotors, then leaps with the Grail protector back onto his original boat with Elsa. The boat is now running perfectly.

Mistake Revealing: Just as Elsa leaps from one side of the precipice to the other as the Temple collapses, a rock rolls from right to left and hits her right in the head before bouncing off.

Mistake Revealing: The biplane sequence is obviously filmed in a studio close up. Despite the fact that they are miles high and swooping around at high speeds, neither Indy's hat, nor his Father's, blow off or even flap in the wind.

Mistake Factual error: The evil SS officer is addressed as "Herr Oberst" (Colonel) throughout the movie. In the SS, however, this rank was called "Standartenfuehrer".

Mistake Continuity: When the tank is about to go over the cliff you can see that there is no one sticking out of it, but in the next shot, Vogel can be seen sticking out and yelling.

Mistake Continuity: When Old Dr. Jones is holding Young Dr. Jones while he is reaching for the grail, watch Indy's left hand. In the shot from above, it is by his side, in the shot from below, he is holding the rock. It keeps switching from his side to the rock.

Mistake Continuity: When Senior is rescued from the tank with a whip around his ankle, the whip dissappears a split second later, when he is being mounted on the horse.

Mistake Continuity: When Indy enters the beach he steps on dry sand and then on the wet part. A frame later, in a wide angle, he is still stepping on dry sand.

Mistake Revealing: During the castle scene, when Indy is swinging outside, the sky is clear and blue and obviously not rainy, yet it is still raining. And yes, sometimes it can rain when it's sunny, but take a look - it is NOT rainy weather.

Mistake Continuity: The lion approaches Indy from the rear of the circus car and walks towards the center. Next shot, the lion approaches from the back of the car again.

Mistake Continuity: When Elsa is looking out over the Canyon of the Crescent Moon, the sun is low - it is close to sunset. However when Indy is riding through the very narrow canyon, the sunlight reaches the bottom. It is not the same time of day (or later the same day).

Mistake Revealing: When Indy and Kasiem are fighting on the front of the boat, the front of the boat doesn't move at all when the huge propeller hits the rear of the boat.

Mistake Revealing: When Kasim dies, his shirt is all bloody, but there are no holes in it. The bloodstains looks painted on.

Mistake Continuity: When Indiana is fighting on top of the tank, he kicks the periscope. It spins counter-clockwise, but the handles inside spin clockwise.

Mistake Revealing: The candles that adorn the wall in the Grail room do not appear to have a strong enough flame to put out the light they do that shines on the wall.  In fact, it looks like there are electrical lamps just behind the candle.

Mistake Continuity: When the Nazi Colonel discovers Henry Jones sen. aboard the zeppelin, Indy asks him for his flight ticket. In the first shot, Indy is standing right beside the colonel (the camera is behind the colonel and Indy comes in from the right), in the subsequent shot, Indy is standing behind the colonel.

Mistake Continuity: When Indy gives his father water from the grail to drink, the grail glows from inside, and the gold inside it is bright and even. But when Indy pours water over the wound, the grail is dark inside and there are dark patches in the gold. Obviously, they had to take the light that made the grail glow out so it wouldn't be seen when Indy pours the water over his father.

Mistake Continuity: When Indiana is drinking champagne with the businessman in the fancy apartment he holds his glass by the stem in one shot and then by the bowl in the next shot. As the conversation continues the glass goes up and down in Indiana's hand like a yo-yo.

Mistake Revealing: When Indy and Kasiem are fighting on the the boat as it is being chewed up by the giant propeller, the propeller is more than half way out of the water; if the ship was in dry-dock the smaller boats wouldn't be able to up to the larger ship, on the other hand if it had run aground it would not be running its engines.

Mistake Factual error: When Indiana's father uses the plane's gun, he shoots out the tail. This was not actually possible, as the planes had a safety mechanism to stop people doing this

Mistake Continuity: When the zeppelin is shown turning around, the biplane that the Joneses are about to escape in is nowhere to be seen.

Mistake Continuity: At the very end there is a large near circular blood stain on the left sleeve of Sean Connery's shirt. When they ride off, the stain has disappeared completely.

Mistake Continuity: When Indy has crashed into the lion's house on the train, he takes the whip in his left hand. In the next shot after seeing the lion you can see the whip is in Indy's right hand just before he hits the lion and makes his chin bleed.

Mistake Other: In the scene with the tanks, Indy rides up beside one with a rock. Watch the gun closely. The end of the one that he is supposed to shove the rock into is wobbling inconsistantly with the rest of the gun, or the tank for that matter.

Mistake Continuity: In the beginning where Indy is young, he fights some guys on that zoo train. When he's on the crate with the rhino in it, the background changes in each shot. Once there are trees behind and a split of a second later there are rocks, once there's a cliff and once a plain, and it all changes in splits of seconds as they change shots.

Mistake Continuity: When Indy is rescuing his father from Brunwald castle, he uses his bullwhip to smash through the window of the room his father is kept in...but in the time it took to jump into the room and get smashed over the head by his father, the bullwhip he used would have lost lots of its momentum and it wouldn't be waiting for him to grab it and use it later on the movie.

Mistake Factual error: When Hitler signs the diary, he writes in a modern way of writing. But in the late 30s there was a different style of writing called "Suetterlin". The letters looked quite different from nowadays.

Mistake Continuity: When they are first looking over the cliff at the tank, Sean Connery's beard is quite full, and in a shot moments later, still looking off the cliff, it has been trimmed.

Mistake Continuity: The back of the boat gets chewed up by the prop, in the same place twice.

Mistake Revealing: When the VW gets stuck on the front of the tank and is shot off, you can see that the car has no engine, no body in the car, and no clutch. Also, when the car is blown away you can see a wire used for the stunt fall right in front of the camera.

Mistake Continuity: During the big chase scene leading up to the three challenges, Indy uses his gun and begins to takes the high road on his horse.  Harrison Ford couldn't seem to find the holster for his gun, so you can see his holding the gun by his side until the scene changes.
