Halloween II (1981) - 45 mistakes

Other: In the beginning of Halloween 2, the scene where Dr. Loomis shoots Michael Myers repeatedly until he falls off the balcony is reenacted to reflect the events of the original Halloween. If you look carefully, you can see that the stuntman portraying Michael is actually walking backwards on a table until he haplessly falls off the balcony.

Continuity: In the scene where Marion is calling for help on the police car's 2-way radio, she speaks, "Marion Chambers with Doctor Loomis at the clinic; He's here." Right after that, the policeman on the other end of the radio starts to talk. However, Marion never lets go of the "talk" button on the radio's microphone, until the middle of the policeman's response to her request. You can't listen and receive anything on the radio while the button on the mic is pressed.

Factual error: At the end of the film where the blinded Michael is swinging his scalpel aimlessly, it makes loud "swooshing" sounds. This is pure fantasy. I have personally mimicked what Michael did using similar small scalpels and even larger knives without almost no sound when swinging them.

Continuity: After Jimmy slips in Ms. Alves' blood, his position changes between the side camera shot and the above camera shot.

Continuity: At the end of the first Halloween, Loomis fires audible six shots from his gun (whether or not they all hit Michael is irrelevant). However, at the beginning of Halloween II, Loomis' gun can be heard firing off SEVEN shots.

Continuity: In the credits, Michael Myers is said to be 23. However, the fact that he is supposed to be 21 in both films (because #2 took place directly after the first) is stated in both movies.

Continuity: Dr. Loomis shoots out the passenger window of the marshal's car, but it seems to be intact in later scenes, like when the woman is outside using the radio calling for help.

Continuity: Jimmy walks across a huge puddle of blood before finding Mrs Alves dead on the stretcher. When he slips and is unconscious, you can't see any footprints, not even near the door where he came in.

Continuity: At the very end of the first Halloween, Loomis' first shot hits Michael while he is struggling with Laurie. A few seconds later, he is staring down Loomis and breathing very heavily. At the beginning of Halloween II, the scene is reenacted to reflect the ending of the first movie, but here you cannot hear Michael breathing at all after being struck by Loomis' first shot.

Visible crew/equipment: On the Goodtimes DVD release of Halloween 2, just after Dr. Loomis blows up the hospital room the camera switches to the hallway where Laurie is running away. The explosion comes through the hallway and you can see the right side of the hallway shaking - this shows that the wall is a studio set wall. You can also see wires behind it and the wooden supports that are holding it up.

Continuity: When Loomis thinks he sees Michael but it is actually a drunk Ben Tramer in a mask, he runs after Tramer and pulls his gun. Brackett sees this and runs out of his patrol car, slams the door, and stops Loomis before Loomis gets off a shot. A few seconds later though, the car door is now open in the background.

Continuity: The police claim the Myers house is at "45 Lampkin Lane." The address on the front porch clearly displays the number 709.

Revealing: When Janet spins the dead Dr. Mixter's chair around, you can see his right hand flinch.

Continuity: When Annie's dead body is rolled out on the stretcher her dad pulls the sheet back and revealing her slit throat. After a brief cut to him, when it cuts back to Annie the sheet covers her throat.

Continuity: When Michael steals Mrs. Elrod's knife from her kitchen, about 6-7 drops of blood go onto the cutting board, and none are on the lunch meat she is using. When she comes back and notices the blood, however, now there are just about maybe 2-3 little smears of blood and one drop on the lunch meat.

Revealing: When Doctor Loomis touches the blood in the beginning, you can see a bit of material (it appears to be plastic) sticking to his fingers as he pulls them up from the grass. It appears as though it was somehow involved in the effect of him touching the blood. (Perhaps to keep it from soaking into the ground?).

Factual error: The films happenings are supposed to take place on Halloween of 1978, but the ambulance has rectangular headlights, which were not introduced on full-size Ford vans until the 1980 model year.

Audio problem: In the climactic scene in the operating room, Laurie says "Michael, stop!" before shooting him, but her mouth doesn't seem to move.

Plot hole: Watch the scene where the drunk Ben Tramer (wearing a similar Michael Myers mask) was hit by the speeding cop car and then pinned against the parked van before burning. Even taking out the equation of accidentally hitting Ben Tramer, what was the cop car doing speeding at that rate of speed, head on towards a parked van on a side street? Remember, we only hear screeching breaks AFTER the car hits Tramer, and we never see the cop car swerve or any of that to miss hitting the van. Seems that even if Tramer hadn't been there, the cop car was sure to barge head on right into that van.

Continuity: Notice how Michael is taking/reacting to being hit by the bullets at the conclusion of the first Halloween - you see him writhe in pain, his hand shake and grab near his side, and his body contort and literally twist before falling off the balcony - a believable shooting death scene. When the scene was re-enacted at the beginning of part II, all Michael does is lazily walk backwards and fall off.

Continuity: In the original film, the pumpkin at the Wallace's house was very small and fat, but in this film (which takes place the same night) you can see when all the cops and reporters are at the house that the pumpkin changed in size and the face is different as well.

Continuity: When nurse Karen first enters the hospital and changes into her uniform, she's clearly shown putting on a dark belt (either black or brown). However, in her next scene with Mrs. Alves, as well as the scene where she's tricked into entering the hospital room to fool around with Bud, the belt is white.

Continuity: When Michael falls off the balcony, he falls into some green grass and a garden is next to him. Yet in the original "Halloween", Michael falls onto the ground with barely any grass around him, just a dirt patch and no garden in sight. (This is explained because they reshot the ending to "Halloween" 1.).

Continuity: When Laurie leaves the hospital, she exits out of the hospital doors. Somehow the doors stay open. Later on in the far away shot, the doors are closed, then they are open again in the next shot.

Factual error: The story is supposed to take place on Halloween 1978, but some of the clothing and hairstyles have noticeable characteristics associated with the early 1980's; particularly those of Alice, Karen, and Darcy.

Continuity: When Bud goes to check on how hot the water is, he rubs condensation off the gauges, but there wasn't anything on them to begin with.

Continuity: Near the film's climax, the marshall is shown walking down a hallway by a soda machine and reacts to Laurie's screaming. He then makes a turn around to go see what was up. Several seconds (and many screams) later, Michael crashes through the door and the marshall is still running down the hallway by the same soda machine.

Factual error: The film takes place in Illinois on Halloween, October 31st, but you'd never know it by looking at the colors of the trees, they all have green leaves and there is almost no sign of Fall or ground leaves.

Factual error: When Michael corners Laurie in the elevator, the door shuts just in time and slams on his hand and just keeps closing, and Michael pulls away. Elevators have rubber guards that would cause the door to open again if someone's hand would get caught in the closing.

Continuity: During the scene where Jimmy the paramedic finds Ms. Alves in the major surgery room on a stretcher with the blood completely drained from her body, while turning to walk out, he slips and falls back first in the pool of blood. Later, he finds his way to his car where Laurie had been hiding and attempts to get help. If you look closely, the back of his shirt is still the same, but has no blood on it.

Continuity: When Pamela Susan Shoop is being killed by Michael in the spa, the towel is tied arround her upper chest, then the towel falls down, revealing her breasts. In the next shot a split second later the towel is back up at he upper chest.

Continuity: In the scene where the boys ask Mr. Hunt about Ben Tramer, Mr. Hunt says that "it's just a little past 11." Following this up in the next scene Bud lures Karen into the room to kiss her and wish her Happy Halloween. During this scene, as Bud reaches up to kiss Karen, his watch is clearly visible and shows the time as 1:00.

Factual error: The balcony from which Michael Myers falls from in Halloween 2 is different than the original Halloween. You can clearly see a canopy over-hanging the balcony in the original, but in Halloween 2 the canopy is missing. It appears that Michael's body falls and lands in two completely different areas between the two movies.

Continuity: When Michael stabs Nurse Jill in the back with the scalpel and lifts her off the ground, her shoes fall to the floor. A few seconds later, they are rearranged differently on the floor.

Continuity: At the beginning of the movie, the front door lights on the Doyle house are on, then off, then on again in just a few different shots.

Continuity: In the first scene when Loomis has just shot Michael. In first film, Loomis looks over the balcony and see that he is gone, but now he goes out and discovers that he is gone.

Continuity: After the explosion and Michael is walking on fire, you'll notice he is right next to the burning stretcher. Then they cut to a scene of Laurie hiding behind a water fountain. In the next scene of Michael, he is now about 8 feet behind the stretcher walking towards her again.

Continuity: Towards the end of the film, when Dr. Loomis finally finds out Michael is at the hospital and orders the trooper's car to turn around. As the car turns around, the lighting outside appears to be pre-dawn however they arrive at hospital and it is still pitch black.

Continuity: When Michael stabs Loomis with the scalpel, Loomis drops his gun, yet when the camera changes we see Loomis fall back with the gun still in his hands.

Continuity: When Michael walks into the old couple's house, NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD is showing on the television. At that point, the film is just beginning, with Barbara and Johnny first pulling up to the cemetery. Much later in the film, the security guard is also watching NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD on television, and it's the scene where the cemetery zombie is attacking Barbara in her car. This is no more than ten minutes later in NOTLD, yet it's way more than ten minutes later in the evening of HALLOWEEN II.

Continuity: At the end of the film, when Michael Myers is on fire walking out of the room in the hospital towards Laurie one can see that he is wearing gloves (probably so the actor will not be burned), but during the course of the entire movie, Michael Myers' hands are always visible.

Continuity: When Annie's body gets wheeled out of the house and her father closes her eyes, her lids blink even though she should be dead.

Continuity: Michael comes into Laurie's room and stabs at her bed, only to find pillows had been placed there. He then walks out and leaves the door open. When Jill returns from checking on a patient, the door is now closed and she opens it.

Continuity: After getting out of the car, Laurie is on the ground beside Jimmy's car outside the hospital when she sees the Marshall's car pull up. When Loomis tells the Marshall he ought to handcuff him to the wheel, if you look, Jimmy's car is still visible in the distance, but Laurie is not in that shot.

Continuity: The flashing lights on the front of Bud and Jimmy's ambulance change places as they pull into the hospital driveway. They go from either the side of the hood to the front of the bumper.
