Trivia

In the first visit to Tia Dalma's House, there are references to Barbossa showing up for the ending. While Will is talking, you can see Jack Sparrow pick up and look at Barbossa's hat. When the monkey jumps from its cage, you can see him run into the other room and jump on a pair of boots in bed, which belong to Barbossa as well we later see. See more...

Mistake Continuity: When the huge water wheel rolls to the beach and falls on its side, it falls with the broken, wide, wood side of the axle facing up. However, as Will and Norrington climb out, inexplicably it's the slim side of the water wheel's axle that is now facing up. But in a following shot, it is the other way round again.

Mistake Continuity: When the water wheel begins to roll, with Norrington and Will atop and then snatches up Jack, its blades (buckets on the outside rim) and two sides of the axle face a specific direction as it gains speed. Now compare the following two shots, as the water wheel rolls away from the camera: When the wheel rolls, just as Jack falls out, after hitting his head on the bar. Then later on the beach, as Elizabeth watches, just as the wheel rolls and falls over in the close-up, the wheel is actually rolling in the opposite direction - just note its blades. Also note the bizarre change of its axle's wide and narrow sides.

Mistake Plot hole: There are six metal bars mounted around the circumference of the water wheel's axle. In the wheel's interior, when Jack frees himself he lands on his feet, begins to run and promptly hits his head on one of those axle bars, then falls out. Moments later, when Jack returns and runs in the wheel, he is considerably shorter (way more than a foot) than all six spinning axle bars, which would make that previous shot impossible, however humorous it is.

Mistake Continuity: When Jack knocks the pirate's detachable head off with the coconut, the chest drops with the lock facing the ground and the lid's two hinges facing up. However, when Jack reaches the chest, it is the lock's side actually facing up now, before he turns the chest upright - with the lock facing him.

Mistake Continuity: When Governor Swann and Will go to see Elizabeth where she is imprisoned, Will and Elizabeth hold hands through the square bars of the cell. Their hands are actually in different openings depending on the shot.

Mistake Plot hole: The rope is wound round Jack's body and the pole at his back numerous times. When Shishka-Jack falls, the pole gets jammed between the cliffs, but the pole does not break and the rope does not tear. The rope that goes round the pole numerous times simply disappears, leaving the rope intact around only Jack's body in order for Jack to twirl and unravel as he falls. This is impossible, and done for the humor.

Mistake Continuity: During the Kraken attack on the Pearl, Jack sneaks away in the long boat at the Pearl's port side. However, when Elizabeth walks over to the deck rail, sees Jack and says, "Oh, you coward!" she is actually standing at the Pearl's starboard side, and it would be quite impossible to see Jack. Take note of the rail rigging and mast.

Mistake Continuity: At Tia Dalma's, when Jack says, "Look, an undead monkey," and shoots the monkey, the flame of the candle above the monkey is extinguished from the gunfire. However, in the next shot that candle is burning brightly.

Mistake Continuity: When Jack sneaks away on the long boat, during the Kraken attack on the Pearl, there is a close-up of Jack looking back at the land, then picking up and dramatically opening the compass. However, in the previous shot showing the Pearl, the compass is actually seen at the bottom of the shot - already being held open.

Mistake Continuity: When Pintel, Ragetti and the dog are aboard the row boat, extra rowlocks (wooden posts attached to the gunwale) appear behind Pintel when the dog jumps overboard, and then they disappear when the wave flips them over.

Mistake Continuity: When paprika-seasoned Jack is tied and bound, hanging over the wood pile, the soles and heels on his boots are visible. Later, when Jack is shackled and then faces the kracken, the heels are higher - actually twice the height. Also, note the boots when he reaches the top of the building with Will and Norrington.

Mistake Continuity: When Elizabeth is playing puppeteer with her wedding dress in order to get to Tortuga, she sweeps the dress past the captain's widows first, in order to get their attention. No way could she have done this from the mast on which she was standing. One, the distance between her position and the area through which the dress passed by were too far. Two, even if the were close enough, the wind was blowing at least partially against their sails, and the dress would have been blown closer to the windows. Three, Even if she just stood on the deck above the captain's windows, she would not have had enough time to move from that position to the mast considering that the men in the captain's quarters rushed out to see the "spirit."

Mistake Deliberate "mistake": When Will is bound and brought before "Chief" Jack, Will says, "The compass!" and there is a close-up of the compass, as it hangs to the right of the long striped cloth. However, in all other shots the compass hangs to the left of the red and white striped cloth. This is a flipped shot - note the large buckles.

Mistake Visible crew/equipment: At Tia Dalma's, two large white rectangles - either a light fixture or the reflector screen - are reflected in the glass bottle, which hangs beside Jack's head.

Mistake Continuity: The cloth with the key drawing changes greatly throughout the film. This includes the actual drawing itself, the tears on the cloth, shape of the cloth, etc.

Mistake Continuity: After Jack opens the lid of the large chest, there is a close-up of the filled interior, which lies nearly a foot below the top edge of the large chest, with the smaller inner chest well hidden below. However, in the next shot the lid of the smaller inner chest is way up higher, actually level with the top edge of the large chest - before Jack lifts it.

Mistake Deliberate "mistake": After Jack is hung up over the kindling, to be "roasted and eaten", a cannibal carries a torch across the bridge and shouts. In the cannibal's close-up, the painted black/white sticks pierce his left ear, whereas in the previous and following shots the sticks actually pierce his right ear. The close-up is a flipped shot for continuity of face position.

Mistake Continuity: On the Dutchman, when Jones holds out the whip, for Bill Turner to use on Will, the whip's direction flips between shots, it faces the opposite way when Bill grabs it.

Mistake Continuity: Whilst Elizabeth puppeteers her wedding dress, in the close-up Captain Bellamy stands up and says, "Over there," as he points with his left arm extended. However, in the next overhead shot, it is his right arm that is extended as he points.

Mistake Continuity: When the cannibal women throw fruit at Jack, the first fruit skewered is the papaya, which ends up near Jack's face, in the close-up. After Jack vaults to the other cliff-top, when the papaya slides towards his face, the fruit is completely different, and the position of its hole differs. Additionally, the watermelon also differs (note stripes) between shots, as do other skewered fruit.

Mistake Continuity: In the scene early on in the movie, where Lord Beckett and Elizabeth are talking, behind Lord Beckett you can see a man sitting on a seat suspended in the air by two ropes, apparently working on a ship or something of that nature. Then, the camera cuts to Elizabeth and when it cuts back to Beckett, the man in the background is gone, and the seat or ropes are no longer there either.

Mistake Continuity: Johnny Depp's wig changes subtly throughout the film. Most of the time he has many dread locks. Other times, he has many fewer dreads and more stringy curly pieces.

Mistake Continuity: When Elizabeth walks over to the deck rail and notices Jack sneaking away in the long boat, her leather strap hangs from her left shoulder to her right hip, whereas in all other shots she wears it the opposite way. This is not a flipped shot - note Cotton's shirt tear.

Mistake Continuity: When Jack, who is tied up, skewers the coconut in the wide shot the coconut is vertical. However, in the close-up of the coconut, before he spins around, the coconut is horizontal.

Mistake Continuity: After Beckett tells Will to get the compass, in the next shot of Jack aboard the Pearl, as he plots the map, things on the table - such as the compass, change position between shots.

Mistake Continuity: After Will slides down the sail, just as he grabs hold of the mast line, the cut sail is only tied down at its corners. After he puts the knife in his mouth, the sail is also tied down directly under the cut.

Mistake Continuity: When Norrington, Jack and Will bang away at each other on the beach, in the shot facing Elizabeth as she puts her hat back on, behind her Ragetti runs ahead of Pintel (3-4 ft) as they steal the chest. Next shot, it is Pintel in the lead as they run off.

Mistake Continuity: When the cannibal walks across the bridge and sees some prisoners fall to their death and the others escaping, there is a long stick, which has a black design on it, threaded through his lip. When he arrives back at Jack's roasting, the stick's design is very different.

Mistake Revealing: When Will, Gibbs, and the other pirates climb up the cliff's 90ş rockface, their hair, jewelry, etc do not reflect the gravity which would naturally affect them, despite any wind.

Mistake Revealing: when Pintel is running up to Ragetti during Elizabeth's rant on Isle Cruses, you can see the path in the sand where Pintel has run up in previous takes.

Mistake Continuity: After Jack gets slimed by the Kraken, he says "hello beastie" and makes his last stand. When he poses with his sword towards the creature he is clean again even though there was slime all over his clothes and hair in the previous shot.

Mistake Continuity: Aboard the Pearl, when Jack goes in search of rum, he sees Bootstrap and places the lantern down with the metal clasp at the center - note the handle. However, when Bootstrap says, "I already told you Jack, time's up," the clasp is actually moved to the side - note the handle.

Mistake Continuity: When Elizabeth enters the carriage, after her father rescues her from prison, the bottom of her dress is quite filthy. However, when she runs out of Beckett's office, it is much cleaner.

Mistake Continuity: When Will hangs with his hands bound, the ruffle on his shirt cuff goes up and down and up again.

Mistake Continuity: When Elizabeth sits on deck and points out the burning word Tortuga, the wound lines beside her change position between the shot facing her and the next shot, behind her.

Mistake Continuity: During the scene in which the Black Pearl endures a strong storm and heavy rainfall, Captain Jack Sparrow's bandanna is soaking wet. In subsequent scenes, only moments from the storm, his bandanna is completely dry.

Mistake Continuity: When Beckett says, "A marriage interrupted," he writes "Lord" as he signs the Letter of Marque, but when he places his seal, his handwriting differs.

Mistake Revealing: Will slides down the sail, aided by the knife. At the start of the next shot, when he grabs hold of the mast line, the cut in the sail runs the the bottom edge of the sail, yet, Will is actually seen falling from the top of this shot - way above the end of that knife cut.

Mistake Continuity: After the Flying Dutchman's attack on the Pearl, when the Kraken attacks the Pearl, one of its tentacles comes through the captain's stateroom stern windows, which has considerable damage - notably the left window and part of the wall are completely gone. When Gibbs says, "Abandon ship or abandon hope," the stern windows are actually more intact - especially the left window/wall.

Mistake Continuity: Throughout the film, Will's hair continually changes position between shots, such as hanging loose, then behind his ear, and back again, or vice versa; for example, when he holds Elizabeth's dress aboard the "bride spirit" ship.

Mistake Visible crew/equipment: When Jack opens the compass on the deck, two round lights are reflected on the lid. They are obviously stage lights, since from another point of view neither the sun nor any type of light is seen.

Mistake Continuity: Aboard the Pearl, after Will orders the rum to be loaded, and Gibbs responds, "Aye, the rum too," the cloth round Gibbs's neck has the loop to his right, but in previous and following shots it's actually "tied" round his neck the opposite way, with the loop to his left.

Mistake Continuity: When Elizabeth points the gun at Cutler Beckett, a certain amount of her hair is down, but more hair is pulled up in following shots.

Mistake Continuity: When Jack blasts the bird pecking on the coffin, the wood debris differs between shots. As his gun-toting hand still pokes through the hole, there is attached wood debris sticking up 90° at the sides of the hole that was not in the previous shot.

Mistake Continuity: After the cage of bones falls into the water, Cotton reaches up out of the water to open the broken cage, but in the next shot he is still under the water, behind Marty.

Mistake Continuity: When Will hangs upside down, as he shouts, "Who wants it? I could do this all day!" his necklace dangles freely, beside his face. However, when Will is shot by the dart, the necklace is mostly tucked into his shirt.

Mistake Continuity: When Elizabeth, Jack and Gibbs speak on deck about Beckett wanting the chest, the flask's black strap repeatedly jumps over and under the cloth round Gibb's neck.

Mistake Continuity: In the row boat, on their way to Tia Dalma's, when Gibbs discusses the Kraken, the large tear at his shoulder is visible, as are other imperfections on the tattered vest. Later, the tear disappears and other things change as well.

Mistake Continuity: When Cutler Beckett shows Will the Letter of Marque, the seal beside King George's signature is seen. Later, while Elizabeth points the gun at Beckett, he places his own seal below, and the shape of King George's seal is entirely different now.

Mistake Plot hole: In a close-up, just as Jack is freed from the hole in the water wheel, we see the axle’s circular wood frame with its spinning bars, above and behind him, as he runs the wheel. At the end of this close-up, Jack’s happy facial expression gives way to a look of dread, as he supposedly sees an approaching metal bar about to make contact with his face. This is impossible, since the bars are spinning behind him. After a close-up of the actual bar, in the next shot as Jack’s face makes contact, he stands farther back and is now at the center of the circular wood frame, so as to be in perfect alignment with those spinning bars.

Mistake Continuity: After Will challenges Jones he is given five dice - one being considerably smaller than the other four. However, when Will looks under his cup during the game, all five dice are of similar size.

Mistake Audio problem: Before the Tortuga bar brawl the musicians are shown playing their instruments. When Elizabeth says, "I just wanted to have the pleasure of doing that myself," it is quiet in the bar, but the violinist is seen happily playing directly behind her and no sound is heard.

Mistake Continuity: When Jack beheads the pirate and then when the pirate body searches for its head as Jack unlocks the chest, the plant debris appear and disappear in Jack's hair.

Mistake Continuity: When we first see Jack as the "god," the multiple eyes painted on his face are sharp and defined. In the brief second shot, where we see the left side of his face, they appear worn and blurred. The third shot shows them sharp and clear again.

Mistake Continuity: On the Pearl, after Elizabeth tells Norrington that she trusts Jack, when Norrington walks away from the deck rail, in the shots facing Elizabeth, the pretty cumulus clouds behind her change back and forth between shots.

Mistake Continuity: When Elizabeth, Will and the rest watch from the long boat, as the Kraken takes down the Pearl with Jack aboard, in the shot facing the Pearl Cotton sits directly behind Will, but in the shot facing the long boat Pintel sits behind Will.

Mistake Continuity: At Tia Dalma's, the key cloth is placed on the table, and in following shots the things such as the cloth, bones and jewelry scattered on the table change position.

Mistake Factual error: The helmsmen on the ships always spin the wheel in the direction that they wish to turn. However, in the days of sail the wheel had to be spun in the opposite direction from the direction of turn.

Mistake Continuity: When Elizabeth questions Jack about his “broken” compass as they stand on deck, her left arm rests on the deck rail and changes position back and forth between shots.

Mistake Continuity: When Jack is trying to get the handcuff off his hand at the end of the movie, he has all of his rings turned inward to make it easier to get it off. But when the shot changes into a wide shot, as he pulls off the handcuffs, all of his rings are facing the right way.

Mistake Continuity: In the scene where Will visits Elizabeth in jail, she is rubbing his chin in most of the shots but in one shot her hand is suddenly down and then it goes back up again in the next shot.

Mistake Continuity: When Jack shoots a hole in the casket killing the bird, the amount of feathers on the casket differ between the shots.

Mistake Revealing: The crow pecking on the floating coffin Jack is hiding in has a modern-day identification band on its leg.

Mistake Continuity: After Mr. Mercer kills Governor Swann's Captain friend, he heads for the carriage to search for Elizabeth. The candle in the carriage lantern differs between shots - note the height and melted wax.

Mistake Continuity: Aboard the "spirit bride" ship, when Captain Bellamy complains about port tariffs, he places two small papers on the desk (atop the map) in the close-up, yet there is only one in the next shot, as he adds more papers.

Mistake Revealing: When Will and Norrington duel on the roof, in the wide shots the face of Will's stunt double is rather obvious.

Mistake Continuity: When they dig up the chest and Will arrives, there are long shadows. Yet, when Jack, Will and Norrington duel, they have very short shadows directly beneath them. The large chest's shadow changes as well.

Mistake Revealing: In the first scene where we see Elizabeth talking to Jack on the deck of the ship, you can tell that Elizabeth is wearing a wig. When she turns to Jack, the wind blows her hair over the front of her shoulders, and you see her real (very short) hair on the back of head. When it cuts back to an over the shoulder shot of her, her wig is now covering her real hair.

Mistake Continuity: As Will climbs up the mountain in the bone cage, notice his crisply-white shirt. It's perfectly clean after swimming in the ocean, walking through the jungle, and then being dragged on the ground, dangling by one leg.

Mistake Continuity: After the monkey throws Jack's hat overboard, Gibbs, Marty, Cotton, et al, run to look over the deck rail, when Gibbs shouts, "Jack's hat!" However, in the next shot it's not until Gibbs turns and shouts, "Clearabout!" that Marty, Cotton and the rest actually reach the deck rail.

Mistake Continuity: When Jack and Gibbs walk on the dock towards the Pearl, they pass a couple kissing, as Elizabeth calls out to Jack. In the following shot, that couple is much farther (about 10 ft) up the dock, away from the Pearl - note the other ship's exterior, behind them.

Mistake Continuity: After Jack takes the heart out of the chest he hurriedly closes its lid, the locks engage, and the key's end remains in the horizontal position when Jack runs off. However, when Pintel and Ragetti grab the chest the key's circular end is now vertical - the key does not turn itself.

Mistake Factual error: At the bar in Tortuga, one of the three musicians is seen playing the 'concertina', but it was not invented yet. Sir Charles Wheatstone, an English physicist (b.1802 - d.1875), invented the 'concertina' around the mid 1800's. The 'concertina' is a small musical instrument like an accordion, with bellows and keys.

Mistake Continuity: When Jack speaks with Elizabeth on the dock and asks, "Are you certain? Is that what you want most?" the kohl very noticeably does not go around his entire left eye in this close-up, but, in previous and following shots it does.

Mistake Continuity: When Elizabeth demands, "What are the charges?" the guard is just putting the shackle on her left wrist, with the right off as well. However, in the previous shot the left shackle is already on and the right is being put on.

Mistake Continuity: Aboard the Pearl, when Gibbs asks, "For the love of mother and child, Jack, what's coming after us?" as he walks towards Jack, the knot of his neck scarf is on his white shirt at his back. In the next shot, it is around his neck at the front.

Mistake Revealing: When Jack, Elizabeth, Norrington and the crew are sailing to meet the Dutchmen, you can see the water is moving past the Pearl, showing the Pearl in motion on the water. There is then one shot of Elizabeth and the sea behind her is completely still and not moving past the Pearl. Camera cuts and again the sea is moving past the Pearl.

Mistake Continuity: When Will, Gibbs and the rest are in the ball cage and escaping the cannibals, they roll down a hill and hit a tree, which they then roll up. This would be impossible unless the weight is evenly balanced throughout the ball completely.

Mistake Continuity: When Elizabeth, Pintel and Ragetti fight Jones's crew, Ragetti tosses Elizabeth the sword which she catches in her left hand, as she holds another sword in her right hand. She then tosses the sword from her right hand to Pintel, as she holds the other sword in her left hand. Next shot, when Pintel catches it, the sword in her left hand has disappeared – note her empty open hand, only to reappear in the next shot.

Mistake Revealing: When the fruit from Jack's "kebob" land next to him, they gently plop to the ground intact, despite having fallen from a great height. Although Jack also lands intact, his fall was cushioned by a number of obstacles—the multiple wooden bridges, the bamboo pole catching between the rocks, the unwinding rope, etc. With the exception of the pineapples, the already-damaged fruits (from being speared) are too thin-skinned or the rinds too brittle to have survived an impact from the height, speed, and angle shown. These are the SAME fruits (papayas, mangos, and melons) that easily splattered into pulp when thrown at Jack by the native women with far less force, a slower speed, and at a close range.

Mistake Continuity: In the close-up of Elizabeth, as she watches Jack sneak away in the long boat, there is no sign of either Marty or Cotton. In the next shot, when the Kraken causes the ship to shake, Cotton and Marty (who sits on the beam) suddenly appear.

Mistake Visible crew/equipment: After Will is captured, when Jack first opens his make-up laden eyes, the white square reflections of the reflector shield is visible in his eyes; as it is in other characters' close-ups as well.

Mistake Continuity: When Gibbs interviews potential crewmen in the Tortuga bar, things on the table change position between shots, and the height of the three candles differ as well.

Mistake Audio problem: Just as the waterwheel begins to roll away from the mill, watch Will and Norrington on top of it - the sounds of their swords clashing doesn't synch up with their actions.

Mistake Continuity: When Will Turner is to be given the lashes by his father, his shirt is torn up the back, with only the collar remaining intact on the back of his neck. In subsequent shots, the shirt is completely off his neck, back and shoulders, even as seen from the front. After his lashes are completed, his shirt is shrugged back on, with the neck in the back intact again.

Mistake Continuity: In the scene when Captain Sparrow, Elizabeth, and Norrington dig up the chest and open it, we can see that there are documents filling the chest all the way to the top. The shot changes, and now you can see that there are fewer documents in the chest, even though they haven't started pulling them out yet.

Mistake Continuity: Right after James, Jack, and Will engage in sword fighting, Elizabeth runs after them shouting and angry. As she looks at them initially, the background behind them is tropical forest and mountains. The scene cuts back to Elizabeth, then returns to the fighting men but the background for the rest of the scene is ocean and beach, with no mountains to be seen.

Mistake Continuity: After Captain Bellamy tells Will it's strange to come upon a long boat in open waters, he asks, "And what are we running from?" as he stands with his hands behind his back, between two sailors. Yet, in the next shot from behind, Bellamy stands at the end with his arm down, but next shot he's back to the original position.

Mistake Continuity: When Cutler Beckett plays with Norrington's sword, as he begins to speak with Governor Swann, the step ladder is seen to Beckett's right - note its shadow on the wall map. The ladder changes position twice in the following shots.

Mistake Continuity: When Jack finds the silver spice can inside the hut, the word "paprika" is written in clean white lettering. But once he's outside, confronted by the cannibals, the word is suddenly covered in reddish powder - before he spices himself up.

Mistake Continuity: When Cutler Beckett enters his office and places the lantern on the desk, the handle is down. However, when Elizabeth walks out of the shadows, the lantern's handle is upright, then down again in a later shot.

Mistake Continuity: Just before he becomes Shishka-Jack, the rope wound around Jack’s arms is higher up at his shoulders, yet it is lower and taut in following shots.

Mistake Continuity: Right after the monkey knocks Jack's hat off, there is a shot of the monkey on the rigging. The moonlight is shining on him, but he looks completely normal. Shouldn't he be cursed? It's not dawn, the next shot is a time lapse, as evidenced by the fact that the Pearl had moved far enough away from Jack's hat that the other ship didn't see it.

Mistake Continuity: In the scene where Ragetti is balancing the shovel in his hand, he is balancing it in his right hand. Then when we see him through the scope, however, he is balancing it with his left hand (he is still facing us). Then when we cut back to him, he is holding it in his right hand again.

Mistake Continuity: During the second attack on the Pearl, the Kraken visibly destroys the ladder from the 2nd deck to the top deck. Later, after the Kraken has been blown up, Cotton and Gibbs climb up the same ladder.

Mistake Continuity: As the pirates get dragged through the large castle doors, you see four pirates hanging in metal cages, all the way up to the castle doors. When the castle doors close from an above shot, no hanging pirates are in view.

Mistake Continuity: When Elizabeth speaks with Jack at the dock, about finding Will, her white pointed collar repeatedly jumps over and under the brown leather strap, at her right shoulder.

Mistake Continuity: When Will enters Cutler Beckett's office, Beckett pours Will a drink in a stemmed glass. When Beckett walks back toward Will, there is considerably more liquid in the glass.

Mistake Deliberate "mistake": When Elizabeth chains Jack to the Black Pearl at the end, it is with a shackle that uses a bolt and nut to lock, which would have taken a considerably longer time for her to place onto him. As we don't actually see her do it, we are to assume that she placed it on him as one would place a handcuff, quick and easy.

Mistake Continuity: When Tia Dalma holds the tray with two candles and a mug (the others were given out), as she asks if they would be willing to do anything, the position of the mug changes between shots.

Mistake Continuity: When William is talking to Cutler Beckett after being arrested, a fishing ship is seen out on the ocean, not moving. In the next shot, the ship has disappeared.

Mistake Continuity: In Tia Dalma's shack, when Tia Dalma approaches Will saying he has a touch of destiny about him and that he wants to know her, Will was standing in the door and took a few steps forwards, his back to the door. But when Jack runs to separate them, if you look through the gap between Tia Dalma and Will, they are now standing sideways to the door.

Mistake Continuity: At the beginning of the film, right after Jack hands Gibbs the dead man's leg, Mr. Cotton throws Jack's coat about his shoulders, over his hair and bandanna, but when Jack turns around, in the next shot, his hair and bandanna are on the outside of the coat. No one touched them, and Jack seems oblivious to his various accoutrements, so he wouldn't have done this either.

Mistake Continuity: When Pintel and Ragetti's boat flips, the boat is seen firmly secure on the beach, well before they end up on the beach. That would only be possible if the waves crashed on the beach with a great force.

Mistake Continuity: When trying to flee, Norrington falls and drops his sword and the chest. As he crawls in the first shot, note the sword's hand guard and hilt. In the next shot the hand guard and hilt actually differ, though the handle itself is similar to the previous shot. (This has nothing to do with camera angle.)

Mistake Continuity: At the end of the film in Tia Dalma's hut, when Tia is handing out drinks, just before Gibbs gives his two cents about Jack, there is a wide shot of the whole group and Gibbs can be seen pushing away from the doorframe and standing up. The camera cuts to a closer shot of Gibbs, and he pushes away from the doorframe a second time.

Mistake Continuity: When Will has been rescued from the Flying Dutchman and they go up on deck just before the kraken attacks, Will is on deck. A moment later he is seen on top of the mast, with no time to have got up there. The others who had come up from the cabin had only just emerged.

Mistake Continuity: When Jack and the rest arrive at Tia Dalma's, the two slim candles on her table keep changing height, as do other candles.

Mistake Continuity: When Norrington walks into Beckett's office, things on his desk change position between shots.

Mistake Continuity: When Pintel and Ragetti argue over the pronunciation of "Kraken" whilst rowing, the loose end of Jack’s red bandana changes position and jumps from his back to over his shoulder between shots more than once.

Mistake Continuity: In the scene where the two sailors have found Jack's hat in the water, they try it on in turn. When the second man tried it on, the hat changes position between shots, with no time for him to move it. In one shot, one of the corners is facing front, in the next shot a flat side is facing the front.

Mistake Continuity: In the scene when Will is talking to Cutler Beckett, there is a clock behind them that is being hauled up at a very slow pace. But when the shot switches and there's a close-up on Will, the clock has disappeared. Despite the angle change, we should still be able to see the clock. There hasn't been enough time for it to have moved out of shot.

Mistake Continuity: After Jack explains the legend of Davy Jones to Elizabeth, and they have found their heading, Elizabeth's braid is going down her back. When Jack points Elizabeth toward the ship her braid is now on her right shoulder. She doesn't move her head and there is not enough time for her to move it herself.

Mistake Continuity: When the cannibal women throw fruit at Jack, the large papaya hits the pole's point and the end of the fruit actually smashes. However, in the next shot it slides across the pole with a perfect circular hole.

Mistake Visible crew/equipment: While Norrington and Will begin their duel, Jack walks away and promptly falls into the open grave. In the shot of Jack from within the grave, the imprint of a modern, flat bottom trainer/sneaker sole can be seen on the dirt wall (yes, wall) to Jack's left. It is not the imprint of a shoe of the time period.

Mistake Continuity: When Will is speaking with Cutler Beckett, Will’s knotted bow tie changes – note the level of its white lace.

Mistake Deliberate "mistake": When Shishka-Jack falls, the rope is tied round his left ankle. When the pole gets stuck, in the second close-up of Jack spinning free the rope is actually tied round his right ankle (his spinning loose of the rope is also the opposite way).

Mistake Continuity: Aboard the Flying Dutchman, when Will sneaks in to steal the key, as the shot draws closer to Jones the quills are shown on the organ keys - with one leaning over the keys. In the next shot, as Will reaches sleeping Jones, both quills are leaning away from the keys, and an extra quill stick (feather free) suddenly appears.

Mistake Continuity: When Jack, Elizabeth and Norrington remove the small chest from the larger one, and when Will kneels beside them, there are letters, etc lying on the large chest's lid, which change, disappear and reappear.

Mistake Continuity: When the Flying Dutchman attacks the Pearl the cannon flies through the rear windows and slams into the captain's stateroom doors, leaving a debris laden door jamb. However, in the next shot when Pintel and Ragetti peer in, the door jamb is intact.

Mistake Continuity: During Jack's escape, as he attempts to flee from the cannibals, when he enters the hut there are silver objects, such as tea pots, etc, on the table, which change position in following shots; and the cup and saucer disappear in the shot facing the table.

Mistake Other: The first time the Kraken attacks the ship, he breaks it clean in 2. One of the guys is right next to the tentacle when it breaks the ship, yet he is launched up into the air. If he was next to the break he would be pulled down into the water, the only way he'd be launched would be if he were at the opposite end of the boat.

Mistake Continuity: When Tia Dalma asks, "Would you sail to the ends of the earth to fetch back witty Jack and his precious Pearl?" her lips are only partially covered in black. However, when she says, "Then you will need a captain who knows those waters," her lips are covered entirely in black.

Mistake Continuity: When bound Jack begins his escape, he happens upon a young cannibal boy holding utensils, whose face and body are painted. A bit later, on the beach, the paint differs greatly - note the lines, etc.

Mistake Continuity: At Tia Dalma’s, when Will tosses the knife at the tabletop, there is a tall slim candle beside his right hand. However, in the next shot when Tia Dalma says, “Against the cold and the sorrow,” the candle beside his right hand is now very short, though no time has passed. (This doesn't refer to the short, wide candle in both shots.)

Mistake Continuity: When the water wheel rolls away from the camera, just as Jack falls out after hitting his head, the thin part of the axle is missing on the left, though at this angle it should be seen. Both sides of the axle are intact in following shots. Note, when the wheel rolls onto the beach, before it falls over, it is shown at the very same angle as the earlier shot.

Mistake Factual error: When Jack shoots at the hanging barrels of gunpower and rum, in the final battle with the Kraken, he fires a ball (presumably lead) as seen in the slow motion. However this would not cause an explosion as shown. There wouldn't be a spark for ignition.

Mistake Continuity: After the ship with the "bride spirit" is attacked by the Kraken, Will ends up underwater, and when he surfaces his hair is soaked and slicked back, as he climbs on the ship's debris. However, in the next shot, his hair is parted, stringy and falling to the front.

Mistake Continuity: After arresting Will and Elizabeth, when Cutler Beckett holds up Norrington's arrest note, the way the paper is folded and how he holds it differs between shots.

Mistake Continuity: At the edge of the cliff, in the first overhead shot, when the four men lift the coffin its "head" side is nearest the water. However, in the next shot the "foot" side is nearest, before they throw it in the water.
