Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006) - 122 mistakes
starring Johnny Depp, Keira Knightley, Orlando Bloom
Continuity: After Jack takes the heart out of the chest he hurriedly closes its lid, the locks engage, and the key's end remains in the horizontal position when Jack runs off. However, when Pintel and Ragetti grab the chest the key's circular end is now vertical - the key does not turn itself. Submitted by Rikki
Continuity: Aboard the "spirit bride" ship, when Captain Bellamy complains about port tariffs, he places two small papers on the desk (atop the map) in the close-up, yet there is only one in the next shot, as he adds more papers. Submitted by Rikki
Continuity: When Jack beheads the pirate and then when the pirate body searches for its head as Jack unlocks the chest, the plant debris appear and disappear in Jack's hair. Submitted by Rikki
Deliberate "mistake": When Elizabeth chains Jack to the Black Pearl at the end, it is with a shackle that uses a bolt and nut to lock, which would have taken a considerably longer time for her to place onto him. As we don't actually see her do it, we are to assume that she placed it on him as one would place a handcuff, quick and easy.
Continuity: When they dig up the chest and Will arrives, there are long shadows. Yet, when Jack, Will and Norrington duel, they have very short shadows directly beneath them. The large chest's shadow changes as well. Submitted by Rikki
Continuity: When Tia Dalma holds the tray with two candles and a mug (the others were given out), as she asks if they would be willing to do anything, the position of the mug changes between shots. Submitted by Rikki
Continuity: When William is talking to Cutler Beckett after being arrested, a fishing ship is seen out on the ocean, not moving. In the next shot, the ship has disappeared. Submitted by Nick Bylsma
Continuity: When Cutler Beckett enters his office and places the lantern on the desk, the handle is down. However, when Elizabeth walks out of the shadows, the lantern's handle is upright, then down again in a later shot. Submitted by Rikki
Continuity: When Elizabeth points the gun at Cutler Beckett, a certain amount of her hair is down, but more hair is pulled up in following shots. Submitted by Rikki
Revealing: In the first scene where we see Elizabeth talking to Jack on the deck of the ship, you can tell that Elizabeth is wearing a wig. When she turns to Jack, the wind blows her hair over the front of her shoulders, and you see her real (very short) hair on the back of head. When it cuts back to an over the shoulder shot of her, her wig is now covering her real hair.
Revealing: When the fruit from Jack's "kebob" land next to him, they gently plop to the ground intact, despite having fallen from a great height. Although Jack also lands intact, his fall was cushioned by a number of obstacles—the multiple wooden bridges, the bamboo pole catching between the rocks, the unwinding rope, etc. With the exception of the pineapples, the already-damaged fruits (from being speared) are too thin-skinned or the rinds too brittle to have survived an impact from the height, speed, and angle shown. These are the SAME fruits (papayas, mangos, and melons) that easily splattered into pulp when thrown at Jack by the native women with far less force, a slower speed, and at a close range. Continuity: Right after James, Jack, and Will engage in sword fighting, Elizabeth runs after them shouting and angry. As she looks at them initially, the background behind them is tropical forest and mountains. The scene cuts back to Elizabeth, then returns to the fighting men but the background for the rest of the scene is ocean and beach, with no mountains to be seen. (Time)
Continuity: After Mr. Mercer kills Governor Swann's Captain friend, he heads for the carriage to search for Elizabeth. The candle in the carriage lantern differs between shots - note the height and melted wax. Submitted by Rikki
Continuity: When Elizabeth demands, "What are the charges?" the guard is just putting the shackle on her left wrist, with the right off as well. However, in the previous shot the left shackle is already on and the right is being put on. Submitted by Rikki
Continuity: When bound Jack begins his escape, he happens upon a young cannibal boy holding utensils, whose face and body are painted. A bit later, on the beach, the paint differs greatly - note the lines, etc. Submitted by Rikki
Continuity: When Jack and the rest arrive at Tia Dalma's, the two slim candles on her table keep changing height, as do other candles. Submitted by Rikki
