When Peter Weller is in the rocket shuttle and about to leave for Earth he contacts the military and advises them of his departure. The reply is instant - and impossible - Weller is on a distant planet at the edge of the solar system. The radio waves would take years to reach Earth and just as long for them to send a reply. [Maybe in the year 2078 they discovered the priciples of sub space, like in Star Trek, that allows for instaneous communications.]
