The Phantom of the Opera (2004) - 72 mistakes
Directed by Joel Schumacher, starring Ciarán Hinds, Emmy Rossum, Gerard Butler, Minnie Driver, Miranda Richardson, Patrick Wilson, Jennifer Ellison
Continuity: At the end of the music of the night scene, the Phantom lays Christine down on the bed and sings the line, "help me make the music of the night." While singing this, he moves his finger down Christine's jaw line, and his finger comes off her chin. Yet when the camera angle changes, he is just starting to move his finger down her jaw, starting up near the ear. He wouldn't have had time to move his finger back up that quickly.
Continuity: When the new owners of the opera are being introduced, one dancing girl says to another while looking at the new owners, "They must be rich." You can see Christine and Meg in the background. However, when they introduce Raoul, you see Christine and Meg climbing the stair to get to the stage and the "They must be rich" girls coming up behind them. (Timecode)
Factual error: Raoul is the Vicomte de Chagny and he gets called that throughout the movie, even during the auction (which shows he didn't change titles when his parents or his brother died, for example). Yet Christine's tombstone calls her a countess when it should have read viscountess–or, even better, vicomtesse. Submitted by Sereenie
Continuity: During All I Ask of You, Christine and Raoul are walking on the rooftop, and he even picks her up and swings her around. When the Phantom sings the reprise almost immediately afterward, there is a shot of him on the statue that shows the entire rooftop area, and his footprints in the snow are the only ones visible. This rooftop is a closed area and the only way in or out is the door and steps we see Raoul and Christine using. Furthermore, the Phantom was spying on the lovers by hiding behind a statue almost next to them, and it was not snowing nearly heavy enough to have completely covered up Raoul and Christine's footprints.
Continuity: During the Masquerade, there is a close-up of two of the dancers, who sing "But who can name the face?" while standing next to each other, without moving. Next shot, they are several feet apart and the lady is dancing towards where the male dancer is standing. (Timecode) Submitted by Sereenie
Continuity: Toward the end of the scene "Little Lotte," when Christine says, "No Raoul, wait," we see Raoul close the door and exit. Instantly after he shuts it we see the outside of the door, but Raoul is nowhere to be seen. There is no way that he could have already gone because there is no shot between the time when he closes the door and when we see the outside of her dressing room, where he should be at least for a second. We know that this is most certainly the outside of the door because we see the Phantom's hand and Madame Giry moments later.
Continuity: As Carlotta is saying "I hope he is as excited by the dancing girls as your new managers", she holds her hand up with one finger in the air, but in the next shot, her hand is near her waist with no fingers protruding. (Timecode) Submitted by Blibbetyblip
Continuity: As Carlotta is finishing the Hannibal song, she looks with contempt at André and Firmin and puts her hands on her hips, but in the next shot, her hands are by her sides. (Timecode) Submitted by Blibbetyblip
Continuity: When Christine is taken to the Phantom's Lair the first time (at roughly 38 minutes into the film), as the Phantom sings, he leads her by the hand from the gondola to the "Christine" mannequin. On their way, near the pipe organ is a Roman-style bust of a man's head with a dark strip of cloth askew over its left eye. When the Phantom sings "Let your soul take you." and "Savor each sensation." the strip of cloth is wide (like a sweat band), but when he sings "Let the dream begin." a 10th of a second later, the cloth has become very narrow - thin, like a bow tie. It turns back into the sweat band version again after Christine's nap.
Visible crew/equipment: Right after Christine is shown on stage singing "Think of Me", the camera pans out to show the audience members. When it gets to the back of the room on the floor, you can see at least 5 dummies used as seat fillers. They look to be only torsos and heads sleeveless t-shirts on.
Continuity: When Buquet hangs over the scene, you can see Meg screaming along with three other dancers. Four shots later, Meg is still screaming, but the two girls who were to her right (on the left of the screen) are still dancing, as if they haven't seen Buquet yet. (Timecode) Submitted by Sereenie
Continuity: When Messieurs Lefèvre, André and Firmin interrupt the rehearsal, just as the conductor is saying, "Monsieur Lefèvre, I am rehearsing," André and Firmin get a lot closer to Lefèvre between shots. (Timecode) Submitted by Blibbetyblip
