Trivia

It's shown in the film that Ray turns up to a protest outside the concert and then refuses to play before a segregated crowd in Georgia, which earns him a lifetime ban from the state. Ray Charles did cancel his concert but only paid compensation and was never banned from Georgia. There was also no protest outside the concert hall. Source. See more...

Corrections

At the beginning, Ray is waiting to board a bus to Seattle and the words "Northern Florida" are displayed on the screen. When Ray gets to Seattle, someone asks him where he is from and he replies that he is from Tampa. Tampa is not in Northern Florida, it's in Central Florida. [Where he's from has nothing to do with where he caught the bus. He went to school in St. Augustine which is in Northern Florida.]
