Continuity mistake: After Brian shoots Tran, as he and his fallen motorbike slide to a halt there is graffiti on both sides of the tunnel walls. Note some of the graffiti on both walls change, the tags either appear out of nowhere or it disappears. (01:34:15)
Factual error: In the final drag race against the charger vs supra, when Dom launches the charger it isn't smoke coming from the tires as it dissipates very quickly, indicating it's a fog machine or something similar. And as every car guy will know, two things that happened during Dom's launch are both possible separately but legitimately impossible to do at the same time, as we see Dom pulls a wheelstand while his tires are spinning. It makes for a cool shot but physically impossible, you need traction to do a wheelstand meaning zero or minimal wheel spin, and if his tires were doing a full blown burnout, he could not have gotten the front end to come up as it does. Not to mention as he pulls a wheelstand, the entire front end comes up before the car even started rolling, if it was a true wheelstand, it would've gone at least 7-8 feet before the front end reached max height.
Factual error: Brian tells Dom that hector is running spoon engines with T66 turbos and a motec system exhaust. Spoon engines are typically 1.6L and are a terrible drag racing choice, also a 1.6L engine cannot properly spool a T66 turbo as the exhaust gasses do not have enough pressure to effectively spool the turbo.
Continuity mistake: In the scene after Dom and Brian arrive at Dom's place, Vince walks up to Dom and tells him "he had no right bringing the buster there." Just before Vince walks up, you see Dom sitting down putting his hand on his head. Next shot cuts to Vince walking up and cuts back to Dom who getting ready to sit down again then puts his hand on his head.
Other mistake: Not necessarily a mistake, but still odd. When Brian pulls up with the Supra on the flatbed, and he pops the hood, the wrong engine is shown. Yes, Jessie says it's a 2JZ, which is technically correct, but it's the naturally aspirated version 2JZ-GE, not the twin turbo 2JZ-GTE. Are we supposed to believe that they replaced the engine and the transmission of this car before it was done? It would have been cheaper and easier to find a twin turbo version with the right transmission.
Continuity mistake: When Brian drives up to the street racers meeting in the alley, there is a pipe of some sort hanging from his engine. When he picks Toretto up, it's no longer there. (00:10:00 - 00:24:00)
Continuity mistake: At the end of the film when Dom flips it the Supra has a full roll cage, but in every other scene it's only a yellow half cage.
Other mistake: When Brian shoots Tran, two bullet wounds appear in his shirt at the same time, which is impossible, because he was only shot by one person with a handgun. They also appear way too late.
Revealing mistake: When Dom crashes his Charger into a semi, the semi is approaching in the shot from behind the Charger. When the camera angle changes to the front view, the semi is stationary. In this shot, the semi has no front left wheel, and as the Charger passes through the hood of the truck, there is no engine in the truck.
Revealing mistake: During the high-speed chase with the tractor trailer, Vince fires one grappling wire through the truck's passenger windscreen to pull the glass out. He fires a second grappling wire through the now-open windscreen and grapples the passenger seat, then attaches the grappling wire to his harness and leaps to the front of the truck. So, his only tether to the truck is the horizontal grappling wire attached inside the truck cab. But, when the truck driver slams on the brakes, Vince is catapulted around the truck's front-end to the side door, his full weight suspended from a visible, vertical line that is attached to something several feet above the truck cab. The taut line from above even crushes the truck's side-view mirror under Vince's weight. This is the stuntman's safety cable, attached to an overhead boom mounted out-of-frame on top of the truck rig.
Continuity mistake: When Dom and Brian are back at Dom's place right before Jesse gets shot, there are blood stains on Dom's shirt. The stains seem to change during the shots between Dom and Brian.
Chosen answer: It's a car with the power to do a quarter-mile drag race of the type depicted in the film in ten seconds.
