Visible crew/equipment: When Harry is walking out of the Dursley's house with Moody and the others, as they walk across the front of the house, just after Kingsley says, "Dumbledore has persuaded the minister to," on the left-hand side ground floor window the reflection of the moving reflector screen is visible.

Continuity: There are two scenes during which Harry is shown having visions of the Dept of Mysteries while he is asleep. The first scene occurs after Harry's confrontation with Seamus in the Gryffindor common room. There are shots of Harry lying in bed wearing a short sleeve, crew neck tee shirt, but when he is startled awake by the vision of Voldemort, he sits up wearing a buttoned henley tee. The next day is the first day of DADA class with Umbridge. That last shot of Harry in the henley tee shirt was cut from a later scene. Later in the film, when Harry has the vision of Arthur Weasley's attack, he is wearing the henley tee shirt.
Revealing: In the Forbidden Forest, HRH are introduced to Grawp. Just as the giant lifts Hermione off the ground, in the shot from behind her, Hermione's legs disappear below her calves; the digital lines are actually visible. Slow-mo is not necessary. (Only visible on fullscreen DVD.)
Visible crew/equipment: In the Room of Requirement, during the Patronus lesson Harry walks behind Ginny, who stands between two other girls, and she says, "Expecto Patronum!" As the Patronus exits her wand, just before the shot cuts away, in the reflection behind the girls we can catch a glimpse of the camera, cameraman and crew member wearing a short-sleeved tee, between and behind the reflections of Ginny and the blonde girl.
Continuity: At 12 Grimmauld Place, when Harry and Sirius are in the room with the Black family tree, as Sirius says, "My parents with their pure-blood mania," the area of the wall with both Sirius's and Andromeda's names and burned off pictures is quite visible (as in other shots as well). Bellatrix's name is beside Andromeda's (her sister), but there is no picture over Bellatrix's name banner in this shot (only branches and leaves), nor in any other shot, except in the previous close-up, as Sirius says, "My deranged cousin," where there is a picture of Bellatrix over her name.
Continuity: As Harry holds the Prophecy, when Lucius says, "Don't you want to know the secret to your scar? ...I can show you everything," both he and Bellatrix stand directly in front of Harry and neither are wearing masks. The problem is in the overhead shot, when Harry says, "I've waited 14 years," two mask-wearing Death Eaters are approaching Harry, who's holding the glowing Prophecy orb, but maskless Lucius and Bellatrix are supposed to be standing there already.
Continuity: When Harry shouts, "Expecto Patronum," he points his wand at 'his' Dementor as the Patronus repels it and it flees. Harry then stands and puts his wand arm down, but in the next shot his wand is still up, pointing to his right with the Patronus in mid-air.
Other: When Dumbledore is dueling with Voldemort in the Ministry Atrium, there is a close-up shot of Voldemort as he opens his mouth wide, laughing. The filling in the Dark Lord's upper molar is visible in his newly acquired body.
Continuity: When Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny, Neville and Luna are held in Umbridge’s office, their confiscated wands, which lie on her desk (Umbridge's lies on the lace doily), change positions repeatedly between shots, and also note the wand on the floor.
Continuity: In her office, when Umbridge adds sugar to her tea, she places the spoon on the saucer. When Harry walks in and she says, "You're going to be doing some lines today," there is a close-up of the tea cup and the spoon is gone. After a brief close-up of Harry, the spoon reappears.
Continuity: When the Dementors attack, Harry's wand falls. It changes position from the first shot; just note the cracks on the ground.
Continuity: At the playground, when Dudley and Harry have a confrontation, Dudley wears black shorts with large white designs of words and numbers. When Dudley and Harry enter the tunnel and then later, when yumpy Dudley is in his house, Dudley's shorts have completely different designs (though it is the same type of shorts).
Revealing: In the Department of Mysteries, when Lucius removes his mask Bellatrix stands behind him, but her entire body has been digitally blackened. Additionally, there are two distinct shots in which there is a digital shape highlighting Bellatrix's face/upper body that moves as she moves. The first occurs when she remarks, "He knows how to play," then after Lucius begins to say, "Prophecies can only be retrieved," when he continues with the words, "by those about whom" it occurs once again in the close-up.
Continuity: When Harry is in Umbridge's office to do lines, there is a framed photo of her beloved Cornelius and a bowl of potpourri at the corner of her desk. In the overhead shot of Harry, as he begins to write, the frame has moved towards the center of the desk.
Continuity: After Harry's vision of Arthur Weasley's attack, he has the first Occlumency lesson with Snape. The windows behind Harry have a diamond shape pattern, with horizontal and vertical divisions on the glass. In the last shot, as Snape orders Harry to focus, when the camera dramatically pans out through these windows there is only a diamond shape pattern on the glass.
Continuity: In the Hall of Prophecy, when Neville spots Harry's glass orb and says, "It has your name on it," he is looking up at the fourth shelf, above his head. In the next shot of Harry he is looking up as well, but in his next close-up, the orb is now on the third shelf, and Harry (who is at least a foot shorter than Neville) is actually face-to-face with it, before he ever touches it.
Continuity: When Dudley is lying on the ground, with the Dementor hovering over him doing his thing, notice the wall behind Dudley with huge white graffiti. First he is lying past that specific graffiti, closer to the entrance/exit, then he is lying 4-5 ft away, on the other side of that graffiti.
Continuity: When Harry and Arthur Weasley head toward the sidewalk with the Ministry's phone booth, we see the asphalt they walk on. In the next shot of that street, there is a puddle of water precisely where they both walked puddle-free. [A common filmmaking technique. When shooting outdoor scenes in low light (like the overcast scene here) or at night, bare asphalt and concrete are frequently doused with water to give the surface a "softer" reflection of light. In this scene you can see some water on the ground in the first shot and wet concrete on the sides of the building. Apparently between shots the director called for more water (or it may have rained, but they probably got this shot with just a few short takes). Still a mistake, but there's the explanation.]
Continuity: When Dolores Umbridge uses her wand to hand out the textbooks to the class, we see a shot of Ron and Harry picking up their books and looking at the backs. In the next shot, they are both looking forward with no books in their hands.
Continuity: After bandaged Arthur arrives at Grimmauld Place, in the shot facing the twins, Molly hands the twin on the left the gift with blue wrapping and the twin on the right gets the orange wrapping. Next shot facing Arthur, as Molly pulls her hands away from the gifts, each twin actually has the opposite color than the previous shot and it is at this point they switch gifts onscreen.
Continuity: After Sirius falls through the veiled archway, when Lupin grabs Harry he first holds him over his right arm, then under and once again over, between shots.
Continuity: At the Welcoming Feast, in the close-ups of Seamus and Harry sitting at the table, there is a substantial space between them. When Dumbledore says, "Good evening, children," and later, when he says thank you to Umbridge, the boys are sitting right next each other.
Other: In the Forbidden Forest, after Grawp has put Hermione down after grabbing her, he turns round and bends down to pick something up. When the shot turns to Ron, Hermione and Harry they are still looking up at Grawp even though he's bending down. Their position doesn't move. Ron even looks Grawp up and down, even though he's still bent over with his back to the students.
Continuity: As Lupin restrains Harry from following Sirius into the Death Arch, the wand in Lupin's right hand alternates from pointing down to pointing up, then down again.
Continuity: While still at the Dursley's, Harry has a dream and wakes up. When he wakes up there is moonlight shining on his pillow, right near his face. When the camera angle changes, the moonlight on the bed where his face is is gone.
Continuity: At the train station, when Moody sees Padfoot, Molly Weasley walks a certain distance behind Harry and the dog. Next close-up she is directly behind Harry, but when it cuts to the wide shot, she's much farther back again.
Continuity: During the movie, the neatness and position of students collars, ties, buttons, and shirt bottoms sometimes differs during scenes, most noticeably in the common room and courtyard scenes.
Continuity: Dumbledore wears a thin silver strand, with dangling silver balls, tied round his beard, and the position of this strand and height of the silver balls differ in consecutive shots, depending on the camera angle, throughout the film. For example, when Dumbledore stands before the Wizengamut during Harry's hearing.
Continuity: When Harry wakes up after dreaming about Mr. Weasley's attack, you can see stubble on his neck. However, when he is in Dumbledore's office and later in Snape's, his face is clean shaven.
Continuity: After the Centaurs make off with Umbridge, Harry and Hermione meet the other D.A. members on the bridge. As the comment about Puking Pustules is made, the string tie at the bottom of Ginny’s sweater is rather long. When Neville says, “Dumbledore’s Army is about doing something real,” the tie is quite short now.
Continuity: Before the Dementor attack, just as the sky darkens and the wind kicks in at the playground, newspaper is blown against the fence, behind Harry, but after a brief shot of Dudley the newspaper is gone then blows there again. In the following overhead shot, the newspaper is gone, but when it cuts back to Harry, the newspaper is back yet again.
Continuity: When Harry is standing over Bellatrix Lestrange near the end, pointing his wand at her, his fringe (bangs) changes position a few times between shots.
Continuity: In the Room of Requirement, when Neville and Harry are alone, Neville stands before the mirror and Cedric's photo and other things are taped to the mirror. Not only does the position of the photo, etc, change between shots, the tape also differs. This occurs in other scenes as well.
Continuity: When Harry and Dudley enter the tunnel, to Harry's left is the large graffitied name "Stark" and to Dudley's right is the graffitied name "Jim", which is directly opposite the "ta" in "Stark". When the Dementor holds Harry up by the throat Harry hangs well past "Stark", as the Dementor floats at an angle in front of "Stark". After the close-up of Harry's sneakers, in the wideshot, Dudley's silhouette (at the right, in the foreground) is off to Harry's left (viewer's right) staring to his left (precisely where Harry and the Dementor are positioned), which would put Dudley farther into the tunnel. But when it cuts to facing Dudley close-up, he's now standing in front of the "Jim" graffiti, which is off to Harry's right, closer to the entrance and he's still staring off to his left.
Continuity: When the Dursleys leave in their car, there is a large hanging plant to the right of the front door with mostly large white flowers and some red. When Harry, Moody, Tonks and the rest leave the house, the flowers are now small and red.
Continuity: In the Great Hall, when Dumbledore says, "Good evening children, I have two changes in staffing this year," we see Fred and George Weasley sitting in the fifth and sixth seats, and the other students near the end of the Gryffindor table. Next shot facing Dumbledore, we see the last seven students at that side of the table and not only are the Weasleys gone, but other students differ as well. This is also seen in additional shots.
Continuity: During the interruption of the OWL examination, when Umbridge stands at the doorway to the Great Hall, she casts a very long noticeable shadow directly in front of herself, as she looks to her left. Next shot, as the twins fly past, she now casts a shadow perpendicular to the previous one, with the latter one gone.
Continuity: In Umbridge's office, Harry begins to write "I must not tell lies" on the paper and in the next close-up the writing on the paper differs. The paper itself moves on the pink mat, note the flowers in relation to the text.
Continuity: In the Room of Requirement, before the Christmas holiday, Harry compliments the DA on a job well done, and they clap. There are two consecutive shots of the group from different angles, and between shots Cho's wand turns upside down and another girl's wand changes hands, etc.
Continuity: In the Forbidden Forest, Hermione dings the bell on the handlebar in the close-up as Grawp stands quite a few feet away with empty hands. Harry's and Hermione's eyes remain fixed on Grawp as Hermione dings the bell, so we know he does not pick up another handlebar. In the next shot, Grawp, still standing in the same place, dings the bell on the same handlebar; it changed hands between shots.
Continuity: After being expelled, when Harry places the photograph on his desk, his wand moves closer and then farther away between shots.
Continuity: When Harry is being tested by Snape on being able to block his mind from being read, the sweat stain on his jumper (sweater) changes from larger to smaller during the scene.
Continuity: The Weasley boys interrupt the exams with their fireworks display. When they fly off, all of the proclamations in their wood frames fall to the floor. The proclamations above the door fall in front of the doorway at Dolores Umbridge's feet. When all of the students run out of the room, all of the proclamations that were in front of the doorway have instantly disappeared.
Continuity: At the playground, when Harry sits on the swing his long shadow is cast directly in front of him as he watches a boy and his mother by the round-a-bout, which is also directly in front of him. Problem is their shadows, which are considerably shorter than Harry's, are cast to Harry's left.
Audio problem: When Flitwick is leading the choir, just before Umbridge obnoxiously uses the tape measure to note his height, Flitwick says, "Move those mouths," but his mouth is not in sync with the words.
Continuity: When Dumbledore is duelling with Voldemort at the Ministry, some tiles by Harry get broken. In a different shot of Harry in the same place, different tiles are broken.
Continuity: When the Dementor grabs Harry at the start, Harry's feet are apart. Camera does a quick cut and now one foot is tucked behind the other.
Continuity: When Hermione asks if Ron ever stops eating, she has her hand up to her face. Camera cuts to behind Harry who has just walked over to them and her hand is no longer at her face.
Continuity: When entering the Ministry for his hearing, Harry's fringe is stuck up and to the left. When walking through the crowds just moments later it is a lot neater.
Continuity: When Dudley and Harry enter the living room after the Dementor attack, Dudley has his arm round Harry in the long shot from Petunia's chair. However, in the closeup of the door after the instant camera cut, his arm is now down by his side.
Continuity: When Harry goes to his detention, Umbridge places the spoon on the saucer. When she gives Harry the quill, the spoon has changed position.
Audio problem: When walking through the Ministry, there is someone selling the Daily Prophet and calling about it. Camera shows a shot from the air and the person can still be heard shouting about the Daily Prophet, but you can see he is talking to someone.
Continuity: When Voldemort leaves Harry's body near the end, Harry is lying on his back. Camera cuts to a long shot from the view of Ron, Ginny, Luna, Hermione and Harry is now on his side.
Continuity: When they meet Grawp, the toggle's on Hermione's jumper keep moving instantly.
Continuity: When Hermione is telling Harry that Voldemort probably showed Harry about Sirius to make him go to the Department Of Mysteries, Ron is lower than Hermione on the staircase. Yet in the next shot, he is level with her.
Revealing: Throughout parts of the film, there are points where it is obvious that Harry doesn't have glass in his glasses. One of the more noticeable points is when he is talking to Sirius in the fire.
Continuity: When Dumbledore has had a stand off against Umbridge regarding Sybill Trelawny, he turns to go back into the castle. When he does, there is a huge group of kids around him. When it cuts to a shot from the front, a huge gap has appeared in the kids instantly.
Continuity: When the Order get the brooms at the start, the height they are being held at, changes during an instant cut. Harry and Kingsley's are most noticeable.
Continuity: In the Gryffindor Common Room, when Hermione and Ron sit down beside Harry in the first shot, Hermione's left shirt ribbon hangs over her shoulder under her hair. When it cuts to the front shot, as she sees Harry's hand, that ribbon hangs properly down the front of her shirt.
Continuity: When everyone boards the carriage that is headed for Hogwarts, they talk to Luna Lovegood. During the scene, the direction in which Luna's head is facing keeps changing between shots.
Continuity: When the Death Eaters whirl around Harry (grabbing the other students) in the Death Chamber, near the Veil, in the wideshots he is lying on the ground with his head upon his right arm, but in the previous and following close-ups his arm is lower and his head is lying directly on the ground.
Continuity: When Harry brings Dudley home, just before he opens the door Petunia asks, "Diddykins, is that you?" and the plant fronds (beside the door) block the bottom of the photograph behind it, but in the next close-up the fronds are lower so the photo is more visible.
Continuity: During Mr. Weasley's celebrated arrival at 12 Grimmauld Place, in the wideshots facing that end of the table something tall is placed right beside the wood hutch, off to Ginny's left. In the shots facing the doorway, including when Harry joins them, there is nothing beside that hutch.
Continuity: When Harry and Dudley reach the tunnel (out of the rain) Harry stands level with the "r" and "k" in the very large graffitied word "Stark", and Dudley is well past the large white graffiti to his right (viewer's left). The next shot, from the boys' POV, the empty tunnel is shown and on the left is the gratified word "Stark" and part of the white graffiti on the left, even though the two boys were actually just standing quite a bit farther into that tunnel.
Continuity: When the Dementor lifts Harry off the ground in the tunnel, Harry's feet dangle beside the very large graffitied word "Stark", and then falls to the ground past the word with his feet near the "k". After it cuts to the closeup of his wand, Harry is now lying beside the "S", even closer to the Dementor, though he is trying to back away from it and reach his wand behind him.
Continuity: When Moody, Harry, Tonks et al. stand in front of 12 Grimmauld Place, their positions change. Harry and Tonks stand very close to Moody in shots facing them, but shots facing Number 12 they stand much farther apart, and in Harry's close-ups Shacklebolt now stands directly behind him, though in back shots Kingsley is behind Moody, and about 4-5 ft away from Harry.
Continuity: At the very start, Harry has his wand to Dudley. In this shot he is right by Dudley. When it goes dark, Harry and Dudley have moved apart a fair bit.
Continuity: When Padfoot runs through the door at Kings Cross, it's open a fair bit (look at the top of the door to see the angle). When Harry runs through almost instantly after, it has closed a little more.
Continuity: As the students are departing the Room of Requirement and all thanking Harry, the group of students around Harry completely changes between shots. It's especially noticeable as the boy with shoulder-length brown hair passes Harry twice.
Continuity: After the Weasley twins fly out of the school on their Broomsticks, when the students gather and applaud them, in the shot facing Flitwick, Nigel is standing to Harry's left, right beside him. In the shot facing Harry, Nigel is now standing a few feet away, to Harry's right.
Continuity: When Ron says, "Who are you and what have you done with Hermione Granger", his head is cocked to the side a little, but in the next shot, his head is facing forwards.
Revealing: When the students are riding on the Thestralls to London, in one shot Luna's hair is practically still. Seeing as they're flying fast in the air, and the Thestralls's wings are flapping strongly, surely her hair would be blowing more fiercly.
Continuity: During Harry's first detention, before he starts writing and while Umbridge is still talking, he's sitting at the desk. He's holding the quill in his right hand, and his left hand and arm are resting on the desk. The shot switches to another angle, and his left arm is immediately off the desk. Umbridge is still talking, so there is no time lapse between the two shots.
Continuity: After Harry enters the Gryffindor Common Room, when Seamus stands up his white shirt is untucked just a bit at his back. As he stands with his hands at his sides, in the next shot from behind Seamus, now the entire shirttail is untucked.
Continuity: During the movie, Harry's scar noticeably moves on his forehead and is not always in the same place.
Continuity: In scenes, but most noticeably in the court room scene, the tassle which hangs on Professor Dumbledore's hat keeps on changing position from whereabouts, and how it is hanging down.
Continuity: At the Dursleys, when the owl delivers Mafalda Hopkirk's letter and it announces Harry's expulsion from Hogwarts, the fan on the counter noticeably changes its position.
Continuity: After Harry declares, “If Dumbledore’s raising an army, I want to fight,” it cuts to him sleeping in bed, and the blanket’s position differs between shots.
Continuity: Right before Harry enters the courtroom for his hearing, we see a close-up of his face and the ends of his eyebrows (closest to the nose) stick out. In the next scene, when he sits in the chair, they have been cut back slightly.
Continuity: When Harry is talking with Hermione and Ron inside the room at the Black's house, in one shot Hermione's hair is covering the left side of her polo shirt, next shot you can see the logo because her hair is on her back. Seconds later, her hair is again covering her logo shirt.
Continuity: After riding down the escalator on their way to Harry's hearing, when Arthur Weasley tries to pass the turnstile, Harry's right hand reaches for the transit pass in his left jacket pocket in the side shot. Then he reaches once again in the front shot, before it cuts back to the side shot as he's still reaching for it. Also, note the man with the newspaper under his arm that passes the turnstile only to be back in line, between these shots.
Continuity: When Lord Voldemort is coaxing Harry, Dumbledore appears in the fireplace and his side hair is behind his shoulders. In the next shot it hangs down in front of his shoulders. Then, as the fight between Voldemort and Dumbledore starts, his hair is behind him again.
Continuity: When Harry picks up the Propechy orb, the way he holds it differs between shots.
Continuity: When Dolores has Sybil Trelawney out in the courtyard, Sybil's suitcase in front of her is horizontal to us, even when she bumps into it, it remains horizontal. After Professor McGonagall comes over though, the suitcase is now diagonally positioned.
Continuity: When Dolores has Sybil Trelawney in the courtyard, sending her from Hogwarts, Dolores says, "Actually, I can," and then holds up a scroll. The way and direction she holds the scroll changes between shots.
Audio problem: When Luna and Harry converse, as she posts signs for her 'lost' belongings, in the overhead shot of her dangling sneakers she says, "If not always in the way we expect," but her lips are not moving.
Continuity: At the Order's headquarters, after the 'bandaged' Mr. Weasley's return and the gifts are handed out and they are toasting Harry, the positions of things on the table differ between shots.
Continuity: When Harry has brought Dudley home, as Uncle Vernon is telling Harry that he's finally driven Dudley insane, Dudley's expression changes between shots from crazy to normal. Aunt Petunia's arm also changes position around Dudley.
Continuity: When Harry is sitting at the table talking and holding the Daily Prophet in his hands, he continually changes from holding the newspaper down on the table, to up in the air, and keeps on changing which side he is holding up as well.
Continuity: After the battle between Dumbledore and Voldemort, when Harry lies on the ground and Dumbledore says, “It isn’t how you’re alike…” the sand on Harry’s face disappears, reappears, etc.
Continuity: When Hermione and Ron meet Harry at Grimmauld Place, Hermione's hair changes from in front of her shoulder to behind it and back to the front.
Continuity: In the Department of Mysteries, when Hermione says, "It's just an empty archway," the scratch on Harry's right cheek is large and bloody, but in the next shot it is significantly smaller. It continues to change in following shots.
Continuity: When Dolores Umbridge writes the "OWLs" on the board, the writing becomes smaller in later shots.
Continuity: When Harry is standing in front of the prophecy orb with his name on it near the end of the film, the position of his fringe (bangs), most noticeably in relation to his scar, keeps changing during the scene.
Continuity: When Snape grabs Harry by the collar of his shirt after Harry has just seen Snape's memories, the position of Snape's thumb changes between shots.
Continuity: During the fifth-year O.W.L. exam in the Great Hall, Umbridge is sitting at the head of the room in front of the swinging pendulum. When the Weasley Wildfire Whizbangs go off in the Entrance Hall, Umbridge leaves her seat. The distance between her and the Great Hall door changes between camera shots behind and in front of her.
Continuity: During the OWLs examination in the great hall, the large pendulum that swings on the large stage behind Dolores Umbridge; during the scene the swings do not always match up from shot to shot.
Other: Harry can now see the thestral creatures because he witnessed Cedric Diggory's death in "Goblet of Fire." However, he should have been able to see the thestrals after Professor Quirrell died from Harry's touch in "Philosopher's Stone". Quirrell crumbles into dust (dying) while Harry is still conscious, watching, and fully aware of what he is seeing, thus allowing it to fully sink into his consciousness. Harry faints "after" Quirrell is dead and as Voldemort's spirit passes through his body. Nor does it only have to be a friend or loved one who dies before the thestrals can be seen — it can be anyone, including an enemy like Quirrell. There only has to be an emotional response to the death, which can be love, hate, fear, shock, etc. (In the book, Harry did not see Quirrell die, but that's irrelevant to the film).
Continuity: In the opening aerial shot of the playground, the landscape surrounding it is flat, devoid of any shrubbery, and there are no buildings or streets nearby. In the close-up shots with Harry and Dudley that are shown from various angles, there are now houses, small hilly mounds, bushes, and a road in the background.
