Pedro: Do you think people will vote for me?

Napoleon Dynamite: Heck yes! I'd vote for you.

Pedro: Like what are my skills?

Napoleon Dynamite: Well, you have a sweet bike. And you're really good at hooking up with chicks. Plus you're like the only guy at school who has a mustache.

After Pedro puts the cake down it moves closer to Summer's door and slides across her doorstep. The envelope under it also disappears and reappears. See more...

Trivia

During the filming of the LaFawnDuh/Kip wedding scene the horse that Jon Heder (Napoleon) was riding galloped past the spot that it was supposed to stop on and went dangerously close to the camera crew. Jon franticly started giving the "stop" signal to the horse, who stopped so abruptly Jon was catapulted over the front of the horse and onto the grass in front of it. This fact is confirmed on the DVD featurette "The Perfect Wedding". See more...

Comments made in brackets are corrections from other visitors. As such, any aggressive/abusive corrections (and I get quite a few) written as if they're comments I've made myself will be ignored. To submit your own corrections for mistakes, just click the edit icon under an entry, then choose "correct entry". Some entries have "duplicated entry" after them - these are entries which were already listed on the main page, but were submitted again. I occasionally leave these online for a while, just in case they were moved in error, so don't worry about pointing them out to me.

Entry When Napoleon and Pedro ride up to the school to put up the fliers, chiseled in stone on the school are the words "Preston Junior High School" while the sign underneath says "Preston High School". [This could actually happen. In the town I used to live in, the high school was converted to a junior high school and they did not bother to change the words that were carved into the facade of the building, they just put up new signs on the lawn.]
Entry When Kip is being Rex's assistant, you can see Napoleon laughing in the mirror several times during this scene. [There are 2 similar entries like this, it is very likely for Napoleon to laugh if his brother was going through that situation.]
Entry When Lyle shoots the cow, Napoleon jumps just before the shot is heard. [That's because he knows Lyle is going to shoot the cow, a lot of people flinch before a gun shoots, even if they know it's going to happen.]
Entry When Napoleon is asking Don for a "Vote for Summer" button, a group of students is standing behind him close to lockers. When Napoleon throws the button down to hall, the party is suddenly gone. [This scene takes place between classes, and people are constantly moving throughout the halls. The crowd has sufficient time to have departed while off camera.]
Entry During the end of the Rex-Kwon-Do commercial, Rex points his finger at the screen. When the text appears, Rex's finger he pointed at the screen with moves up and down in the same repetitive fashion, without Rex's body moving. [This is intentional. It is supposed to be funny, as a) the commercial is poorly made, and b) Rex is flexing his muscles as hard as he can, and the shaking is a result of that. Not a mistake.]
Entry At the dance scene when Trisha waves to Summer you can see Summer is wearing sandals with huge heels. This is only visible on the full-screen version. This seems out of character for Summer as you would expect her to wear dress shoes in her dance dress because she is the popular prissy girl of the school. Maybe she is wearing these to make her look taller for the film. You can't see her feet in the wide-screen version because they clip the bottom portion of the image when they made the wide-screen version. [Summer's poor choice of shoes isn't a movie mistake.]
Entry At the end of the movie when Pedro is celebrating with his family that he got chosen as president, the cake displays the colors of the Mexican flag, but they made the cake red, white, green instead of green, white, red like it should be. [Character mistake not movie mistake.]
Entry In the beginning, the action figure he is going to throw out the window has its arms up, until the exterior shot from outside the bus, where it's bouncing around, its arms are down. [All the bouncing could have made the arms change.]
Entry In the scene where Napoleon is calling home from school, there is a plate of nachos on the counter behind Kip. As Napoleon and Kip rotate close-ups, the height and thickness of the cheese on the nachos changes drastically with each new shot. [This has been submitted and corrected, and then rejected several times already. This was deliberately done for the humor. It does not even qualify as a deliberate mistake.]
Entry When Uncle Rico is proposing the deal for the 24 piece set, he takes out the "little extra": a ship that fits neatly into the box. But in the next shot the ship is suddenly bigger than the box and would not have fit in it. [It is quite plausible that the boat was in the box at an angle, so that it could easily fit inside.]
Entry When Napoleon is giving Deb her boxes back, the boxes appear to be too large to fit Napoleon's locker. [How can they be too big when he pulls them straight out of his locker; with no hesitation either?]
Entry In the scene where Kip tells Napoleon he's training to become a cage fighter Kip is typing on the computer in a chat room, but when Napoleon goes down to "Fight" with Kip, the computer is not even on. [It is very likely that Kip turned off only the monitor so that Napoleon would not see what he was saying in the chat rooms.]
Entry When Kip is fighting with Rex, look in the mirror when Kip takes a shot at Rex's shin area, and you can see Napoleon trying to keep a straight face. [A similar entry has already been corrected. Napoleon laughing as his brother gets beaten up is perfectly normal, and not a mistake.]
Entry All the food in the opening credits is eaten by a main character sometime in the movie. [Not true. I made a list of all the food in the credits and crossed them off every time one of them was eaten. The following never are: the chicken nuggets, the tortilla, the white nachos with red sauce, the lemon candies, and the hamburger.]
Entry When Pedro is riding his bike while going off the ramp, there are six bricks under the ramp, but to make Napoleon fall there are only four bricks. [Don't see the mistake. Maybe Napoleon didn't want to jump the ramp at that steep of an angle and removed two of the bricks before he jumped.]
Entry When Pedro and Napoleon are waiting in the ditch to give Summer the cake, in the background there is just field and mountains. After Summer answers the door, there is a highway or busy road reflected in the windows. [The road is there when Napoleon and Pedro are waiting in the ditch. Only one car goes by during the shot, and it's hard to see through the tall grass.]
Entry Pedro is penalized for using a pinata that looks like Summer. But in her speech in the end, she says "Who wants to eat chimichangas next year?" This is pretty easily interpreted as a racial slur, surely the principal would have a small problem with it. [The debate scene is the last scene filmed in the school. We have no idea if Summer was punished, penalized, or even talked to for her remark.]
Entry When Napoleon tells Deb that she could be drinking whole milk instead of 1%, Deb is initially wearing one white bracelet on her left arm as she is eating her sandwich. The shot changes to Napoleon speaking again, then back to Deb, at which point she is wearing several different clunky white bracelets. [On the DVD, she's wearing the same bracelets throughout the whole scene.]
Entry When Napoleon is on a lunch break from his "job," he's eating a sandwich and less than 3 seconds/two shots later he has a glass of the "egg juice." There is no way he would be able to grab a glass, pour the drink, and get back where he was standing that quickly. [The scene is like a montage; it's not supposed to be in real time.]
Entry When Kip gets on the bus with LaFawnduh, he carries their suitcases on board. Commercial buses stow luggage in compartments along the side of the bus. [Commercial buses also have some overhead compartments where insecure travellers may store their luggage if they wish.]
Entry When Napoleon is eating lunch with the farmers, the spoon in the drink changes from standing straight up to laying across the top of the jar. [I have watched this scene over and over again to make sure; the wooden spoon in the "mystery" drink is never laid across the top of the jar. As a matter of fact, it stays where it should from shot to shot.]
Entry When Summer and Tricia are handing out "Vote for Summer" buttons to students in the school's hallway, there is one notable part where they don't give them out to a couple of nerds walking by. A few moments later, the same shot of the nerds is shown using footage from a different camera. [One of those two nerds walking by Summer is never seen again, the one with the red backpack. The other nerd is wearing the FFA jacket just like Pedro and Napoleon. A lot of people are wearing them in this scene.]
Entry In the scene where Napoleon and Kip are at the Rex Kwon Do demonstration, right after Rex performs the "break the wrist and walk away" technique on Kip, Rex asks Kip to try and kick him. You can see Napoleon in the mirror, sitting on the floor. Right after Kip's first kick attempt, Napoleon tilts his head down and you can see by his face in the mirror that he is laughing at Rex and Kip. [So, I would be laughing too if i watched my brother going through the same thing Kip went through.]
Entry Watch the lady caught in a headlock during the Rex Kwon Do commercial. Presumably she was already a student when the commercial would have been filmed, yet she appears later as a prospective student at the introductory meeting attended by Kip and Napoleon. [You can't just assume she was already a student and count it as a mistake. For all we know Rex could have just picked some random lady off the street to do the commercial, and as payment offered her free lessons when the next class started.]
Entry When Napoleon asks Don for one of the "Vote for Summer" buttons in the hallway, Napoleon turns to throw the button and there is a female classmate right next to Napoleon walking in the direction in which he is throwing the pin. As he starts to throw the button down the hall, the female extra is not there. Then, when Napoleon completes the throw, the girl ducks and reacts to Napoleon throwing the pin over her head. [If you look closely, you can see the girl coming down the stairs.]
Entry When Napoleon begins dancing with Deb at the school dance, there is nothing hanging anywhere near his head. As they talk during their slow dance, they each barely move their feet, standing in pretty much the same spot throughout the whole song. After they have their conversation and continue dancing, the camera zooms out from the couple (just before the scene change) and now there is a large star-shaped decoration right above Napoleon's head. It touches Napoleon's hair a couple of times, even causing him to move his head. [No, the star is there the whole time.]
Entry When Napoleon calls Kip from school to request his Chapstick, the cheese Kip is grating keeps changing. In the final shot, the amount of cheese on top of the nachos increases dramatically. [The cheese is supposed to change size, it's just a joke, that's why Kip keeps on looking at it.]
Entry In the scene when Lyle (the farmer) is getting ready to shoot the cow, you should see a bus coming down the road because seconds later the bus pulls up. [You can't see the road when it cuts to the view of Lyle. All you see is bushes and shrubbery in the way.]
Entry After Summer and her friends perform their "skit," the crowd is heard clapping, making whoops and whistling. However when the camera shows the crowd of kids, they are clapping but nobody is whooping or whistling. Several kids are chewing gum and one girl is laughing, the rest have their mouths shut. There are no fingers up to mouths to produce whistling sounds from the crowd. [The whole audience isn't shown in the camera's view. If you look carefully, you can tell there are more kids off to the sides of the auditorium. They could have been the ones who were whooping and clapping.]
Entry In the scene where Napoleon looks at his watch while going to pick up Trisha for the school dance, it says July 17th; but, Preston High school is on summer break at the time (there wouldn't be a school dance in the middle of summer break.). [Obviously Preston High School isn't on summer break in the film, as half the scenes (both before and after the dance) take place at school. Many places have year-round school, which would account for them being at school in July.]
Entry Watch the reflection on the picture hanging behind the couch when Uncle Rico is talking to Tricia's Mom. In the lower right hand corner of the glass, a reflection can be seen moving around, possibly from a crew or cast member waiting behind the camera. [It's actually the shadow of Uncle Rico's head.]
Entry When Uncle Rico and Kip are at Big J's (both times), the position of the straw in Uncle Rico's milkshake moves almost every time the camera changes point of view. [Uncle Rico could have easily moved the straw or taken a sip, moving the straw.]
Entry When Kip throws the bowling ball at the bowling alley, during his more private meeting with Uncle Rico, it bounces off the gutter blocking railings several times before striking the pins. In the next few shots, the bowling lane is visible behind Kip and Uncle Rico, as they each stand respectively during their conversation, but the gutter blocking railings are gone. [Bowling alley railing can be automatically raised and lowered for particular bowlers in a match - as such, they could easily appear and disappear over the course of a scene.]
Entry Just after the cow is killed, there's a reaction shot from inside the school bus. The kids are all staring out the windows on the right side of the bus, but they should be looking out the left side where the shooting took place. [The camera was in the front of the bus, so the kids would look out the right instead of the left.]
Entry When the kids are riding in the school bus, they pass the farmer as he shoots his cow. If you look closely out the windows of the bus from the inside shot, you'll see that the bus is not moving. [By the time we get to the shot from inside the bus, the bus has already stopped moving.]
Entry When Pedro goes off the jump with the bike there is a cinder block under it in order to keep it from breaking. When Napoleon goes off the jump and it breaks, there is no cinder block. [The cinder blocks are there during both jumps. During Napoleon's jump, they are simply stacked on top of one another to make the jump higher, with a steeper slope.]
Entry The sign on the bus station reads "Idago Bus Lines," but the bus that LaFawnduh gets off says "PRT" (Preston Rapid Transit) on the side. Apparently, the filmmakers borrowed a city bus because they either couldn't find or couldn't afford one from Idago. [A very plausible and obvious reason is, that the bus is from the city she was coming from.]
Entry When Napoleon is calling Pedro's house (and Pedro is the one that picks up the phone) he only dials 6 numbers. [Napoleon dials one of the numbers twice. So, he pushes six numbers on the phone but one of the numbers is done two times, making it a complete seven-digit phone number.]
