Alien Vs. Predator (2004) - 54 mistakes

Factual error: When they're first entering the whaling camp, a penguin startles Miller. That penguin was a black-footed penguin, which is a bird native to much warmer climates. If that little guy had actually been in Antarctica, he would have died within minutes.

Continuity: In the scene where Lex is running in the abandoned whaler camp, the "shield" she is holding keeps changing hand between shots.

Continuity: Early in the movie the female protagonist "Lex" Woods is climbing an ice waterfall. The scene shown from a distance reveals a steep ascent above the ice, but in the next scene, she reaches a large area flat enough for a helicopter to land upon.

Continuity: When the group are in the pyramid, just after they have discovered the weapons inside the sarcophagus, they begin to take them out. When Sebastian says, "Don't touch them", all the doors start to close, and Lex runs past a guy twice. (Slo-mo may be necessary.)

Visible crew/equipment: During the briefing Weyland says "But it's not on the ice, it's two thousand feet below it" it cuts to a shot behind Maxwell with an overview shot of the crew. If you look behind Maxwell you can see the tip of a head moving into picture. In the previous shot we could see no one was standing behind Maxwell, and it couldn't be Sebastian cause he went back to his seat.

Continuity: When Sebastian says that the experts are right he gets up and says "All of them" you can see his hands are down. When it cuts to Lex saying "Meaning what exactly? Sebastian has his left hand by his waist.

Continuity: Lex's initiation mark disappears in overhead shots.

Continuity: When Sebastian comes out of the hole to reveal the video camera he found, his red t-shirt has no mud/dirt on the front, but in the following shot when Sebastian is walking to the tent, there is a rather large long streak of mud/dirt on his t-shirt.

Continuity: When the predators are watching the humans in a room, Weyland drops one of the guns from his backpack. Its position and distance on the floor from Weyland's boots changes between shots.

Continuity: When Lex and the predator are going up the tunnel at the near the end of the movie. Lex has the alien head shield on her left arm. But when they are speeding up the tunnel, the shield is not on either arm. If you pause it, you can see the shield missing. When they emerge out of the tunnel it is back on her arm.

Continuity: When Lex Miller and Sebastian are talking at the side of the ship at the beginning, Miller says "Ii wish you'd consider coming with us ", it cuts to a shot from the side/back, she is looking either in Sebastian's direction or out to sea, yet in the following shot she is looking at Miller's face.

Continuity: When Lex is in Weyland's office on the ship, in one shot her arms are crossed, in the following shot, her hands are on the table, then back to crossed.

Continuity: When Lex is on her way to meet Weyland, Miller asks her to take a picture. When she first takes the camera, she puts her fingers on top, ready to take the picture, then she does it again.

Continuity: When Sebastian is checking the sand inside the tunnel, right before he finds the Pepsi Cola cap, you can see a close-up of his wrist and there is no sign of his watch. When it cuts his watch is visible.

Factual error: The expedition leader claims that Bouvet Island is not under any national control, because of the Antarctic Treaty. However, because of its remoteness from the continent of Antarctica, Bouvet Island is actually not included in this treaty and Norway has full ownership of this island.

Continuity: When Alexa and Sebastian are walking down a passageway in the pyramid, after everyone else has been killed, they begin to hear aliens all around them and look around. When Alexa shines her torch at an alien, she is on Sebastian's right side, but in the next shot she is on his left side, and her small torch vanishes from her right hand.

Continuity: Close to the beginning, when the group is inside the pyramid below the sacrificial chamber, when the shot is from behind Lex and the others, note where the green light is, directly in the middle of the stairs. When it cuts to an overhead view, it's more to the left than the right.

Continuity: When Miller places his camera on the cabinet to take a picture of himself, the string from the camera changes position between the shots.

Continuity: In the beginning, when the man notices the "Unidentified Heat Signature" warning on the screen, he removes his arm from the table twice in separate shots.

Continuity: In the beginning when Lex answers the phone, her earpiece and ear are visible. In the next shot both are covered by her cap.

Continuity: At the end compare the shots taken from the top when the predator is lying dead over the snow; right after he dies and when the other predators are going to pick him up. His left arm changes position and his "rasta locks" are spread in a different pattern.

Continuity: When Adele first puts the magazine in her pistol and holsters it, its a Beretta 92F. When she pulls it out in the sacrificial chamber, it has changed to a Beretta 84FS.

Factual error: The Desert Eagle that Miller & Lex use to shoot Aliens can hold a maximum of 9 rounds in .357 Magnum. Yet they fire quite a large number of shots from the same gun without reloading. High-capacity magazines are unavailable for the Desert Eagle as the magnum rounds are just too big.

Continuity: In the close-up shot inside the snowmobile, where we see Sebastian fiddle with his bottle cap, we can see he is holding it with his right hand. When it cuts he is holding it with his left hand.

Revealing: After the predator drops Weyland, as the predator turns, you can see the skin of the actors neck.

Revealing: There is a wide shot of the ship were there is some equipment on the ice and some people moving around. The ship itself and the equipment cast shadows. But none of the moving people cast any shadows at all.

Continuity: When Miller and Lex see the penguin it travels some distance from the table it emerged from, yet in the following shot, it is a lot closer to the table.

Continuity: When Sebastian has picked up the Pepsi Cola cap and about to uncover it, as Thomas is filming him, we can see his sleeve on his right arm is pulled up. When it cuts to a view through Thomas' camera his sleeve is further down his wrist.

Continuity: When Sebastian says "Thomas, the burial chamber is here. We're gonna find it." you can see a man with a blue shirt and a man with an orange shirt walking in the background. When it cuts the same men are walking but now several people have suddenly appeared behind them.

Continuity: In the scene when the Predator is impaled on the Alien's tail, there is Predator blood all over the Alien's tail. When the Alien flings the Predator's body away, the Predator blood on the Alien's tail disappears.

Continuity: When the main Predator kills his first alien, he concludes the 'rite of passage' by burning himself on the forehead with alien acid. This should have left a circular mark on his forehead, but when we see him at the end of the movie, he only has the 'tau' symbol.

Factual error: When arriving in Antarctica, there is dialogue about the full moon (la luna di cacciatore, etc...) There is no full moon on 10/10/2004 in Antarctica. But it does look nice in the movie...

Continuity: When Sebastian starts to crawl back out of the hole after discovering the Pepsi-cola cap, the guy with the camera is holding the camera with his right hand, but in the following shot he is holding it with both hands.

Continuity: In the beginning when Sebastian is uncovering the tunnel he says "We must be right on top of it", you can see he rests his right arm over the edge of the bricks. When it cuts from inside the tunnel his arm no longer over the bricks.

Factual error: The members of the expedition are wearing their Snow Goggles on their hats with the lenses to the front. However, anyone who has ever worked in a cold weather environment (especially the guide and her "7 seasons on the ice") would know that the goggles should be worn backwards if they're not over your eyes. This keeps them from getting moisture on them.

Continuity: When the group walks along a passageway, the predators are watching from above, and in one shot the distance of the guy at the back of the group goes from about 8 feet, to almost right next to the others between shots.

Factual error: When the predator starts to kill Weyland, Weyland uses his oxygen tank as a makeshift flame thrower. Contrary to popular belief, oxygen does NOT burn. It only allows other things to burn. The three things needed for a fire are oxygen (which he had), fuel (which he did NOT have) and heat (from the flare he lit).

Continuity: In the scene with the sacrificial chamber, where the Alien eggs come up and start to open, the guy with the glasses (if someone can correct me on the name, please do), he shines the flashlight on the egg closest to him and focuses the beam tighter. As the camera angle shifts to a higher place, he does the same thing again.

Plot hole: A big deal is made about the pyramid reconfiguring every ten minutes, which the archaeologist surmises because the calendar is metric (powers of ten). Why then would it be in minutes, rather than a truly metric time measurement (eg a 100th of a day)?.

Revealing: In the beginning of the film, the penguin walks on artificial (paper) snow.

Continuity: Towards the beginning, in the scene where they are first going down the tunnel, and the one guy slides out of control. When the woman uses her pick axe to stop him, she slams it into the tunnel before he passes, and his jacket catches on the ax. In the next shot, the axe has struck the jacket in the middle, the jacket is no longer "hooked" on the ax.

Continuity: When Lex and the others in the group reach the sarcophagus, Sebastian starts to turn one of the dials, the camera cuts to Weyland for his line, he has a flashlight in his right hand, yet in the following shot its no longer there.

Continuity: When the alien queen awakes she opens her mouth and screams. When she does so she lifts up her upper lip exposing her teeth. When it cuts she does the same again.

Continuity: When the predator lifts his spear before killing Max, the predator holds the spear by his chin level. When it cuts, the spear is almost over the predator's head.

Continuity: When Lex and the Predator are running through the tunnel and neither of them has the spear that the Predator built for her. Then later spear is back. Then after the sled crashes, its gone again. For the remainder of the sequence, the Predator has it.

Continuity: Below the sacrificial chamber when Lex says "This should be below the sacrificial chamber" you can see Lex and Sebastian walking towards the stairs, while Maxwell and Thomas are several feet behind them. When it cuts to a shot from above them they are all suddenly clustered together.

Revealing: When the second man is killed by the Predator and thrown through the air hitting a table, if you look closely the feet of the table have been sawn in advance, making the table break easier.

Continuity: When Weyland drops the Predator weapon we see from the Predator's view that Weyland grabs the weapon at the end of it. When it cuts Weyland's grip has moved further in on the weapon.

Continuity: In the beginning when the man realizes the Predator is in the same room, he falls to the ground and backs up against an oven. You can see several dippers behind his back, but only three dippers on his right side. When it cuts to a close-up there are five dippers. (Extended version only).

Continuity: As Quinn is sliding down the tunnel while trying to grab on to the ice with his icepick, he is sliding down with his feet first. Then he is suddenly sliding backwards with no time to have rotated.

Continuity: In the beginning when the man is running through the whaling station the two upper buttons on his shirt are unbuttoned. But when he falls on his back as the Predator is approaching him his shirt is entirely buttoned (Extended version only).

Continuity: After Sebastian manages to open the sarcophagus containing the weapons, Miller sticks his head in to the sarcophagus and says "Any ideas what these are?" When it cuts his head is out of the sarcophagus.

Continuity: When the man is pinned to the wall by the Predator's spear there is a close-up shot of his feet showing a box beside his right foot. When it cuts to a shot from the side of the man the box is gone.

Continuity: When Lex comes climbing over the edge she rams one of her icepicks in the ground. Two shots later she has suddenly rammed her other icepick in the ground as well. We would have noticed if she did so.
