Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story

Corrected entry: At the start of the movie when White Goodman is advertising Globo Gym in his commercial, they show a picture of White dated 1987. He states that this was him 6 years and 600 lbs ago. Later in the movie, the ESPN Ocho broadcast states they have been covering sports since 1999. If the 1987 picture was 6 years ago, that makes the current date 1993, so 1999 would be 6 years in the future.

Correction: It's just an old commercial that's oddly still being shown on TV. The commercial itself would have been filmed in or around 1993, but the movie takes place around the present year, respective to its 2004 release date. This is evidenced by some of the film's pop culture references, such as Lance Armstrong talking about the multiple Tour de France competitions that he won despite battling testicular cancer.

Correction: Actually it does close fully, it's not a pie iron that squeezes close, someone is inside of that.

Corrected entry: When the announcer announces "Oh my, Globo Gym wins" nothing happens. When the announcer announces that "The winner is Average Joe's" confetti falls from the roof. Why didn't it fall when Globo Gym supposedly won? Usually someone would have triggered the confetti once the winner was announced. (01:19:05)

Correction: This is a question, not a mistake. The answer is it only appeared that Globo Gym had won. The official had to confirm it. The confetti doesn't fall when the announcer declares a winner.

Corrected entry: In the finals, when White eliminates Peter but was over the line, wouldn't being over the line cause White to be kicked out of the game and thus giving Average Joe's the win, and not force a sudden death?

Correction: As explained earlier in the film, a double-fault results in Sudden Death. Dwight had already illegally hit Kate with a ball, so stepping over the line was his second offense.

Correction: I feel like this is more of a question than a plot hole. Regardless, the referee called for sudden death... so it went to sudden death.

Continuity mistake: When Ben Stiller goes to the girl's house in the white suit - she slams his head into the wall and a blood/makeup stain shows up...when the camera angle changes the stain is gone. (00:42:05)

Cotton McKnight: I'm being told that Average Joe's does not have enough players and will be forfeiting the championship match.
Pepper Brooks: It's a bold strategy, Cotton. Let's see if it pays off for 'em.

Chosen answer: "Deus Ex Machina" means "God out of the machine." It's from Greek plays, wherein a god would appear at the end of the story to solve a problem. Nowadays it basically means that a totally new plot element appears out of nowhere and solves everything. It's an easy (and cheap) way out.
