Mean Girls (2004) - 64 mistakes

Continuity: After the Halloween party, when Cady walks into Damian and Janis' house, Damian gets scared and tosses all of the popcorn out of his bowl. In the next shot of Damian his bowl is full again.

Continuity: When the principal is introducing Cady to the class, the amount of donuts on the desk changes between shots. In some shots there are two donuts on top of the donut box, and other shots there are no donuts.

Continuity: When the main character is confronted by her crush in her room, she puts her drink on a pile of CDs, the CD pile starts to fall in the background as there is a shot of the guy, a split second later the cup is on the table next to the CDs, and the CDs are piled differently.

Continuity: When Cady runs into her teacher on the first day of school and spills coffee all over her, look at Tina Fey's pants. It looks like she is wearing rubber pants when the coffee is spilling down her front. The color of the pants also change during this shot.

Continuity: When The Plastics go to Regina's house for the first time, Karen walks over to the counter to put her bag down twice.

Continuity: When Cady, Janice and Damian are in class talking about different things, like watching a movie, and Cady tells Janice she can't see her art show because she going to Madison etc., Cady is applying lip gloss. She holds a pocket mirror and in shots of the mirror you can see Cady holding the pink tube of lip gloss in the same hand, then when it cuts to wideshots, the tube isn't in her hand. The pink tube of lip gloss also has no lid on it, yet near the end of the scene a blue long lid appears on the pink tube.

Factual error: The mall that the plastics state they are going to, Old Archard as stated by Cady, is an outside mall. However, the mall they go to is an indoor mall.

Continuity: When Cady is starting her first day of school and her parents are saying goodbye, she starts to walk up to the high school. Her dad starts to walk away while her mom stays standing there. In the next shot where it shows Cady's face, her mom and dad are still watching her together.

Continuity: When Regina becomes angry, and writes the horrible message in the burn book about herself to frame Cady and the others, the handwriting changes between shots. Look at "DO NOT TRUST HER" and "She is a fugly slut." - The handwriting changes noticeably, and "fugly slut" changes a lot - she writes it so the "g" and "y" have curled ends, yet it cuts to her sticking her photo in, and the ends to the tails on the "g" and "y" are straight. The line under "fugly slut," and the exclamation mark both change too.

Continuity: When Cady and Gretchen call Regina, without Regina knowing Gretchen is on the line, and then Karen is called, it is definitely night time outside the windows of Cady and Gretchen's. However, daylight pours in Karen and Regina's windows. They are all calling each other at the same time.

Continuity: Cady breaks up her Spring Fling tiara that she receives. On stage, she breaks it up into many pieces and throws them out into the crowds; it is clear that the amount we see being thrown into the crowds is a major amount of pieces - almost too much from just one tiara. However then when she leaves the stage, we see her holding approximately half of the tiara still. This would not be possible from the aforementioned amount that Cady has already snapped off and thrown into the crowd.

Revealing: In the scene where Mrs George is taking pictures of the girls for the Halloween concert you can see that the camera is turned off.

Continuity: When Cady enters the dance after the Mathletes competition, her sleeve is down past her arms and we cannot see her hand. In the next shot, the sleeve is rolled up and her hand is visible.

Continuity: When Cady is trying to get out of going to Madison, watch the level of her Dad's glass of water. From the first shot of the table to when he picks it up whilst saying "I think Cady's old enough..." the water level lowers.

Continuity: In the wake of the candy-cane grams, Gretchen's arms change from above her shoulders to on the desk.

Visible crew/equipment: Before Cady enters the house, when one of her best friends is watching a movie the reflection of a crew member is visible on the TV.

Factual error: The snake that Cady's dad is shown holding in the clips from Africa is a Burmese python. These snakes are not found in Africa.

Continuity: In the winter talent show scene, you see Gretchen go to kick the boom box in hopes of fixing the skipping CD, but when she kicks it you see it start to just fall off the stage. Yet in the next shot the CD player shoots forward and hits Gretchen's boyfriend, as if she had kicked it a lot harder than she actually did.

Deliberate "mistake": When Cady is breaking the 'plastic' crown into bits and throwing the pieces to people in the crowd, it's not possible to have that many pieces from that one crown. She must give out at least 7 or 8 big chunks, which just doesn't truly reflect the size of the crown.

Continuity: When the Plastics are explaining to Cady the "rules" at lunch, an extra in a red shirt walks directly in front of the camera, and then a couple of seconds later, she walks in front of the camera again walking the same direction that she was walking the first time she passed the camera.

Continuity: In the Spring Fling scene, when Cady and Aaron are dancing, it alternates shots between Cady's face and Aaron's. Her arm is on his shoulder in one shot and the next shot it is on his arm. This happens a couple of times in the same section of that scene. Really obvious.

Revealing: When Cady's math teacher spills coffee all over her shirt, you can see the hand that is to your left is pulling her shirt up with her sweater and rapidly lets go.

Continuity: As Regina is about to write the things about herself in the Burn Book, as she flips to a new page we can briefly see the page about Miss Norbury on it, and it doesn't say "Ms Norbury is a pusher. A sad old drug pusher," but later on when Miss Norbury picks up a photocopied sheet of the same page, it does have the previous comments written in.

Audio problem: When Janis shouts at Cady out of Damian's car, Cady says "It's not my fault you're like in love with me, or something.", and then after she says this, her mouth visibly moves to more words but no audio is heard.

Continuity: In the opening shot of Cady in calculus class, as her voice-over says "I was so happy to get to math class", the big textbook sitting on her desk alternates from closed to open. This happens again after Cady says "So Cute..."

Continuity: When Cady comes home from her first day her father sets down his book on the notepad on the desk as he sees her. In the next shot as she goes inside the book has moved back.

Revealing: Regina writes comments about herself in the Burn Book, at the top of the page in red marker. Later, when Mr DuVall has the book, he opens in saying "Why would Regina refer to herself..." and he then looks at the page and reads "... as a Fugly Slut?" However, watch as Mr DuVall opens the Burn Book - the page he has it opened at it blank at the top and there is no writing on it at all.

Continuity: On Cady's first day of school, she introduces herself to a student who she thinks is the teacher. If you look directly behind them, there is a girl with a white sweater and blonde hair walking in front of the blackboard who almost reaches the end. The shot changes and the girl is farther away, then it happens again in the next shot.

Continuity: Just before Regina gets run over by the bus, watch her hair. It changes from on her shoulder to behind her neck between shots.

Factual error: In one if the final scenes where Cady is competing against contestant Kraft, Kraft states that the answer to the math problem is 'the limit is negative one' and is told the answer is incorrect. It is actually correct.

Continuity: While the girls go wild in the hallway, the principal breaks the glass with a bat making the sprinklers come on. When he yells, "All junior girls report to the gymnasium immediately," in the following shots all their shirts are dry.

Continuity: When the girls are rioting a boy gets on his mobile phone asking his mother to come and get him because he is frightened. The same girl in the stripy top and denim skirt runs down the stairs behind him twice within a few seconds.

Factual error: During the scene where Ms Norbury passes back the failing grade on the math tests and states she needs it signed by her parents, the test states it's the "Limits Test" but the test is on invergence and divergece of infinite series.

Audio problem: At the beginning of the movie when Cady is leaving her parents to go to school she almost gets hit by a bus you can hear her mom scream. In the next shot of her mom you see her scream but nothing comes out.

Continuity: At the start of the film as Cady's Dad gives Cady her lunch bag, he has nothing round his neck. But in the next shot the camera is around his neck.

Continuity: When we see the first shot of Regina throw a pile of Burn Book sheets to the floor, they fall and all spread out. Then she sticks a sheet about Trang Pak up and then in the next shot as she continues to walk, the sheets she first dropped behind her on the floor are all much closer together in a different position.

Factual error: While the plastics are at the mall there is a Bell Mobility booth seen behind them. This booth wouldn't be found in an American mall as they only service Canada.

Continuity: When Cady is outside on the field with Janice and Damian supposedly going to the back building, there is a very large shadow in front of the rugby goalpost in the background (behind Cady) which keeps disappearing / reappearing.

Continuity: After Cady bumps into the teacher, she puts a box of Donuts onto the desk. There isn't anything on the box, then in one shot two text books appear on top of the Donut box. They then disappear in the next shot.

Continuity: When the Plastics spot Gretchen's crush, between shots Gretchen goes from having her arm by her side, to playing with her necklace.

Continuity: Before Regina starts writing the nasty things about herself in the "Burn Book", there is a red pen on the floor near the book. The next shot in a closeup of the book the pen has now moved to being right next to the book.

Continuity: Between the first two shots of sex-ed on the second day of school, a key hanging around the coach's neck goes from hanging out of his tracksuit, to inside his tracksuit.

Continuity: At the beginning of the second day of school, Janis jumps from toying with a pencil below her waist to above her shoulder.

Other: The word Artist is spelled "Artitst" on the senior artist credit.

Continuity: In the scene where Santa comes in with the candy cane gram, as the camera cuts on and off of Cady, you will notice that her hands move from on top of her desk to in her lap a couple of times.

Continuity: In the wings after the Jingle Bell Rock dance, Aaron has his arms around Cady and Regina. Just as Kevin leaves we can see Aaron's hand is on Cady's shoulder, but in the next shot it is down by his side.

Continuity: On Cady's first day at her new school, she walks toward the front entrance through a crowd of kids. A Black girl with a green comb in her hair approaches Cady from the right and passes without incident. Yet in the very next shot, the same girl again approaches Cady and purposely bumps into her.

Continuity: When Regina is being carried by some boys on the field, her "R" necklace is hanging out of her blue P.E. shirt. When they put her down it is tucked under her shirt, then when she blows a kiss it is back out again.

Continuity: When Cady is talking to Regina on the phone, and Regina says she thinks someone nominated Gretchen as a joke, she is eating a chocolate donut. Between shots the bites in the donut completely differ.

Continuity: When Cady is at the Halloween party her face is painted white/gray. when she comes through the door to see Damian and Janis her face has changed from white/gray to a more green.

Factual error: When the girls are going wild, the two Chinese girls, who made out with Coach Carr, fight and argue. There is a subtitled translation at the bottom of the screen and one of the girls' lines is translated, "Your the slut." This should have said, "You're the slut," because "your" shows possession, whereas "you're" means "you are", which is correct.

Continuity: In the scene near the end of the movie, where Janis is dancing with K.G., after Janis tells him that she's Lebanese, she smiles. The next shot, she's not smiling.

Continuity: When in Regina's bedroom, Regina takes off her pink cardigan, and puts it on a couch, just before the Plastics examine themselves in the mirror. When Regina's mum brings in drinks for them though, the top is positioned much differently.

Continuity: When Regina is by her car after Cady's party, Regina says something about the Caltine bars and her boyfriend says that they are for weight gain. Regina spits it out and at one point you can see her boyfriend putting his cup up to his lips, then the shot changes to the other side of the car and his arms are down straight.

Continuity: At the Halloween party, Karen tilts her head as she ponders cousin relationships, but in the next shot she's upright again.

Continuity: When Mr. Duvall takes the mic after Cady's speech at the Spring Fling, he steps with his left shoulder forward. In the next shot, his right shoulder is forward.

Continuity: When the Plastics are at the mall and they spot Gretchen's crush with another girl, in one shot, Karen is playing with her watch, in the next shot her arms are folded.

Continuity: When Regina is asking Cady about her home schooling, Regina's hair starts to fall over her shoulder, then the shot changes and it is back behind her shoulder.

Continuity: During the dance scene, the captain of the Mathletes goes up to Cady's friend that does the art and starts dancing with her. At first she's smiling, but the next shot shows her with a straight face.

Continuity: When the Regina posts the Burn Book around school the "wanna-bees" are fighting. One girl goes, "You bitch!" and the other goes "You're the bitch!" and they start to fight. While they are fighting they jump onto a table and it breaks. If you look into the backround, you see Jason and his 2 friends turn around because they heard the noise of the table breaking and the girls fighting, and Jason's friend on the right puts his hand on Jason. When the camera changes shots his hand is on his heart.

Continuity: When the Mathletes are entering the spring fling, Cady's hands are in her jacket. When the shot changes, her hands are out of her jacket and can be seen.

Revealing: When the Plastics are walking down the hallway together, Cady falls into a trashcan. The trashcan stays upright, but it should tip over from the way she went in, the momentum and her bodyweight. Just a few shots prior to this, a janitor, on the left side of the screen, is seen moving that trash can, so it is apparent that it is not bolted to the ground.

Continuity: When Regina is talking to Cady about Janis, Cady is wearing a light blue ribbon in her hair. As the scenes cut in and out of Cady the ribbon changes from front to back a few times.

Audio problem: When the Spring Fling Queen nominations are being announced applause can be heard for both Janis and Cady but no one in the class is clapping.
