Mark overuses a drug designed to chemically tan, thus achieving the required darkness to pass as a black. Problem is, it would darken his palms, and would immediately trigger suspicions by any actual black..including Sarah Walker. [No, it would not. The palms of the hands and the soles of the feet do not tan - they do not have melanin secreting skin cells to produce a tanning effect.]
