The Punisher (2004) - 47 mistakes

Continuity: After Frank Castle climbs out of his flipped Pontiac GTO, Harry Heck walks up and points his shotgun at Frank. Frank points a closed switchblade knife at Harry and pushes the button, sending the knife blade flying into Harry's neck. When it switches back to Frank, there is still a blade on the knife, in the open position. After a cut to Harry, it switches back to Frank and the knife blade is gone.

Continuity: When Saint's men murder Castle's family, the man who tried to escape on the motorcycle is shot and falls off next to the motorcycle. The motorcycle slides and comes to rest with the back of the motorcycle facing the large deck and ocean. However, when Castle chases his wife and son, he picks up the motorcycle, and it is turned around with the front facing the ocean.

Continuity: When Frank crashes his Pontiac after speeding away from Harry Heck, Heck pulls up and walks up to Frank who is climbing out of his car. As he walks up, a piece of car is on the right side of Heck, but after Frank kills Heck, it cuts to an overhead shot and the piece of car is now on his left.

Visible crew/equipment: In the shot where the 4x4 flips, you can see a stunt driver and a dummy inside the vehicle.

Continuity: When the Punisher is eating in the diner, Harry Heck walks in and when he stops at his table the red chair is tucked into the table, but in the next shot when he sits, the chair is facing out.

Continuity: When Castle and Joan are talking and Joan is touching Castle's face, there is a shot where her hand is no longer touching his face. In the following shot her hand is back on his face.

Continuity: When Saint's men knock down Frank's wife and son, Frank arrives and starts shooting at the 4x4. The wife and kid have their heads and bodies some distance from each other, but a few shots later they are a lot closer, and their heads are almost head to head.

Continuity: When Frank's wife is driving away from Howard Saint's men, in one particular shot when she hits the red 4x4, out the back window there is grass on both sides, and a sand track/road, but in the next shot the landscape changes somewhat, and the the red 4x4 changes its distance. (Use slow motion or frame by frame.)

Continuity: When Saints's men are killing Castle's family, there is a shot of Frank and his dad shooting at one of the guys behind the barbecue stand. In one shot Frank and his dad shoot the salad bowl and most of the salad comes out, then in the following shot the salad has magically reappeared.

Continuity: Whilst being chased by Harry Heck, Castle drives through a railroad gate. As he does so a piece of wood seems to get jammed or stuck on his right headlight. In the very next shot, the piece of wood is nowhere in sight, not even on the road.

Revealing: As the truck that Castle's wife is driving flips, you can see a burst of smoke or compressed air under the passenger side. Once the truck has stopped rolling, you can see a piece of U-channel bolted across the underside with a cylinder on the passenger side, which was used to help the truck roll over.

Continuity: When Frank is pulling down the gravestone with a chain, in the shot from the front, William's is to the left about a foot away and Maria's is to the right, the same distance. In the shot from behind the stone, there is another stone you can just about see on the right of the screen and it can't be William's because this stone, or something, is directly behind Frank's.

Visible crew/equipment: When Howard Saint's men begin to chase after Frank's wife in their red 4x4, just after a couple of guys jump in the back, the camera pans forward to get a view of the driver. As the camera pans forward a boom mic with a large pole is visible in the reflection on the car.

Continuity: When Frank walks up to Saint's son, Frank waives a white flag, but between shots his position changes from being really close to Bobby, to being at least a foot away and his body side on.

Continuity: When Castle's father is making a toast at the family reunion, his martini class spills slightly towards Frank Castle, causing Frank to flinch and laugh at his dad's drunkenness. However, the shot changes to a different angle and Frank is sitting down as if he never moved.

Continuity: At the end, when Howard Saint is being dragged behind the car into the lot full of burning cars, he is catching on fire in a close up. Then in a far shot and Saint is no longer on fire, but in the next close up he is on fire again.

Continuity: When Frank returns to his apartment after shooting the two guys in the lobby of the Saint building, the two tenants, the big guy and the small guy with the piercings fall out of the door and onto the floor. When they land the small guy has his left arm outstretched above his head, but in the following shot it is no longer outstretched.

Continuity: When Howard's men bail the guy out who was with Bobby Saint at the arms deal, they are beating him up in Saint's club. When Quentin says his line after grabbing the guy by the hair he sits back in his chair. In the wide shot his cigarette is under his hand and is about to take a puff, but in the following shot the cigarette is nowhere near his mouth and it is now in his fingers.

Continuity: When Frank and his wife are on the beach after Frank's dad's speech at the beach house, Frank's wife is putting her hand on his face and her hand changes position on his cheek between shots.

Continuity: When Frank sits up after being dragged out of the ambulance by his friends, he takes off his jacket with his hands/arms behind his back, but in the following shot his hands/arms have switched and are now at the front.

Continuity: When Howard's men have killed all of Frank's family and are chasing after his wife, they catch up with her and fire upon her 4x4. In the first shots her left brake light is out, but in the following shot its back on, and also if you zoom in you can see the stunt driver with two strong belts going down each shoulder.

Continuity: When Frank's family are at a beach-house, while his dad is making a speech Frank is looking at his wife, but in the following shot he is looking at his dad standing up with his right arm up to his cheek, which wasn't there in the previous shot.

Continuity: When Frank crashes his car and Harry Heck pulls up in his, note the distance from Heck's car to Frank's car, perhaps only a foot, yet when it cuts to an overhead shot, Heck's car is now quite some distance away from Frank's without anyone moving it.

Continuity: When the cops turn up at the firearms deal, someone says, "Your under arrest," and there are two to three cops. When Frank says his line, the camera cuts to an overhead shot and there are now 6 cops all grouped together standing only a few feet from Bobby, Frank and the others.

Continuity: When Harry Heck is taking out his guitar from its case, watch as he puts his cigarette between his ring and pinkie fingers, then watch as it appears back in his mouth and then back between his fingers without time to make the switch.

Continuity: When Frank's family is being attacked, Frank and his father are inside the house fighting with some thug hiding behind the barbecue stand. At one point a shotgun shot is visible in the black metal lid on the left of the stand. In the next shot, the lid is intact, and then when the gas bottles blow up, it's shot again.

Continuity: When the Punisher is pretending to burn the man with the torch and then lets him down, in one shot the popsicle stick is showing and on the later shots the top of the stick is no longer visible.

Continuity: The bullet-hole scar on Frank's chest moves closer to, and further away from his sternum several times during the film.

Other: When Frank and the Russian are throwing each other through the walls in Frank's apartment, and then through the door in Bumbo's apartment, there are no studs in the walls and the doorway, like there should have been.

Continuity: During the dinner scene, when Frank and Joan almost kiss, they keep changing distance to each other. Every time the shot is from over his shoulder, their faces are really close together, almost touching. When the shot is from over her shoulder, they are further apart.

Visible crew/equipment: When the bad-guys blow Frank up towards the beginning, as they drive away the camera pans with the car, and you can make out the shadow of several crew members and possibly the camera at the bottom right of the screen.

Continuity: When Frank gets invited to dinner by his neighbours, after saying thanksgiving, the two guys leave leaving Joan and Frank alone to talk. In the first shot Joan is standing up from her seat, but in the following shot she is on the other side of the table (length ways, not width ways).

Continuity: After the Punisher has shot Howard Saint, he tosses down his pictures of Quinton, proving that his wife was never unfaithful. When he first tosses the pictures, at least one lands a few inches beyond Saint's head, and the rest all apart. But in the next shot, they are all together, in front of his eyes (and all facing the same general direction, conveniently).

Continuity: When Maria is fleeing from Saint's men, the boat cracks the windshield of their 4x4, but in the following shot the windshield is completely intact.

Revealing: When the older Saint boy is pointing his gun at Frank's chest, you can see the squib under his shirt, you don't actually see him get shot until the flashback later in the movie, but you can see that the blood explodes from the same spot.

Continuity: Near the end, when Howard is in Quentin's place moving furniture, when he gets to the last chair near the fireplace in the overhead shot he just moves it with his foot, but in the following closeup he has his left hand on the marble above the fireplace.

Continuity: When Saint's son is on the boat full of money, and he hears a sound, he has a cigarette in his right hand, but in the following shot the cigarette is in his mouth.

Continuity: When the three tenants of the apartment where Frank is staying come out of their rooms to investigate the noise, Joan walks up to the window and before she gets to the window crosses her arms, but in the following shot she is crossing her arms again.

Continuity: At the end of the film when Frank Castle is standing over Howard, Frank grabs Saint's right leg (you can tell its his right leg by looking at the shoe), but in the following shot he is holding Saint by the left leg.

Continuity: In the lobby scene, before Frank Castle shoots two of Howard Saints men, he puts down his briefcase, and brushes his coat back, and in the following shot he brushes his coat back again.

Continuity: When Frank Castle starts to shoot at Saint's Men, he shoots at the 4x4's grill, destroying part of it, but in the following shot, it has repaired itself.

Audio problem: At his "pool party", Mr. Saint is talking to a group of men, and there is a female singer standing in the background, her mouth is moving as though she is singing, but there is only music from the band.

Plot hole: Howard can't find Frank for days, but Harry Heck can find him in less than a day and in the exact restaurant.

Continuity: When Howard's men are beating up the guy in Howard's club, Howard walks in and points a gun at the guy on the floor. The guy is wearing a jacket which sits on his shoulders close to his neck, but in the following close-up the jacket has moved somewhat off of his shoulder exposing his top under the jacket.

Continuity: After Frank shoots Howard Saint, when he goes to tie him onto the car Howard's hands change from resting close to his belly to resting on the floor.

Continuity: When Frank is positioning the fire hydrant he has trouble moving it due to its weight. Yet only a minute earlier he was carrying it quite easily in a bag a good few inches above the ground.

Deliberate "mistake": When Saint is being dragged through the parking lot with all the exploding cars, there are a few shots where it is obviously just a dummy instead of John Travolta (the actor who played Saint).
