The Whole Ten Yards (2004) - 107 mistakes

Continuity: After Jill has shot Jimmy she grabs her face crying. When it cuts her hands aren't on her face.

Continuity: When the waitress is done pouring wine into Oz's glass, she puts the bottle into the wine cooler. When it cuts to a closeup of Cynthia, the waitress is still holding the bottle.

Continuity: Near the end of the movie, when everyone has been "captured", Jill rips the crucifix and chain off of Jimmy's neck and throws it at Cynthia. In his next closeup, you can still see the chain on Bruce's neck.

Continuity: When Cynthia is driving down the road talking to Jimmy on her cell, she hangs up twice at the end of the conversation.

Continuity: Early in the movie, when Jill St. Claire tip-toes into the house while Jimmy the Tulip is busy with household chores, she invariably gets caught by the new family man anyway and eventually takes the argument with him upstairs to the bedroom. Carrying on the shouting match with her husband while getting change in front of the closet, a pair of shiny silver handcuffs (most likely the kinky kind - what business could a hitman possibly have with handcuffs?) can be seen hanging behind her head. By the time the outer layer of her clothing is stripped, the handcuffs disappear.

Continuity: When Cynthia tells Oz she is pregnant on the phone Oz removes the phone from his ear and shouts "We're pregnant". When it cuts the phone is back to his ear.

Continuity: When Strabo falls down the stairs, his hands are shown untied (what stuntman would want to roll down a staircase with tied hands?), but then in the next shot his hands are again tied. Before and after the roll, they are tied, but not during.

Other: Towards the beginning of the film when Oz talks to Jill on his cell phone in the car and he hangs up, you hear Jill answer Jimmy in Oz's cell phone.

Continuity: The first time Bruce Willis talks to Matthew Perry on the phone Bruce holds the phone in his right hand. Bruce's watch changes positions, well below that bump/bone below the wrist to above the bump/bone and then below again. Bruce never lowers his arm, or the phone, to cause the watch to move.

Continuity: As Jimmy gets to the surprise covered by a blanket we see his hand about to grab the blanket. When it cuts his hand is lowered and he grabs it again.

Continuity: When Jimmy gets to Oz's office, Oz is leaning on a rack with two jackets. It falls down and Oz picks it up again, but now only one jacket is on the rack. When it cuts, suddenly both jackets are hanging on it.

Continuity: At the bar, when they are drinking, Jimmy asks Oz if he had a good relationship with his father. Oz takes a sip from his bottle. When it cuts, the bottle is gone.

Visible crew/equipment: Towards the beginning of the movie, Lazlo shoots the two men that are in the trunk of the car. When they arrive and Lazlo opens the door, in the car door you can see the camera crew. You can even see them move as they follow Lazlo.

Continuity: When Cynthia calls Jimmy on the phone you can see Jimmy's necklace chain on both sides of his chest. When it cuts to a close-up of him one side of the chain is hidden under his shirt.

Continuity: When Jill finds the half dollar bill, the bill suddenly flips in her hands during the shots.

Continuity: When Jill gets back home and takes off her shoes, we see her dropping her bags on both her sides. When it cuts one of the bags is in front of her.

Continuity: When Strabo is pointing his gun at Oz and Oz hits it with his flowers, a shot goes off. Then it shows a lamp being hit. A split second later the vase beside it also breaks. There shouldn't be a split second between the two items breaking. A gunshot at that range would make both the lamp and the vase break at the same time.

Deliberate "mistake": When Lazlo is hiding the dollar bill in the painting, look closely and you will see the scene is played backwards. Ashes from his cigarette flies back up and smoke from the cigarette comes down.

Continuity: When Jimmy says "Murdering another human being can be a moving experience" to Jill, you see Jill wiping her nose on Jimmy's collar. When it cuts she isn't wiping.

Continuity: Near the end, when Oz is going off on his secretary, he mentions that Jimmy fed him chicken, but it was lobster.

Continuity: When Jill is standing over Lazlo ready to shoot him, Jimmy tosses her a rope, which she quickly drops on the floor. In the next shot the rope is back in her hand.

Continuity: The damage done to the rental car changes from the time Jill leaves the hotel parking lot (when she's mad at Jimmy) and when she is shown driving it on the street.

Continuity: At the beginning, when Lazlo gets the dollar bill to tear in half, he pulls the bill out of the little black box twice.

Continuity: When Jill gets home you can see her closing the door. When it cuts to her walking away from the door, you can see that it is a different door.

Continuity: When the man Jill is about to kill slips on the tomato sauce you see him grabbing the cloth on the table. When it cuts, the cloth is gone.

Continuity: When Jimmy throws Oz at the painting leaving it askew. Later when Oz wakes up the painting is straight again, without anyone being near it.

Continuity: When Lazlo's men begin to shoot inside Oz' house, Oz runs out. At the same time Lazlo turns on the light. Then we hear the engine on Oz' car start. It's impossible for Oz to have gotten to his car THAT fast.

Continuity: In the beginning when Jill sits down by Jimmy and start crying, in frontal shots some of her hair is hanging down her face. In shots from the side the hair is gone.

Continuity: When Jimmy throws Oz to the wall and Oz falls on the bed, Oz is lying in the middle of the bed. When it cuts to Jimmy standing next to him Oz is closer to the edge of the bed.

Continuity: When Strabo picks up the knife from the jug with his mouth, the jug remains standing. When it cuts the jug has suddenly tipped over.

Audio problem: When Oz, Jimmy and Jill is driving away from Lazlo and his men shooting at their house, the car wheels squeals on sand.

Continuity: When Lazlo gets back home, his mom and Cynthia is sitting on the couch. Cynthia has a cup and places it on the plate, while Lazlo's mom doesn't have a cup. When it cuts Cynthia has the cup back in her hands and Lazlo's mom suddenly has a cup as well.

Continuity: At the restaurant when the man is arguing with the waitress about his coffee there is a shot of him from behind where you can see him sitting still. When it cuts to a closeup of him he is waving his hands around.

Continuity: When Oz, Jill and Jimmy are eating and Oz is arguing about why they had to dump his car and rent a new car, Jimmy says "Someday you will". If you look out the window you can see a woman wearing a red and yellow shirt walking by. When it cuts you can see the same woman standing outside the window, but now she is standing in the opposite direction of which she was walking.

Continuity: On the bus when Jimmy grabs Oz' face and lets go of it, we see Jimmy putting his hand down. When it cuts Jimmy has his hand to his head and puts it down again.

Continuity: When Jill is pointing her gun at Jimmy, she changes between gripping the gun with both hands and with one hand. This happens multiple times during the scene.

Continuity: When Oz and Jimmy are getting drunk and Jimmy says "God is counting my seeds" you see him holding his left hand to his head. When it cuts he is pointing with his left hand.

Continuity: When Jill and Jimmy are arguing at the motel, Oz tells Strabo that Jimmy killed 21 people. Later at the bar when Jimmy is very drunk, he tells Oz that he has killed 21 people. Oz corrects him and says, "22 people", and Jimmy says, "Who'd I forget". Oz replies with "Frankie Figgs". Apparently Oz had forgotten that information as well when he was bragging to Strabo earlier. (Also, why would Oz know who Jimmy had forgotten?).

Continuity: When Jimmy, Oz, and Jill stop for dinner on the bus ride, Jimmy tucks a napkin in his shirt under his chin. Several shots in the scene show no napkin.

Audio problem: When Jill comes home, takes off her shoes and leaves the living room, Jimmy runs after her shouting "Don't go in there, there is a surprise in there.". However as we see him come running into the room we can see he doesn't move his mouth at all.

Continuity: When Jill calls for Oz in order to seduce him, you see Oz entering and moving away from the door. When it cuts he is by the door again still moving away.

Continuity: When Oz is looking at his wife through the surveillance cameras, the toothbrush he is holding changes from his mouth to his hand a few times.

Continuity: When Oz is having a conversation with his wife, Cynthia, over lunch/brunch in a restaurant in LA, there are two bouquets of black and white balloons for the two tables behind Oz, one off to the side of the screen on Oz's left. Just after Oz quickly ducks under the table, the next wider shot shows that one of bouquets right behind Oz is no longer there.

Continuity: Near the end of the movie when Lazlo sits on the couch he has a lit cigarette, the shot cuts to Jill then back to Lazlo his cigarette is not lit then in the next shot it is lit again.

Plot hole: Jimmy tells Oz to "pull out the wires" from under the dashboard to hotwire the car. Firstly, car manufacturers (including Buick) don't have the ignition wiring that is easily accessible, and secondly, assuming the car didn't have an immobiliser, at what point was the steering lock broken? Er, it wasn't.

Continuity: In the scene with the buttercup scout, Cynthia takes the gun from Oz and after Oz walks off she turns around twice to lay the gun down.

Continuity: When Jill and Jimmy are arguing and Jill says "There is something wrong with you", she points at Jimmy. Jimmy then starts denying this and turns around. When it cuts Jill is no longer pointing at him.

Continuity: When Oz, Jill and Jimmy run through the door hidden behind a closet, as it cuts from inside you can see them turning right immediately as they get in the door. You can also see a banister by the entrance. When it cuts to outside you see them running straight ahead. This means that they in fact are running through the banister, however the banister is now gone.

Visible crew/equipment: When Oz gets home, Lazlo is sitting by his piano. When Lazlo gets up from the piano while saying "Your wife is in a safe," you can see a man's face reflected in the window to the left on the screen. It's not one of Lazlo's men, because they haven't entered the living room yet, and it can't be Oz's face, because he is sitting too far away from the window.

Continuity: When Oz tells Jill and Jimmy that Cynthia is pregnant, Jill says "Oh my God, that's great.", Oz turns his head towards Jimmy. When it cuts, Oz is looking at Jill.

Continuity: When Lazlo gets out of prison, right before he calls for Strabo, you see the prison guard start walking in the gate. When it cuts, he starts walking again.

Continuity: When Lazlo says "If she moves put your cane in her eye" to his mother, Cynthia is sitting with her hands down. When it cuts her hands are under her chin.

Continuity: When Lazlo gets tired of the kids fighting he shouts for them and lifts his right hand. When it cuts he is holding up his left hand.

Continuity: When Oz, Jill and Jimmy are out and about to eat and Jill asks if she should get some mustard, Oz has both his hands down. When it cuts his right hand is on the table.

Continuity: At the end when they are driving away in the car and Oz says "This is too much. It's great, but too much." Jimmy is patting him on his shoulders. When it cuts Jimmy's hand is gone from his shoulders.

Continuity: When Strabo is tied to the chair and falls down the stairs, the chair remains whole at the top of the stairs. Later when Oz looks down the stairs the chair is at the bottom and is totally broken, and even if it fell down by itself it wouldn't have been smashed to pieces like that.

Continuity: When Lazlo shoots the men in the trunk, the man behind him grabs his hat with one hand. When it cuts it shows him grabbing the hat with both hands.

Continuity: When Lazlo is tearing the dollar bill apart we can see he tears it all the way. When it cuts he is still tearing it.

Continuity: Home at Oz, when Lazlo is giving him hints about who he is, and Oz says "Do you guys understand any of this?", we can see two pillows on the couch. One of them is under Oz' arm. When it cuts the one under Oz' arm is gone and one pillow is now behind his back.

Continuity: When Jimmy gets off the phone with Lazlo and Oz asks "What did he say?", Oz puts his hand to his face. When it cuts his hand is gone.

Continuity: When Oz is about to give Strabo mouth to mouth, his magnifying glass attached to his forehead change position during the shots.

Continuity: When Jimmy jumps through the glasses on the bar table he lands on his back. When it cuts he is lying on his side.

Continuity: In the beginning when Jill explains her failed hit, we can see that she grabs the shotgun from the trolley twice.

Continuity: When Lazlo's men are shooting at Jimmy's house there is a shot of Oz getting up from behind a counter and banging his head to a frying pan. We can see the pan start falling, however when it cuts no pan is seen falling. It wouldn't have fell to the ground this fast.

Continuity: When Oz opens the door for the buttercup scout girl, he's holding his gun with his left hand. When it cuts he is holding it with both hands.

Continuity: In the scene where Oz and Jimmy are in the bar drinking shots, Jimmy's arm switches from up towards his head, then down, then up again, while they are talking.

Continuity: When Jill is seducing Oz in the hotel room, Oz takes a blue shirt off a hanger in the closet and throws it on the floor. In the next shot, the blue shirt is back on the hanger. In the remaining shots, the blue shirt is gone.

Continuity: When Jill is telling about her bad hit, we see her swing her shotgun into the bowl of tomato sauce. First she swing the shotgun from the left. When it cuts to a closeup we see it swings from the right.

Visible crew/equipment: When they get to the restaurant in Oceanside and Oz says "We had a car. My car.", we can see the camera and the camera man move sideways reflected in the window.

Continuity: When Oz and Jimmy are at the bar, the salt on the table change position during the shots.

Continuity: When Jill is mad about Jimmy's crucifix and says "It's so ugly, why don't you just throw it away?" she is walking backwards. When it cuts she is walking normal.

Continuity: When Lazlo's men are shooting at Jimmy's house and Oz bangs his head in a pan, there are different items on the table in front of him. When he gets up the items have changed position.

Continuity: When Oz is about to go buy bus tickets and Jimmy says "Do that squeeler.", Jill is walking behind Jimmy. When it cuts Jill is in front of Jimmy.

Plot hole: Why do they need both halves of the torn dollar bill to access the bank account? All American bills have a copy of the serial number on each half, no matter which way you tear it, as long as it is in roughly equal parts (top and bottom or left and right).

Continuity: In a late scene in the movie when Jill St. Claire angrily drives away after arguing with her husband in the parking lot of the motel, the side shot of Jimmy the Tulip shows his golden lucky charm dangling from his neck outside his white t-shirt. In the next frontal shot when he turns around to talk to Oz, the necklace is now tucked back inside his t-shirt.

Continuity: During Oz and Cynthia's lunch to celebrate the baby news, Cynthia's hair is over her shoulder for almost all of the shots from the back, but behind her shoulder for almost all of the shots from the front.

Continuity: When Oz gets up from his couch and the man punches him in the stomach, Oz jumps. When it cuts he jumps again.

Continuity: After Jules has chloroformed Jimmy she pulls up her gun while holding the cloth with chloroform. The way she holds the gun and the cloth changes during the shots.

Continuity: When Jill drops the bowl of tomato sauce on the floor we can see a fork lying in the tomato sauce. When it cuts to her beginning to clean up, the fork is gone.

Continuity: When Oz jumps out of bed and falls on the floor we can see a green carpet on the bed. In the next shot Oz has that carpet around him. When it cuts again the carpet is back on the bed.

Continuity: When Lazlo is picked up outside prison and he gets in the car, there is some snow on the wind shield of the car. When the car drives away there is much more snow than earlier, and it isn't snowing.

Continuity: When Jill grabs Oz while trying to seduce him, she holds her arms over his. When it cuts her arms are under his.

Continuity: When Lazlo reaches his hand into the safe, his hand moves some boxes in the safe. When it cuts to a closeup in the safe the boxes haven't moved at all.

Continuity: When Strabo and Cynthia are sitting on the couch Cynthia's hair and medallion changes position during the shots.

Continuity: After Oz says Cynthia is pregnant, Jimmy starts crying. Oz points at him with his right hand. When it cuts he is pointing with his left arm.

Continuity: When Oz says "Think of it as a swimming pool" about the moat, Cynthia is resting her arms normal on the table. When it cuts her hands are folded.

Other: When Strabo leaves the car and about to go kill Oz, Lazlo slaps him. It is quite obvious the hand isn't even near Strabo's face.

Continuity: When Jimmy enters the room and sees Jill trying to seduce Oz, Jill grabs a towel to cover her breasts, we can see her holding the top of the towel with one hand. When it cuts she is using both hands.

Continuity: When Oz and Cynthia are discussing her pregnancy and she says "Don't ruin this," a waitress pours wine into Oz's glass, then she stops. When it cuts, she is still pouring wine into the glass.

Continuity: When Jill says to Jimmy, "For two years, I have been begging you to go back to work and then when Cynthia gets kidnapped you're off to the races," the strap on the right shoulder of her top falls down, but in the next shot it is back up.

Continuity: In the beginning of the movie, Lazlo is writing on some paper and it shows him writing with his left hand but when they cut away they show him holding the pen in his right hand.

Continuity: Towards the end of the movie when Amanda Peet is holding half of a dollar bill and Howard Deutch is holding the other half, the position of the ripped dollar in Amanda Peet's hand changes between shots.

Plot hole: When Jimmy calls Jill in order to get his bag back she is let in on the entire thing and gets to play her part in rescuing Oz and Cynthia. She asks Jimmy if he would have called if he hadn't grabbed the wrong bag to which the answer was no since his intention was to drive her away in order to protect her. Jimmy tells her to remember everything he has told her (which I'm assuming was for her role in the upcoming rescue) but since he tried to drive her away and they had not talked since their big fight when did Jimmy get an opportunity to tell Jill what to do in the first place?

Revealing: When Oz asks Strabo "How is that implant treating you?", the camera start moving sideways from behind Strabo. When the camera gets to the side of Strabo we can see a paper on the wall swinging behind Strabo. This paper is swinging because a crew member has bumped into it.

Continuity: When Lazlo and his men raid Oz's house, all of them have a chat in the living room. Watch the men standing behind Lazlo. Their positions, as well as the number (3 or 4 men depending on the shot), keep changing around.

Continuity: When Lazlo's boys are shooting at Jimmy and Jill's home, Lazlo opens his cigarette case twice.

Audio problem: Even when Oz has hung up the phone with Lazlo you can still hear Lazlo saying "Can you hear me?".

Continuity: When Lazlo and his men park their car in the junk yard, they park in the shade. When it cuts, the sun is shining on their car.

Continuity: When Jimmy says "So how did the hit go?" to Jill, she hangs her jacket in the closet. A few shots later when she begins explaining her hit, the jacket is gone.

Continuity: When Jill tells Oz to smell her perfume Jill has her arm up by her neck. In the next shot her arm is lowered, and in the following shot her arm is by her neck.

Continuity: At the restaurant when the man begin arguing about his coffee, we see Jimmy putting down his napkin. When it cuts from behind Jimmy he is still wiping his mouth with his napkin.

Continuity: When Oz, Jill and Jimmy are at the dinner table, there is a vase standing in the middle of the table. The vase move closer to the edge during the shots.

Continuity: When Strabo is unconscious in the dentist chair his mouth is open. When it cuts from outside the office door the mouth is closed. Back inside the mouth is open again.

Continuity: When Lazlo gets the picture of Jimmy and Janni, he holds the picture with his left hand and he grabs his goon with his right hand. When it cuts to a closeup of him holding the picture we can see that he is holding it with his right hand.

Revealing: In the beginning when young Janni and Jimmy are fighting, one of them hits the other with a book. The one that is being hit turns his head around half a second after he is hit.

Continuity: After Jill has taken her shoes off she leaves them on the floor. When Jimmy runs after her we can see the shoes has changed position.

Continuity: In the shot where Amanda Peet is trying to seduce Oz, she drops her shirt. We're supposed to think she is naked beneath that, but we see that she has a bandanna around her chest.
