Trivia

In one scene after Spider-Man has lost his powers, he catches a ride on an elevator. On one floor, a young man gets on and comments about Peter's "great Spidey costume". Peter says he made it himself, it itches, and rides up in the crotch, causing a strange look from the young man. The young man was Hal Sparks, who plays Michael Novotny on the US version of "Queer As Folk". Michael's a gay comic book store owner and diehard fan (and walking encyclopedia) of the whole superhero genre. See more...

Mistake Other: Sure Spider-Man has super human powers, but his costume doesn't (as we see as it rips and tears quite a lot through the movie) so how come the back of it is still intact and not even dirty after being dragged over the street by a train that's going at high speed?

Mistake Audio problem: Just before Aunt May does her hero speech she tells Peter that he 'Did a very brave thing, telling me, and I'm proud'. There is a pause between each clause of the sentence and the 'Telling me' line is obviously dubbed, the shot is from behind but the sound of the line is different.

Mistake Continuity: As Mary Jane is reunited with John Jameson after Spider-Man lowers her down from the crane, one shot shows tears along Spider-Man's suit along the left leg while he is crouching. However, in a later shot, he stands up to swing away and the tears are now running along his right leg.

Mistake Factual error: In the scene where Peter is saving the children from the burning building, there is no smoke from the fire, when there should be black smoke billowing out the windows. He wouldn't be able to just stand up and walk through the building. But in order for the scene to play out on camera, the area is smoke free. A fire in an apartment or office building will include combusting of large amounts of plastics (computers and so on). So unless there is nothing but alcohols in the building there will be immense amounts of smoke.

Mistake Continuity: In the elevator scene when Peter/Spider-man first loses his powers, we see a man standing outside the elevator holding a dog on a leash. However, after Spider-man delivers the line about the costume riding up on the crotch, we see the man use both hands to adjust his jacket, and the leash is nowhere to be found, nor is their any indication that the dog is on the elevator.

Mistake Continuity: When Peter is on the rooftop, just before he does his "I'm back" line, he begins to run. He runs quite some distance before it goes to slow motion, yet a few shots later during the slow motion, he is back to where he started running.

Mistake Continuity: When the car flies past Peter's head, we have a full view of the tire rim which means we are looking at the side of the car. But this view is only possible if the car were thrown in head-first or tail-first, which wasn't the case.

Mistake Continuity: As Peter is walking along the top of the building, about to do his "I'm back" jump, he is about three quarters of the way past a skylight on the roof. Then the shot changes, and he is just walking up to it.

Mistake Revealing: When Mary Jane is being pulled toward the tritium when Doc Ock has her, the shot is taken from her feet up to her head. If you look where her dress ends, you can just barely see that instead of having the regular open dress, it is switched with shorts of the same type so you can't see under her dress.

Mistake Audio problem: When Aunt May gives Peter his birthday money, before she says, "Can you believe that it's two years next month since he was taken?", we see her from the side, and the motion of her jaw shows that her lips are moving before she speaks. When she says, "Were I to face the one responsible.", there's another shot of her from the side, and as she continues, ".for what happened", her jaw doesn't move at all. In the same shot, when she says, "Oh, I don't know what I'd do", once again the motion of her jaw show that her lips are moving before she speaks.

Mistake Continuity: When Peter is being fired from his pizza place job, there is a clock behind him. While the clock is on Peter the second hand is near the 4. The shot then changes to the boss and then goes back to Peter about 10 seconds later, so the second hand should be on the 6 or the 7, but it is up at the 2.

Mistake Continuity: When Harry is held upside-down by Doc Ock, his tie is tacked to his shirt partway down (so it doesn't fly in his face). A couple seconds later, on the balcony, Harry's tie is not tacked.

Mistake Factual error: When Spider-Man is fighting with Doc Ock and Doc Ock throws Spider-Man through the overhead pedestrian bridge, Doc Ock throws Spider-man in the direction of travel of the train, and when passing through the bridge, Spider-Man doesn't touch anything. When Spider-Man comes out the other side, he is "behind" Doc Ock (in terms of the direction of train travel). This implies that Spider-Man has slowed down in the air - fair enough due to wind resistance - and so is traveling slower. However, Spider-Man then hits Doc Ock from behind, meaning he's now sped himself up in mid air. He doesn't use any webs.

Mistake Continuity: In the scene where Aunt May is outside her house, packing things into boxes, we see a close-up of her holding what appears to be a large black leather shoe at upper chest level. The next shot is a wide shot of the yard, and now she's holding it in a different position near waist level.

Mistake Continuity: While in the bank trying to get a loan, there is a desk with two chairs behind Peter and Aunt May. As Doc Ock throws the vault door in their direction and Peter kicks the two of them out of danger, there are no chairs at the desk behind them.

Mistake Continuity: At the end of the "I've changed" conversation with Mary Jane, the taxi is right next to her as she turns towards it (you can see its roof next to her face), yet in the very next shot she has to cross the street to get to it.

Mistake Other: This mistake can be seen in Swedish theaters: right in the end where Peter Parker says "Thank you, Mary Jane Watson" the Swedish subtitles say "Wilson" instead of "Watson".

Mistake Factual error: When Peter calls Mary Jane to apologize for missing her show, he puts in two coins and then dials seven digits. By the time New York City pay phones went from 25 to 50 cents, a caller was required to dial eleven digits for all calls.

Mistake Continuity: The spiderweb that Harry brushes aside is missing from two previous shots: from inside the secret lair looking out at Harry, and from the reverse shot looking into the lair.

Mistake Continuity: In the final conversation between Peter and Mary Jane at his doorway, the lighting on his face switches in every shot.
