The story that Edward Gracey gives to Sara about his grandfather loving Elizabeth so much that he killed himself after her death doesn't make sense. If that's true, then when and with whom did he manage to father a child who would produce his grandson? [Edward Gracey is telling the story as if he is still living. Given when the story takes place in the past and since he appears to be around Sara's age, Edward takes license and claims it was his grandfather when in fact it was him (Edward Gracey). This becomes apparent towards the end of the movie when he reveals all.]

When the family comes into the mansion, they're wet from running in the rain. Eddie Murphy's lapels are sort of rumpled and his wife's hair is wet. By the time they get to the dining room, they're dry and Eddie's suit looks like it's been pressed. See more...
Trivia
In homage: Two of the singing busts were modeled after Thurl Ravenscroft and Paul Frees. Thurl Ravenscroft (Better know as the voice of Tony the Tiger) can be heard singing lead for the song "Grim, Grinning Ghosts" on the Disneyland attraction "The Haunted Mansion" and the late Paul Frees provided the voice of the "Ghost Host" for the same attraction. Eddie said the ghost guy wasn't a ghost and the chicken they ate was making them have hallucinations. They didn't have any chicken. [They do eat dinner. At 19:32 you see the plates and bowls on the table are empty. At 20:38 Ramslie seats them. At 21:13 you see them being served. At 21:33 the scene cuts away from the inside of the dining room to outside to show the growing storm. This storm scene is inserted to indicate a break in events and a passage of time. We next see back inside the dining room and at 21:38 we see Mr. Gracie's plate which now has chicken on it (being a ghost, Mr. Gracie doesn't eat the chicken). At 21:45 you can see Jim Evers' plate and there are remnants of food on the plate. We just aren't shown them eating.]
When the Everses get into the mansion they say they are going to eat and sit down. Ramslie says the storm is worse and they go to their rooms without eating. [They do eat dinner. We just aren't shown them eating. At 19:32 you see the plates and bowls on the table are empty. At 20:38 Ramslie seats them. At 21:13 you see them being served. While they are being served Mr. Gracie is talking to Sara Evers. At 21:33 the scene cuts away from the inside of the dining room to outside to show the growing storm and we see lightening and hear thunder. This storm scene is inserted to indicate a break in events and a passage of time. We next see back inside the dining room and at 21:38 we see Mr. Gracie's plate which now has chicken on it (being a ghost, Mr. Gracie doesn't eat the chicken). Mr. Gracie is now talking to Jim Evers. At 21:45 you can see Jim Evers' plate and there are remnants of food on the plate. Shortly after Ramslie announces the storm prevents them from leaving, Mr. Gracie announces that Ramslie will lead them to their rooms and we then see them being lead to their room. So they did eat dinner, we just don't get to see it.]
When Michel opens the music box in his room, a "ghost ball" appears in the corner of the mirror. If you look closely, it is just a floating lamp. The filmmakers used the ball lamp during filming for a visual but did not edit the ball to look flowy. You can really see it after Michel yells to his sister. [Behind Michael is a dresser with a clear round globe lamp with a pedestal stand. If watch closely in the mirror, you see the ghost light move into view alongside the lamp's globe. After Michael yells to his sister and she comes into the room, Michael turns around and we see a view of both of them looking at the ghost ball. The globe lamp can be seen on the dresser, alongside the ghost ball.]
In the scene in which Mr. and Mrs. Evers are driving to the Haunted Mansion, Mrs. Evers is initially wearing a yellow suit. When she gets to the Haunted Mansion, she is in a pink suit. Also, the lapels of the suits are different. This is a minor costume mistake. [Mrs. Evers suit does not change. The apparent change in color has to do with lighting. At times it appears yellow, at other times it appears pink and at various other times it appears to be colors that are neither yellow or pink - it's all due to differed lighting.]
When Ramsley is leading Jim to the library, the candles in the background don't flicker. [Candles only flicker when an extremely light breeze is passing through them; these candles were in a completely sealed house, so there would be no breeze to disturb them and they would burn steadily as they are supposed to.]
When the Evers are in the mansion and Mr. Evers sticks his hand out to shake the one guys hand. He doesn't shake his hand because later you find out that he and his servants are ghost, and yet Ramsley can touch Mr. Evers when he shakes/chokes him. [I think he doesn't shake his hand to make Mr. Evers feel stupid as he didn't want him to come... after all, ghosts usually can choose to touch things or not (the dinner was prepared somehow, etc...), its pretty much like the movie Ghost.]
