Love Actually

Trivia: Rowan Atkinson was originally meant to be an 'angel of love' - he was meant to help all the movie's characters find their love (e.g. he helps Sam by distracting the airport employee). He was also meant to walk away at the end and fade away, but the writers thought this too complicated and decided to keep him as a simple shop assistant. DVD Commentary.

Trivia: Any viewers outside of Britain might not get the joke when Billy Mack isn't sure which one is Ant or Dec. They are very well known in the UK, and dominate Saturday night telly. The joke refers to the fact that even though they are popular, a lot of people don't know which one's which.

Trivia: Billy Bob Thornton agreed to appear in the movie without having seen the script. On the day of shooting he told director Richard Curtis that he was scared of Benjamin Disraeli's facial hair, and as such wouldn't be able to do the scene in Ten Downing Street because there was a picture of him on the wall. Curtis told him to keep his back to the picture throughout the scene, which he does, although you'll notice he looks quite nervous.

Trivia: Billy Mack, Sam's girlfriend Joanna and the friend who sings "All You Need Is Love" at the wedding, all sang the songs you hear in the movie themselves. The director thanks them for doing that in the booklet in the soundtrack.

Trivia: This is not a mistake as such, but in real life the DJ who introduces 'Jump' (where Hugh Grant dances through No. 10) is Jo Whiley, who has a Radio 1 show on weekdays from 10am till 1pm. At this point in the film, though, it is dark outside, so she is not broadcasting in her usual slot.

Ian Hudson

Trivia: Hugh Grant and Thomas Sangster are related. Hugh Grant's grandmother was Thomas' great grandmother's sister. DVD commentary.

Trivia: 'Pat the Housekeeper' who is introduced in the first scene in 10 Downing St is played by the director's mother-in-law. DVD Commentary.

Trivia: The girl who sings at the end of the school play sang so beautifully, the audio dept had to add breaths as deliberate mistakes to her singing. This was so the audience would believe it was her actually singing. On DVD commentary.

Trivia: The real Christmas No. 1 in the UK in 2003 was Gary Jules' downbeat cover of the Tears for Fears hit "Mad World" from the film "Donnie Darko" (2001).

Continuity mistake: After Sarah has called at Harry's office, Harry prepares to open his office door to see her out. The camera cuts back to Sarah for a moment, then back to the camera angle on Harry as she walks to the door. In that short space of time, the sliding cupboard doors have changed their configuration, and the blinds in the upper left of the frame have partially closed. (00:18:45)

Karen: Tell me, what would you do in my position?
Harry: What position is that?
Karen: Imagine your husband bought a gold necklace and come Christmas gave it to somebody else...
Harry: Oh, Karen...
Karen: Would you wait around to find out if it's just a necklace, or if it's sex and a necklace, or if worst of all it's a necklace and love? Would you stay, knowing life would always be a little bit worse? Or would you cut and run?
Harry: Oh, God. I am so in the wrong. The classic fool.
Karen: Yes, but you've also made a fool out of me, and you've made the life I lead foolish too.

Question: Why are Girls Aloud credited with being on the soundtrack, when that isn't their version of "Jump" which the Prime Minister listens to?

Josman

Chosen answer: Irrelevant when it comes to soundtracks, Girls Aloud released a version of Jump to coincide with the movie's release and the video for the song featured scenes from the movie, hence its inclusion.
