Factual error: In the scene right after pinback shoots the beach-ball alien, we see the Dark Star space craft cruising past a planet with a sun in the background. You can see a reflection on the planet which is coming from the space craft. I'm sorry, but usually ships in space are not large enough to reflect off a planet, especially to the degree this one does. (00:48:20)

Revealing mistake: When Pinback is hanging from the lift, just before he decides to undo the bolts, you can see a piece of wood supporting his back. (00:43:00)

Revealing mistake: In the main control room / flight deck, the illuminated buttons are clearly top-down plastic ice trays.

Continuity mistake: When the alien attacks Pinback, he drops his broom in the middle of the room. There is then an overhead shot which shows it back in the corner. (00:29:30)

Revealing mistake: When Talby is mending the communications laser, in one shot the laser beams are not there. The sound effect is audible and there are two white strings visible where the laser should be. (01:03:00)

Other mistake: Lt. Dolittle has a plastic name tag on his collar that says "Doolittle." But on his coveralls the name tape says "Dooltte." (00:12:30)

Bomb#20: In the beginning, there was darkness. And the darkness was without form, and void.
Boiler: What the hell is he talking about?
Bomb#20: And in addition to the darkness there was also me. And I moved upon the face of the darkness. And I saw that I was alone. Let there be light.

Trivia: When Doolittle is floating through space after the explosion, a piece of debris which floats by him is marked "toilet tank thx 138" - a reference to George Lucas' first film. (01:20:40)

Question: Not many people have even seen this classic, but i'll give it a go. On the DVD, when the crew are in the food store/bedroom, you can see that there are several pin-ups of girls on the wall behind them which have been blurred out. I can't see why the censors would be so fastitious about something which is hard to notice, let alone offend anyone - does anyone have any idea why they might do such a thing?

Answer: It was done to get the film a 'G' / 'U' rating.
