Revealing: After Will slams the gold bowl down over the pirate's head, this pirate spends time trying to pry the bowl off his head with great difficulty. When Jacoby tosses the bomb, Will dives, then lands and seen in the background is the gold bowl pirate. The bowl actually starts to FALL OFF his head, so the actor reaches up with his left hand to keep it on his head for the shot. However after Elizabeth asks, "Whose side is Jack on?" the pirate is very pleased with himself when he is finally able to pry the bowl off, just before Elizabeth whacks him.
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003) - 139 minor mistakes
Directed by Gore Verbinski, starring Jack Davenport, Johnny Depp, Keira Knightley, Mackenzie Crook, Geoffrey Rush, Orlando Bloom, Jonathan Pryce (add more)
Please note: The sliding down the rope scene is perfectly possible - the link between Johnny Depp's handcuffs is long enough that he can fold it in half and sling the loop over the rope. Also Will's father - yes, he was still alive, stuck under the sea for 10 years attached to a cannon (or crushed to pieces - they comment on "the crushing black depths"). Not a mistake though. Most importantly, JACK ISN'T CURSED FOR THE WHOLE FILM. He's only cursed when he takes a medallion out of the chest right at the end.
Revealing: After skewering the three skeletal pirates, Will places the lit bomb inside of Jacoby. In the close-up Will places the bomb through Jacoby's ribs, right under his beard and Jacoby's leather strap and buckle are not seen. Yet in the next shot as Will removes his hand, the strap and buckle are slung across Jacoby's ribs near his beard. It should have been seen in the close-up.
Continuity: Will runs down the stairs at the prison and says, "You! Sparrow!" and Jack responds, "Aye." In the following shots Jack's hair with red ties and the white shirt string, both on his left side, change position, arrangement, or even existence in the wide shots, and close-ups while the two talk. Earlier, after Jack saves drowning Elizabeth, the position of the red scarf around his head differs between shots - note the beads over his eyes. As a matter of fact, the positions of his red scarf ends, strings of beads, bone, etc., in Jack's hair, ALL change in consecutive shots many times throughout the film, from the moment he is first seen on the Jolly Mon, to the moment he makes his dramatic exit!!
Continuity: In Governor Swann's home, Elizabeth, Pintel and Ragetti are at the bottom of the stairs and in this first shot a third pirate comes in the back doors with a handful of looted riches. They watch as a cannonball crashes through the front window, and in the next shot it slams into him and propels him back out the closed doors. The booty in his hands is different in both shots.
Continuity: When Jack first walks into the blacksmith shop, standing at the doorway he looks around. The grindstone is seen in the distance and there is NO sword leaning on it. Then Will says, "You threatened Miss Swann," and in the following few shots there IS a sword leaning on the grindstone. After Jack says, "You need to find yourself a girl mate," he reaches overhead, pulls out a mallet and Will ducks. The grindstone is seen and again there is NO sword leaning on the grindstone. Neither Jack nor Will touched the grindstone.
Continuity: At Jack's hanging, there is a shot of Mr. Cotton's parrot landing on the flag post, that Mullroy is holding. In this shot, there is a gruff looking man and a woman with her hand on her hip, standing there. Those two particular people are in the middle of the crowd near Will, when Will first walks through the crowd, to stand in front of the scaffolding.
Continuity: Barbossa finds out the truth about Elizabeth, he hits her and she falls to the bottom of the treasure heap where she lies unconscious. Then Will comes up out of the water to rescue a still unconscious Elizabeth. Her hair is different in both shots, as well as the position of the dress under her face, the pearls, the various objects lying on the ground all around her, and the medallion's chain as well.
Continuity: Just as Will jumps on the rail of the Pearl with the gun, in the back shot, his right hand holding onto the rope is shoulder level and wind is blowing his hair towards his face. In the next few front shots, his right hand holds the rope between sternum and waist level and his hair is not blowing at all. Then in the next back shot, once again his hand is at shoulder level on the rope, and the wind is blowing his hair towards his face.
Continuity: In the blacksmith's shop, on the two stationary wood posts near the donkey, that have the assortment of swords hanging, the direction of some of the sword handles change in some shots. Seen in the background of some shots or when Will grabs for a sword. One example is, when Jack looks at the red hot poker after poking the donkey and when Will comes in, jumps down the step, then stops the donkey.
Revealing: On their way to Isla de Muerta aboard Interceptor, Will and Gibbs discuss Jack and his history. Seen to the left of Gibbs are some of the crew looking out while standing at the ship's rail. It is obvious in some of these shots that the background is edited, the crew have the distinguishable blue screen ring around their bodies.
Continuity: When Jack, and later Will, approach Mr. Brown we see how far apart the tables in front and to the left of Mr. Brown are. Jack breaks the chain, he hears Will and the table behind him is in line with the back door. When Jack pulls the sword out of Will's hand and tosses it, in the shot of Will the table is much closer to Mr. Brown now. After Jack says, "You need to find yourself a girl, mate" and tosses the mallet at Will, in the wide shot behind Will, we see just how close together the two tables are now. The side table is angled more towards him too. This has nothing to do with camera angles.
Continuity: As Will and Jack duel, the vertical wood beam, near the cart and stone steps, is seen in many shots. In several shots the rope secured to it is either tied differently to the beam or is not even there. 1st example, when Will says, "You're the one they're hunting," and 2nd example, the wide shot before Jack says, "You know what you're doing, I'll give you that," the rope is tied differently. After Jack says, "You need to find yourself a girl, mate," but just before Jack tosses the mallet at Jack, forcing him to duck, there is no rope. Then, when they duel on the cart, in some close-ups the rope is seen, but in some wide shots the rope isn't there.
Revealing: Jack slips aboard Interceptor and Murtogg and Mullroy run aboard and confront him. In Jack's close-up he begins to say, "Well then, I confess." The next shot is of Murtogg and Mullroy, while Jack continues to say, "It is my intention," and as he says, "to commandeer one of these ships..." there is a shot from behind Mullroy's right shoulder. As Jack speaks, Mullroy turns his head to the right and quickly glances peripherally to his side at the camera, so as not to bump into the steadicam at his elbow. Angus is not looking at anything else.
Continuity: Will stands on the Pearl's rail holding a gun under his chin, there are wide shots of everyone on deck, and close-ups of Jack, Elizabeth and Barbossa. The pirates and their captives differ between the close-ups and wide shots, in their appearance, position, and the way the pirates hold their weapons. Two examples: Will says, "And the crew. The crew are not to be harmed," in the close-ups Jacoby is right behind Jack, but in the wide shots he is much further away from Jack. Also in Barbossa's close-ups Pintel stands to the right of Cotton, but in the wide shots Pintel stands to Cotton's left. This type of occurrence happens throughout all of these shots.
Continuity: Will goes to the fort and pleads with Norrington to find and save Elizabeth. On the table are two distinct feather quills. They're in different positions in the wide shot and in the close-up when Will slams the axe down on the map. Also, in that wide shot, there is a small bottle in front of the quill holder, whereas in the close-up, the small bottle isn't there.
Continuity: In the brig aboard the Pearl, Jack sees Gibbs' flask in the pooled water around him. He reaches for it, holds it upside down to his mouth to drink from. There are two successive shots of him holding it to his mouth and then moving it away. The left sleeve leaning on his knee and the position of the long striped cloth that he wears around his waist differs in both shots. Also, the item on the floor to his left is in a different position in both shots.
