Continuity: As Jack and Will duel, the amount of closed buttons on Will's vest changes. After Jack says, "And now you have no weapon," three buttons are closed. When Jack says, "You need to find yourself a girl mate," four buttons are closed. Then up on the beams, in one of the first shots, there are three buttons closed. Coming off the beams, hanging upside down, four buttons are closed again!
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003) - 139 minor mistakes
Directed by Gore Verbinski, starring Jack Davenport, Johnny Depp, Keira Knightley, Mackenzie Crook, Geoffrey Rush, Orlando Bloom, Jonathan Pryce (add more)
Please note: The sliding down the rope scene is perfectly possible - the link between Johnny Depp's handcuffs is long enough that he can fold it in half and sling the loop over the rope. Also Will's father - yes, he was still alive, stuck under the sea for 10 years attached to a cannon (or crushed to pieces - they comment on "the crushing black depths"). Not a mistake though. Most importantly, JACK ISN'T CURSED FOR THE WHOLE FILM. He's only cursed when he takes a medallion out of the chest right at the end.
Continuity: Aboard the Black Pearl, just as the boat is released to swing out towards skeletal Grapple and Mallet, a rope is seen attached to the left hanging apparatus and that rope is draped across three of the seats. In the next shot, after their bones are knocked overboard, the rope in the boat is not over any of the seats but coiled up near the hanging apparatus.
Continuity: Aboard Interceptor, the boom slams into Will and takes him out over the water. In the close-up shot of Will hanging there, the rope lines that are between Will's arms on the boom are not in the close-up shot of the boom, before it hit Will. Just the line to his left, can be seen in the boom shot.
Continuity: At Isla de Muerta, whilst floating offshore in the rowboat, when Jack moves forward to sit beside Norrington and discuss the plan, Mullroy sits behind Jack. In Murtogg and Mullroy's close-ups the silver medallion on Mullroy's white strap is centered properly at his chest. However, in other shots that silver medallion is near his waist.
Continuity: Aboard the Pearl (before Elizabeth's blood ritual), in the exterior shot Elizabeth peers out the window which slants away from her right side - making it the right window of the port side, as she faces it. However, in the next interior shot she actually sits in front of the port side's left window, which slants away from her left side.
Continuity: On the docks, when Norrington exposes Jack's scar and tattoo on his right arm, he says, "Well, well, Jack Sparrow, isn't it?" and in the wide shot Murtogg holds the middle part of his gun. In the close-up when Murtogg says, "He said he'd come to commandeer one," he holds it near the bayonet, yet in the next wide shot he holds it in the middle again.
Continuity: While Jack is inspecting the crew on the dock at Tortuga the sun shines from different directions in some shots. In some shots the crew's back is in shadow and in others their right side is in shadow. Also seen with the shadow of the goods in front of them, behind them, and to the left of Anamaria. This scene was shot during the course of a day.
Continuity: Jack and Will duel on the cart and in a side shot, the FIRST time Will crosses his two swords in front of him below his waist, the blade in his left hand is on top of the blade in his right hand, then in the following front shot, the blade in his right hand is now on top of the blade in his left hand.
Continuity: Aboard Interceptor, when Jack causes the boom to slam into Will, in that wide shot the belaying pin on the rail across from Will is seen. When Jack says, "But I can't bring this ship into Tortuga all by me onesy, savvy?" behind him to his left, the belaying pin is seen again. The lines hanging from that belaying pin differs in both shots.
Continuity: After the cutting of Elizabeth's hand, the knife's blade is shown six times. 1st- a wide shot from behind, the blade has no blood on it. 2nd- a close-up, as Elizabeth lets go of the medallion. 3rd- a front shot, as Barbossa lets go of her hand. 4th- when Barbossa puts the gun back into his belt. 5th- when he holds the blade up to his face, we see both sides. 6th- when he grabs the medallion out of the chest. In each of these shots the blood on the blade differs in amount and/or position on either side. This has nothing to do with the 'dripping' of the blood down the blade.
Continuity: When Jack is in the Fort Prison, he's trying to get the dog to bring him the keys. When he says, "Good boy. Come get the bone," the handle sticking out of the pail on the floor is leaning away from the cell. When the dog comes closer, and Jack says, "That's it, doggy," the handle in the pail is facing towards the cell door.
Continuity: When the Black Pearl and the Interceptor fire their cannons, a fork's prongs dig into the iris of Ragetti's wooden eye. Pintel then removes the fork with the wooden eye, but the fork's prongs are now lodged just beside the iris of the eye - not to be confused with swirls in that eye; and his grip of the fork differs between shots.
Continuity: Aboard the Black Pearl while watching Interceptor explode, Elizabeth runs over to Barbossa and yells, "You've got to stop it." While Barbossa holds Elizabeth, in the first shot behind her, the left shoulder of her burgundy dress is on her shoulder. In the next front close-up shot, her dress is off her left shoulder, then in the next shot behind her, her dress is on her shoulder again.
Continuity: Jack hides behind a statue outside the blacksmith shop. The soldiers run past a woman and her vegetable cart whose wheels are closest to the blacksmith shop. After Jack removes his sword, he looks around the courtyard. The cart's legs are now closest to the blacksmith shop and the wheels are now at the other end, the complete opposite of how the cart was positioned in the first shot.
Revealing: After Will slams the gold bowl down over the pirate's head, this pirate spends time trying to pry the bowl off his head with great difficulty. When Jacoby tosses the bomb, Will dives, then lands and seen in the background is the gold bowl pirate. The bowl actually starts to FALL OFF his head, so the actor reaches up with his left hand to keep it on his head for the shot. However after Elizabeth asks, "Whose side is Jack on?" the pirate is very pleased with himself when he is finally able to pry the bowl off, just before Elizabeth whacks him.
